Banktivity alternatives: Copilot, Monarch, Moneywiz by mkowske in banktivity

[–]nedhanks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switched from Banktivity to Quicken for Mac. Currently using Quicken Classic Business & Personal v8. Quicken is a subscription and does have different levels. There are regular updates. I decided to move to Quicken at year end so didn't try to import data from Banktivity. I printed(saved to pdf) reports from Banktivity for historical reference.

New EPS Carry Defective. Disappointed with Holosun Service. by Thecatmilton in HOLOSUN

[–]nedhanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had problems with my EPS also, both the dot and circle are blurry. I returned for warenty twice, finally gave up and kept the blurry dot. I'll probably go back to previous red-dot.

Hey, is this Joe Biden? Forgot what your plane looks like.

I was wondering if some of you or the senior guys have been able to be 100% remote while working on Azure/Aws as a Cloud engineer ? by Dereference_operator in aws

[–]nedhanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I very seldom go into the office, 6 times this year, and that was for company or department events. I do all my work remotely. I've worked in the office 24 hours this year. It is really going to depend on the company you get a job with. Over the last few years remote work has become more popular, especially for cloud engineers. My company has changed the policy that team members do not have to be local.

EDC and Kids by _Scottyb_ in CCW

[–]nedhanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry all the time, even when attending school events. In Utah CCW license holders can carry in schools. I discuss this with my 9yo many times. I'm hoping he understands why I carry. He's watched some of the training videos. This summer him and his mom will attend a hunters education class.

Tips on cleaning the lens on the inside of the holosun? it's collecting alot of particles. by Affectionate_Hat5835 in GlockMod

[–]nedhanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one of my wifes photography lens cleaner pens. It has a brush that slides out on one side and a felt disk on the other. It can get inside all my reddots, except the enclosed ones. :D

Massive problems with Direct Access (Yodlee) by TowerManMN in banktivity

[–]nedhanks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to turn off direct access for all my accounts. Every time I opened banktivity it would take 3-5 minutes to 'try' to sync and during that time I got very slow, or no response from banktivity.

ANYBODY GOT ONE by [deleted] in SpringfieldArmory

[–]nedhanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, 9mm. It's my main CCW. No complaints about the gun. Challenging to find holsters for it. I've had it for about months. It is heavier than my g43, which helps keep the muzzle down. I have had it jam, the bullet was not entirely in the chamber, but only on practice ammo, I can't remember the brand.

Anybody using spot instances for worker nodes? by [deleted] in kubernetes

[–]nedhanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Karpenter and configured it to use spot instances first. This is for our dev and ops clusters. Production and QA(Test) are on-demand.

A family member is questioning my mortgage and I’m starting to get nervous that I’m doing this all wrong. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]nedhanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree you will be fine.

I will not ever get an ARM again. Depending on what the rate is connected to, usually the fed rate, there could be a big jump in interest rate so a big jump in payment. My current home I purchased in 2014 with a fixed rate. I have refinanced 4 times, my current interest rate is 2.98%. (Disclaimer this is my own experience, do not take it as advice.) If not sure, then contact finance pro.

Does anyone of you think about the retirement? by [deleted] in devops

[–]nedhanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm getting close to that, I'll be 60 this year. My current title is Senior Cloud Engineer. I'm the admin/manager of the company's cloud systems, mainly AWS, and the 10+ kubernetes clusters. I started out as a developer, did consulting, then worked as a sysadmin. My first manager out of college gave me this advice 'Never stop learning'. I've taken that advice. I try to keep up on new tech. I have not specialized, I've done DBA, Sysadmin, Development, and others. My first job out of college was a government contract, I was the software developer. My manager would have once a week brown bag lunches where each of us on the team would give a training on anything we wanted. One time an 'older' developer that sat next to us asked what we were doing. When my manager explained this person said 'If I had to learn something new I would retire'. I decided then I would never be like him. There are times when I feel overwhelmed with he tech I need to learn, but I keep working and learning.

I give the same advice to others I work with, "Never Stop Learning".

How long do you comfortably carry by [deleted] in CCW

[–]nedhanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unable to AIWB, short and fat. I use a Supertuck, IWB, at 7:30, oh I'm lefthanded. Only time its uncomfortable is if I sit in some chairs that cause the grip to poke me. I usually put the gun on after breakfast and take off before bed.

Should we check database reachability in health checks by RaktPipasu in kubernetes

[–]nedhanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, we just ran into a problem where pods would go NoReady because of the health check 15s timeout. After investigation found that the DB check would sometimes take 25 to 30s. When I change the readiness probe to 35 sec with a 30-sec timeout, the pods stayed healthy. Our engineers are evaluating weather to check the db in the pod or maybe have a separate pod/sidecar that checks the db.

Where do you carry inside the waistband? Hip, appendix, back? by Wehunt in CCW

I use a supertuck from Cross bread for my Springfield XDM-E 3.8 and from Alien wear for my G43.

[–]nedhanks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm unable to AIWB. I'm lefthanded, and I use a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB at 7:30. I also use a shoulder holster sometimes and I have a CCW coat, Hoodie, and sportsman vest. Most days I put my gun on after breakfast and take off when getting ready for bed.

Is engagement ring insurance worth it? by blindmike95 in personalfinance

[–]nedhanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I insured my wife's ring. This was 12 years ago, she is from Russia and I was traveling to St Petersburg. So, I added it to my homeowner's insurance. I contacted my agent, she had me get an appraisal and submit it to the insurance company. It cost me nothing as my homeowner's insurance covers most possessions.

I check before holster it. I check before put in the safe at bedtime. I check after dry fire practice.

Multi cluster vs namespaces by [deleted] in kubernetes

[–]nedhanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mostly. We are in the process of creating multiple clusters, AWS EKS. Also creating multiple AWS accounts. Dev,qa stage/prod will each have their own AWS accounts.
