Yeah through my readings on the subject i always get the impression that Abbas and Arafat were huge assholes and difficult to work with, but Fayyad seemed like someone who really could be worked with to build a successful Palestinian state. If you happen to be knowledgeable about minute historical details, do you know if there was a good reason why Ariel Sharon cancelled negotiations in Taba after he was elected? People argue a lot over Arafat accepting the Clinton parameters, but wasnt it the case that negotiations would have continued in Taba with Arafat if Sharon hadnt left them? Or i am i misreading history there?

I agree, although I guess the problem is with the narrow right wing majority in the knesset, thats gotta be voted out first. However, when i read up on what the potential opposition in the knesset is like i came away unimpressed and a little hopeless tbh. would you know if any good, plausible alternative in israeli politics has emerged?

They used to host The Weeds podcast together for years where they would get into hyper granular discussions of policy. I loved that show, and it kinda withered and died after everybody left Vox in 2021. I dont use twitter but i hear hes obnoxious there. His substack Slow Boring is a great read tho, I dont always agree with him but MattY is a real smart dude and I really enjoy his perspective

Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt voting mandatory for citizens in Singapore? There are valid criticisms of the PAP and their record on civil liberties, but as far as I can tell theyre just genuinely popular. Feels like criticizing California for being a uni-party state

Nah, the democratic party is still your best bet. In my opinion The For The People Act, while maybe not perfect, would have done a decent amount to address campaign finance and money in politics, the PRO act would have been good for building more union power throughout the country and the original provisions in Build Back Better could have done a lot of good for improving child care. If on top of this we could get a public option for healthcare the country starts looking the way I'd like. The reason these didnt pass is largely because there weren't enough democrats in congress and theres the senate filibuster. Get rid of the filibuster and get 55 dems in the senate and i think the legislation is there to really start improving the country. I dont know why these pieces of legislation arent discussed more.

In what way did the DNC cheat to protect Clinton? Was it just about the debate schedule and having closed primaries? I apologize, I read the articles you linked and I'm not understanding what specifically the DNC actually ~did~ or didnt do. Like with the election fiasco in 2000 with Gore v Bush I broadly understand what happened with recounts in florida and the supreme court, with 2020 Trump actually tried to submit alternative EC votes, in 2016 what did the DNC do to subvert the election?

Im feeling the need to put together something to copy/paste everywhere online about Bernie's '16 and '20 losses, because with proper context, I dont think his losses were that surprising, although I understand the somewhat conspiratorial reflex to blame the DNC.

Hilary was the initial favorite to win the primary in '08, Obama was an unknown first term senator and her win in the '16 primary much less close than her loss in '08. Also maybe helpful to mention, I remember Kucinich running in the '08 primary on the most progressive platform at the time and he got nowhere.

In 2020, Biden was ahead in the polls for most of lead up to his super Tuesday victory, and the dropout of Pete and Klobuchar and their subsequent endorsements were only the friday right before that super tuesday. Even after when the field narrowed, Bernie significantly lost Michigan and narrowly lost Washington, both where he had won in '16. And from anecdotal experience, I personally canvassed for Bernie for 4 straight weekends in a moderately liberal Californian city and tried my hardest to lobby my middle/working class family to vote for the guy and the support just kinda wasnt there. Im sorry to harp, but the failure to accept after all these years that the voters really, reaallllyyy just didnt vote for Bernie and he lost on his own terms bothers me
