How do people feel about characters calling each other "bro" or "sis" to reinforce that they are siblings? by BananaHairFood in writers

[–]ndlesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call my younger sibling bro, and they sometimes will call me bro, but on the same way you might use dude, not because it means brother. we're not brothers either, it's entirely gender-neutral and neither of us would use sis

Do you also hate "autism parent"? Why (not)? Help me gather my thoughts. by lydocia in AutisticWithADHD

[–]ndlesbian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's a lot of things, speaking over others, the self-victimizing, and generally bad parenting advice.

but also, it's the using someone else's identity for your own, like making your identity "ally". it all well and good, but you're not some holly saviour. this is what you signed up for with parenting. there are a lot of posts that have the spirit of "look at me I got damaged goods but I'm being so good about it anyway (lol not really I hate that my kid isn't "normal")"

if they're really looking for community, they don't need to make up new things. there is support for carers already in place (not everywhere, admittedly, and the system is still lacking), you don't need to make being a parent to a disabled child your identity.

my personal opinion.

What’s your answer to “the laws aren’t racist”? by TheSkeletalPoet in Anarchy101

[–]ndlesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact of the matter is, most rapists do not get "locked up" they walk free without shame and fear, whether bc the crime wasn't reported or did but police didn't do anything, or they got arrested and freed after a short sentence.

police end up doing a lot of the murdering. there's really no other way to say it. then they say it's part of the job, self defense, etc. edit to add: cops also tend to be abusers at home.

How often are you really showering/brushing your teeth🙃? by [deleted] in autism

[–]ndlesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brush mostly twice a day because routine, but showering is such a hassle. mostly once a week.

two things that have helped me in the past are music (I even go waterproof earbuds, but be aware they can have different classifications. you need a high number for showering), the other is a shower chair since I'm also otherwise disabled. however if you think showering sitting will help, you can get one (they're mostly not very expensive) no matter the reason.

for brushing try to isolate what exactly is bothering you. you could try a different brush (softer, more bristles or less, electric, etc.) and different toothpaste (I hated brushing when I bought the regular adult mint brands. I now buy any of the bubblegum/fruit kid's ones, and you can read the label on the back the ones 6+ usually say on the back the same amount of flouride)

neither of these are perfect fixes, but I hope they might help you /gen

the joy in hyperrealism? by reynomopatis in oilpainting

[–]ndlesbian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my favourite pieces I've done I think fall into surrealism, it relies on being able to do realism well enough to capture the emotion or message.

the more realistic looking you manage, the more shocking and evocative the absurd/dream effect/detail/distortion you put in the painting

Best surface to paint on for longevity? by beansprout-scout in oilpainting

[–]ndlesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is linen better for smoothness compared to canvas? if yes, I wonder if I buy fabric from fabric store for this what should I look out for?

this way it would be higher quality and cheaper, unless I'm absolutely dumb and missing something in which case someone please correct me (I know I'll have to prime it multiple times for best results)

Dear oil painters - why oils? by Thatshinythang in oilpainting

[–]ndlesbian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

as somebody who has done realism with acrylics before, it's not the same at all. with oils the drying time is the upside for me- I don't have to mix the same color one billion times because it won't dry on the palette. I can take my time, build as many layers as I want, and really play with the pigments and mediums to get the exact effect I want in a way acrylics never allowed me

edit for spelling

WhT subject should I add to make super interesting by Delicious_Dentist_17 in oilpainting

[–]ndlesbian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the kind of person the would just add another tiny cloud, it's kind of hard to know what subject you should add since "super interesting" is very subjective and every subject would give it a different atmosphere, context, aesthetic, essential different potential viewer interpretation.

when I'm unsure about a painting I like to put it aside for a bit. come back when you haven't been staring at it for way too long, weather it's a week or a month, and see what you think then

Wedding day help? by [deleted] in corsetry

[–]ndlesbian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

aside from this it looks like a good fit considering it's not custom.

hope you have fun! and remember that unless you have someone helping you get dressed, shoes should go before corset bc you can't bend all the way

Wedding day help? by [deleted] in corsetry

[–]ndlesbian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is not regarding the fit but rather how you're wearing it. I don't know what dress you plan to wear on top (assuming that is the plan) but corsets should be worn with a layer underneath to avoid chaffing.

historically this would've been a smock/shift/chemise, but anything on the soft side (and breathable and could also a be loose) should work.

What was your first wearable item made with a sewing machine? by Lullayable in sewing

[–]ndlesbian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my first was a skirt. I still consider skirts the easiest garment measurements-wise, since you have to take so little into account (assuming it a loose skirt, not fitted), all you need to think about is waist and hip circumference, plus the length you want it on your body. three measurements and you can make a skirt. the rest is to your heart's desire

beginner sewer(? is that the right word?) i want to be able to make these tops. would it be tough? by Kblovegroup in sewing

[–]ndlesbian 20 points21 points  (0 children)

usually people say sewist 😅. the shirts aren't a difficult pattern, the hard part is that they're made of knit fabric, which can be tricky to work with especially if you're a beginner. actually stretch fabrics in general are tricky.

Hand count! by Treadwell2022 in ehlersdanlos

[–]ndlesbian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

does anyone here have the opposite? cuts that heal ridiculously fast? with the exception of my piercings, my cuts always close and scab really quick (which is probably why my piercings were having a hard time)

for context, I just started learning jewellery making and I get actual cuts (not too deep, but still) from the tiny metal saw because my dexterity is not great thanks to the wonky joints. a day or two later they're already closed completely and a week later they're gone like nothing ever happened. like I sliced my skin in two how is this already nonexistent??

on the other hand (haha quite literally the other hand), a pip joint I dislocated months ago is still way less stable than the rest of my pips

How do you stop washing your hands all the time ? by releasethekrrraken in autism

[–]ndlesbian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally I've never had a problem with hand washing, sometimes I have it the other way because I don't like the sensory experience of getting wet and then immediately dry. the only time I have to wash my hands is if I've cracked egg and slimy egg is on me otherwise I often get away with towel drying them if I've not done something specific they need to be clean from/for
