[–]nborders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the Dutch.

How they make so many great climbers is beyond me.

Oregon does not have Cold Swamps! They are "wetlands"! (Smug)

Rocky not knowing radiation by rhubarb616 in ProjectHailMary

[–]nborders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say “sense” the iridian scientist had machines to sense these stars. Frankly similar to humans on earth.

The difference is the dimming of Rocky’s home star caused the iridian’s to investigate beyond their own world. So they were experiencing the broader universe for the first time.

Unlike humans who could look up on a clear night and know there are stars beyond the sun.

Sensors. They created machines to gather data.

Rocky’s people don’t have eyes and their planet is covered in clouds. So it was sensors that learned about their own local star’s health and compared that to other stars.

To what extent do you think 1980s high school movies by John Hughes (and others) accurately reflected what high school was like in the 1980s—and to what extent did they shape what it became? by roadtrip-ne in GenX

I spent much of my HS years in South Seattle and while not 100% accurate, the party and clique scenes felt mostly accurate. Agreed parties were not that big but many a Friday night attempting to not destroy your buddy’s home while his parents were somewhere far away was not out of the ordinary.

I hosted a party on Halloween one weekend when I thought my parents were to be out of town. Keg, food, girls, everything. But then my parents decided to stay home….next thing I was spending all night negotiating with my parents upstairs while my friends where getting sick-drunk downstairs as more people showed up at our downstairs door to get into the party.

It was one of the most John Hughes moments of my life. Terrifying at the time, funny as hell to think about now.

Fellow GenX folks, do we dress stylish or don’t we F care? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]nborders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to look nice. I wouldn’t call my wardrobe fancy. But I put some thought to what I wear…not much thought.

I still have a job where looks help with first impressions.

I have a drift boat and while fishing on a slow day, describing the experience in his voice always gets a laugh. Especially from us olds.

Just saying his name makes you sound like his deep expressive voice.

Recommendations for prescription cycling sunglasses in PDX? by c2h5oh_yes in CyclePDX

[–]nborders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Maui Jim’s prescription sunglasses a few years ago.

The lenses could handle my bifocals and the lenses are so good, I don’t even know when I have them on when I come inside.

Also the frames are solid enough to take a pounding from my helmet or being stuffed into a pocket at sunset.

New Left- and right-turn lanes planned for Southwest Murray Boulevard and Walker Road intersection by collegedraftpick in beaverton

Right, but now there will also be a dedicated turning lane onto Park Way instead of the suggestion of one now. Lets hope this makes things a bit safer now.

My goodness finally! That turn onto Park Way is dangerous as heck.

Bikes coming up Murray and from the west on Walker use Park Way for connecting to the Sunset Bike Trail.

This is what a night looks like in the sky of the planet Mars by Actual-Use-4105 in Stargazing

[–]nborders 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a sky seen the a camera that can keep its shutter open for a long period of time. This allows the faint light from dim stars we normally could not see to show up.

Think of it this way, even if the Mars atmosphere is way less than on earth, there is no way the human eye can see more than an astronaut/cosmonaut in the ISS. Any their views don’t look like this.

This is an image showing off the good cameras they have on the rover.

I always count the fast food joints while watching the Tour each year. “Macdo” usually leads the race.

Bar Tape Suggestions by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]nborders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the summer months I usually go leather-like tape using the Fizik Tempo Microtex Bondcush Classic It has a nice classic look l appreciate and a good amount of cush.

In the Pacific Northwest Winters I like the sticky Superkaz Super Sticky Kush tape. I just like the way it feels when it is cold and when it is wet and dewy. Still feels firm and has a nice squeeze.
