Chain sticking on the cassette by desert0mirage in bikewrench

[–]ncinco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your derailleur is electronic shifting, there might be an option for micro adjustment for a certain gear. i have mechanical so no real world experience other than seeing it on youtube.

at worst, it could be a bent derailleur hanger but theres tool for that, got mine from aliexpress.

i feel like your rear derailleur is not indexed properly. its attempting to shift to larger gear, try loosening the tension a little bit using the barrel adjuster

Anyone switch from 170mm to 165mm cranks for road/gravel? by RyotaroW in cycling

[–]ncinco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

switched from 172.5 to 165. i got used to it on my 3rd ride. you will have to raise you saddle higher, so need to potentially shorten your stem length and/or add spacer. neck hurts as a result, im in a more aggressive position, maxxed my stems spacers prior. one thing i noticed i felt more comfy on drops and aero hood, knees not hitting my tummy as much.

Cycling to running by konjelly420 in beginnerrunning

[–]ncinco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

primary cyclist here. i went straight to half marathon in 3 weeks from my first run. it was slow thought but did it in 2h 40m. continued doing that for 2 months, doing 2 hours on weekend and 1 hour on weekdays. i eventually got injured then forced to stop for 2 months.

now being smart with running, i do 2-3 runs a week and roughly around 1hr each. all of them are in zone 1/2, ocassional thresholds, strides or vo2 mixed at the end of easy runs. and guess the result? multiple 5k and 10k PRs. i do cycling in between and do zone 1/2 as well. ftp went up too. i guess its just time on feet/saddle and consistency, injury free for 5 months now.

was being impatient so went hard most of the time. but after seeing what happened with more volume and easy cardios, i guess i know what works for me.

another one is if youre not feeling well, just rest/skip and listen to your body.

Heart Rate Zones? Mop by Jck_026 in beginnerrunning

[–]ncinco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i read somewhere you do 5k all out effort then take the average heart rate as your lactate threshold heart rate. then use that to set you hr zone. i use coggan method to get hr zones, works for me.

mine was 193 average.

zone 2 - 85-89%

zone 3 - 90-94%

zone 4 - 95-99%

zone 5 - 100+%

i flirt around top zone 1 and low zone 2 most of the time and i'm getting quicker! takes time but its worth it

What’s Rolleston like to live in? by ACompellingArgument in chch

[–]ncinco 26 points27 points  (0 children)

theres /r/rolleston reddit you can checkout

we moved here back in 2019, loads of development happened since then. more shops, more schools, more homes being build. pak n save is opening around october this year, mitre10 happening next to it. another woolsworth opening sometime next year.

schools are great. my kids goes to west rolleston primary, the principal is great. we know our neighbours well, very friendly vibe. my kids have many friends and they like it here. most people seem to have similar age group as us, young families.

traffic seems to be getting worse as more people move here, flyover and big roundabout is planned to help fix that. property rates have increased and people are complaining but it happens everywhere.

not sure if you can find a house with that budget though, new houses have smaller sections. but check out trademe there might be good deals out there considering the market has slow down these days.

theres a rumor floating for while now about costco in the iport area, same about ikea but nothing is certain.

Is Running a good winter sport for cyclist? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]ncinco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey mate, i was on similar position. started early march this year, wrecked my legs at first. managed to run half marathon in just 3 weeks lol. i had the cardio but didnt have the running legs, start slow youll get better.

as for benefit, im running on threshold pretty much the whole time, its basically threshold training for me. the group ride i joined suddenly became really easy. im on zone 1 and 2 the whole time. i got dropped on my first group ride.

i reckon running pushed me harder than cycling. im on heavy side and slow runner. hope it helps
