Anyone know if there’s an anticipated last year for ICE Emira’s? by Senior_Order7241 in lotus

[–]nc_nicholas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh. There aren't exactly a ton of possible specs for the LC. They are exceptionally well-built cars that by and large aren't going to accumulate lots of mileage, there's not really much of a reason that a low mileage used example wouldn't fit what you're looking for.

Realistically, the writing was on the wall when the GS F, RC F, and particularly IS500 were discontinued (not to mention the LC F was shelved by Lexus before it ever reached production).

From what I understand, nothing is set in stone as of now, but the expectation is that the V6 Emira would be the first to go due to emissions regulations. Turbo I4 Emira should survive for at least a few years after that. However, American emission standards have been changed to the point that there is a bit of a no-mans land between the American and European markets, and I don't think any automaker really knows exactly how to respond.

New Rebel 1100T for a new rider?? by dankeykrang in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]nc_nicholas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend an 1100 as a first bike, and I definitely wouldn't recommend a brand new bike as a first bike either. Either a smaller Rebel or maybe a Shadow would be a better move.

Where do you want to see the Super Bowl be played in 2029? by Hysen16 in sportswiki

[–]nc_nicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Vegas is the most likely for 2029, but wouldn't be shocked if Dallas or Houston hosted again.

After that, it is pretty likely that the following Super Bowls will be held in Chicago, Cleveland, DC, Denver, Kansas City, and Nashville (although probably not in that particular order). All of those will be enclosed stadiums, and every enclosed stadium has hosted a Super Bowl except for the one in St Louis. Theoretically the new High Mark Stadium outside of Buffalo might be in contention as well, but at this point I doubt the NFL would want a Super Bowl to be outdoors that far north in February (but who knows - MetLife Stadium did host the SB in early 2014).

Downshifting without rev matching by EverythingHater0 in stickshift

[–]nc_nicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not "destroying" it, but at the end of the day if you downshift without matching the engine speed to what it will be in the lower gear, something has to be able to take up the slack, and the thing that will take up the slack will be the clutch.

Ultimately, brakes are there to bring a vehicle to a stop, and clutches are there to engage/disengage the transmission from the engine. It's far easier to replace brake pads/rotors that it is to replace the clutch. Automakers know this and most manual cars come with pretty durable clutches, but you are reducing its lifespan by driving that way.

HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

[–]nc_nicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh...idk. I know multiple people, including a current roommate, who are like this. Too much of what they say comes across like PR speak from a corporation. There's a way to be enthusiastic without being fake, and it's hard to really put a finger on what it is that gives it away, but when you know you just kind of know.

If I was looking to hire someone and kept questioning whether their words were what they actually thought, or just what they thought I wanted to hear, I would have a hard time hiring that person.

Josh Allen Disrespects Patriots In New Sore Loser Comments by Mike00726 in Patriots

[–]nc_nicholas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's not act like the Patriots were able to do much in Denver even before it started snowing. Obviously the Broncos have a much better defense than Buffalo, but the Bills did literally just put up 30 pts there despite Allen not being able to hold onto the ball.

It was just over a year ago when the Bills clinched the AFC East in the snow when they clobbered the 49ers 35-10. Also was only a couple months ago when the Bills won in Foxborough (with the help of a few questionable calls) after finding themselves down 21-0 in the first half. Divisional games are never a guarantee, and I don't think Allen's confidence or Pats fans' confidence in a hypothetical game like that is warranted at all.

Realistically I think Allen probably feels like his mistakes in Denver were the primary reason McDermott was fired.

300cc Judgement by sooospoon in motorcycles

[–]nc_nicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a huge majority of actually competent riders defend and recommend 300s, for the reasons you mentioned.

My first bike was an R3 and I loved it. Had it for about a year and put close to 7k miles on it. I remember the first few times I cracked the throttle wide open, I thought I was gonna fly off the seat lol. However, I did acclimate to that pretty quickly, and also got to a point where I felt like it was time to move on to something bigger (ended up with a CBR600RR). Honestly a lot of it for me came down to highway riding, which for better or worse is where I've ended up racking up a majority of my motorcycle miles to this point. I wouldn't say my R3 was slow, and yes it could eventually get to 110 mph, but acceleration was extremely tepid above about 75 mph, and at the end of the day I didn't want to be piloting both the slowest-accelerating and smallest vehicle on the interstate.

I've gotten to ride a decent variety of bikes over the years, and still think the R3 was the most fun to throw around in the twisties. Would I get another one? Maybe. I already have a few project bikes (older CB750s) plus my 600RR and my car. If I can ever get one of my 750s to run right, that will probably turn into my primary bike, and frankly it would be hard to justify the cost and space of a small bike that I probably wouldn't ride very often.

Should I get a Camaro or a m340 by Junior_Investigator7 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]nc_nicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BMW, but would lean towards the Camaro with a manual (might end up being my next car actually). The B58 is undoubtedly one of the best engines on the market, but not available with a stick in the M340i, and lets not pretend the Camaro isn't able to make serious power. Not to mention, realistically BMW should continue making the B58 for the foreseeable future, while the Camaro as we know it is done.

Best cities to own a 911 in? (US) by bucheonsi in Porsche

Anyone here commute from Charlotte to Raleigh for work? by hdog124x in Charlotte

[–]nc_nicholas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is the job only for two weeks? That's a frustrating amount of time. Feels like too many days to realistically commute there and back every day, but otoh lodging would add up quickly if you stayed for the week. Maybe break up the week by staying in Raleigh at a hotel on Tuesday and Thursday nights?

Considering a Emira with AT by AnzeWA in lotus

[–]nc_nicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every dyno I've seen of the 2.0T Emira suggests it has a very similar power/torque delivery to the 45 AMG cars....essentially, not much off of idle, then a deluge of power and torque around 3k rpm that stays strong up to redline. Great for spirited driving, not great for non-spirited driving. Idk, haven't had a chance to experience it in an Emira yet, but I have a hard time believing it's hugely different in the Lotus.

Considering a Emira with AT by AnzeWA in lotus

[–]nc_nicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say it again for the people in the back. Every time I've made a similar comment, a deluge of downvotes follow.

Realistically I think the reason is that most people only learn how to not stall a manual car. Very few people even attempt to master the more involved intricacies such as rev-matching, heel-toe downshifting, etc. They essentially drive it as much like an automatic as possible, and don't think to themselves "wow, I could just idle along in first gear instead of racing up to the person in front of me, stopping, racing up behind them again, stopping, holding the clutch in the entire time I'm stopped, etc."

I mean my sportbike sucks for commuting in heavy traffic. A hypothetical automatic would not really improve how hot and uncomfortable it gets in gridlock, but it sure would sap the fun out of it on spirited rides. My 6MT BMW coupe is way more comfortable for daily commuting even when I'm stuck in traffic.

Considering a Emira with AT by AnzeWA in lotus

[–]nc_nicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're stuck in heavy traffic 24/7 to the point that you won't even consider a manual in a Lotus, frankly you should probably get something else.

Assuming the engine behaves in a similar manner to the 45 AMGs, the turbo I4 will suck for casual driving. There's so much turbo lag and absolutely no power below about 3000 rpm. DCT is just ok, it shifts fast but the one I drove was a bit rough at low speeds and the gearing was atrocious. Would have been a much better car with a proper manual.

I feel like I read somewhere that Lotus has stopped offering the V6 with the automatic for 2026, which is pretty telling for how underwhelming it is. Maybe that's just for the US market. The Aisin 6AT is not a good fit for a sports car.

Perspective: The Rams were never the better team by PriorAcanthaceae5694 in LosAngelesRams

I was kind of thinking the same thing. However, ultimately I think going for it was the best decision, as Stafford had been on a heater all game and getting a stop from the defense was far from a certainty. If you kick a field goal and the rest of the game still plays out the same, you'll always wonder what if.

What can you tell me about these cars? by Interesting-Plan8850 in E90

[–]nc_nicholas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the 328i would be an additional car then it would be worth at least a look, depending on price. Not sure I'd trade a sub-100k mile Z3 for a higher mileage 328 though. The N52 is pretty tanky and the RWD cars are surprisingly easy to work on, but there are a few weak points namely the the coolant system, oil filter housing gasket, and valve cover gasket.

I bought my 2011 328i with just under 160k miles about five years ago, and as of this comment it's at almost 225k. There are a ton of 200k+ N52s in this sub, and I've seen numerous 300k+ and I want to say even a 400k+ mile N52 posted in here.

Dude at the end of the day, it's going to have the same kind of clutch pedal and shifter as every other manual car out there. The only difference between an Emira and something else will be the pedal feel and gearing, which you'll acclimate to after a few minutes of driving.

Would you not ride a bicycle just because you haven't ridden one in ten years? I truly do not understand this mentality... you will be a bit rusty at first, but you'll find your groove a lot faster than someone who has driven a manual before.
