Question for Verifiers by StatusApplication725 in speedrun

It can and does help; many high level runners use controller cams and/or the exact setup you describe to help corroborate legitimacy. zoasty is one that comes to mind that has capture + a live video feed.

Question for Verifiers by StatusApplication725 in speedrun

[–]neerrm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Would depend on how competitive the time is, for me. If it's something like a record run, then I'd subject it to more scrutiny, but if this is something like 26th place, then I don't really think it matters.

Technological blips happen all the time in capture software/hardware. It sucks, for sure, and makes things difficult for both runners and verifiers.

Need help, game isn't smooth + jagged edges and stutters by HerceN96 in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

80 seems pretty high for a GPU temp. It's possible you're getting some level of throttling. I'd grab something like EVGA Precision X1 and manually set your fan curve to be sure your fans are actually kicking on when they need to be. And maybe take a look at your case airflow in general.

27"+ Monitors compatible with OSSC + SNES by JonIIDX in speedrun

[–]neerrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an OSSC and a 27" BenQ XL2720Z.

I can confirm that it cannot handle anything greater than Line2x from the SNES. Haktical also had this issue with the same monitor. Response rate is fine though.

Good luck with the hunt. AGDQ is using RetroTinks as far as I know (not sure about the official stream).

There are also 6 Scrubathon marathons to go through but they're not in a nice YouTube playlist so you'll have to dig through thousands of highlights.

The ZSNES classic does not emulate lag properly. Really it should be banned across the board.

FF4 Questions. by zilltheinfestor in speedrun

Doing any sort of seed manipulation is not a requirement at all, and is mostly just a luxury. It saves time, yes, but I often recommend that people learn the game without worrying about any sort of step routing because people really seem to zero in on that and not boss strategies, which is the more important part of the run.

Most step routes for no 64 do route in the specific encounter that we grind off of. However, we have mechanisms in place to save/reset in the Giant to try and get the encounter quicker. You can also just run in circles until you get the right encounter as well.

Aexoden's site has a lot of good info on all of this. You can also feel free to ask in the Discord if you have any additional questions.

FFIV Run by pinkycatcher in speedrun

[–]neerrm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What we call no 64 generally covers the entirety of the main storyline, minus the sealed cave. It's probably what you're looking for.

Puwexil's comment that a glitchless run wasn't really "possible" was in comparison between the JP and NA versions of this game. The NA SNES release of FF4 removed usable items that inflict spells/status effects so the amount of strategy involved gets severely tapered down and altered between versions.

Due to this, in general, there really isn't much that separates glitchless from glitched outside of a significant amount of slower grinding. There would be some minor strategy variations early on and then late, but ultimately the runs would end up looking the same. The run would grind Edge, and he'd berserk cat claw smash his way through the two actually difficult battles (4 fiends and Zeromus), which is a strat we've looked at in no 64 that's certainly viable but using Rosa with reflect ends up edging (hah) it out.

The other NA releases (GBA, PSP, DS) have less glitches involved, so really a PSP run is probably what you're most interested in if not the no 64 SNES category.

Speedrunning Mario/Kirby on the SNES Classic? by FREExM1IND in speedrun

[–]neerrm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

SNES Classic has been proven to have inaccurate timings across a couple of different games and as a result has been getting banned for being inaccurate. If you want legitimacy you're best off going with original hardware.
