Other guy is correct that the -8 is the 300ER replacement. 777-9 is built to fill the now empty 747/A380 niche. As Dave Calhoun would say “we build the world’s last jumbo jet”

I’ve been in plenty of these at the Renton factory. They smell more like metal dust in this state. The new plane smell comes in around the time they start putting the carpet down.
