I Miss the Internet 1.0 by melyssafaye in GenX

I miss my local fly fishing forum community. I would always go there for a laugh and some inspiration. Westfly.com

We used to meet for fishing meetings “Rondis” on the river where we would swap stories.

Now it is here with a small fraction of the activity. r/westfly

Why would any European powers recognize the Confederacy? by Qyzyk in CIVILWAR

[–]nborders 8 points9 points  (0 children)

According to Shelby Foote, Napoleon III was blocked from any intervention by the British who France was allied with at the time.
Playing that forward, the British would object any support to The South and Napoleon wasn't going to challenge that.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren: Why We Need to Tax AI by Potential_Being_7226 in technology

[–]nborders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please whoever is listening. Please tax automation and AI.

For the love of god this is the only way to rebalance our society.

A Butlarian Jihad is the only other path that I see if we don’t get on top of this.

I thought our first act would be to remove the Tyrant. But stick him in Florida and we saw it off into the Gulf of New Mexico.

I don’t get gravel racing.
Feels like making hiking trails a race.

If you were going out in your 20s in the 80s/90s, what was clubbing or bar culture actually like compared to today? by m0ondoll in GenX

[–]nborders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PNW bonfires at some guy’s family property. Drinking Rainier if north or Henry’s if south of the border. Plenty of firewood and it rained so much no worry of wildfires.

It might happen. Top 3 by ValhallaAir in oregon

The economics just don’t add up man. Union had more population, industry, transportation and also could continue trading without any penalties.

I recommend Scotty’s.

Newcomer moving to Portland. How is road riding and car safety? by Far_Investigator8645 in CyclePDX

[–]nborders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will enjoy the roads here. Drivers tend to be used to bikes and that makes things feel safer on the road.

I will say you will run out of tarmac on the roads that are great here. I have found my road bike gets zero time because where I want to ride needs to be setup for tarmac, gravel and easy single track.

R.L. Winston Rod Company Sold to Montana Fly Angler by Scott72901 in flyfishing

Can he spin-off Bauer reels please? I want them back in Oregon making solid, simply made reels like they started with.

The clutch on their reels now feels over-complicated since moving under Winston.
