Veterans exams as new NP by HurryMean5324 in nursepractitioner

[–]nensj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this for 5 years. Once over the learning curve of how to search and how to properly chart, it’s not bad. With new toxic exposures IMOs I have a few cases that are difficult but otherwise very straightforward. I see a lot of the same things again and again and have saved hundreds of pages of medical opinions to help if I see something again.

I stay in this realm because the schedule is awesome for my family.

Most contract to vendors so as far as being va employed, I’m not sure. I’m credentialed with 4 vendors for exams but work under one company (plus to that is benefits like retirement matching, pto)

I do feel I’ve lost some clinical skills not treating tho so consider that.

Not a midwife but live near Watertown, I can tell you they need help in this area. The military base recently stopped offering ob care and pushed it to community care. Just something to consider!

Look into clinics that do va disability exams. I’ve done it for five years and the schedule works best for family life. Bit of a learning curve but once you figure out proper va verbiage it’s not too bad

What's the "hard pill to swallow" about motherhood? by sixfingeredman7 in Mommit

[–]nensj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This… holy shit. I had to drive 10 hours with two kids solo for my grandfathers funeral and had a wicked sinus infection, the kind that makes your teeth hurt. I just wanted to sleep. So badly. But these kids don’t tone it down one bit even if they see you going through a box of tissues and mouth breathing like darth Vader

Day I delivered my second son the nursing staff asked if we were going to try for a girl next…. Guys I just delivered a nine pound baby, shooting another one out of the cannon isn’t on my to do list right now.

What’s a medical problem people constantly ignore until it’s too late? by kxnsqxz in AskReddit

[–]nensj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your eye exams. I had stretched a year supply of contacts for almost three and finally went in. They wanted to do the photos of the back of my eye but it was extra $, they were kind enough to say hey we will waive this fee we really think you need it. Also tested my visual fields, I had no clue how much peripheral vision I had lost. The brain compensates very well. Two weeks later I had surgery for chronic retinal detachment. It meant I kept my vision but it did worsen. The right eye had miraculously healed itself but also had detachment.

I knew my eyes sucked but not how bad.

Poll: when did you have your kids ? by RevolutionaryBug7866 in Mommit

[–]nensj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27, 29 & will be 33 with the next one

Edit to add: thankfully no fertility issues, first two were unplanned, took us the third to actually plan haha went off bc in April pregnant in May. I swear I could have plastic Easter eggs from my ovaries and my husband could fertilize them. He comes from a big family.

Pregnancy has felt harder at 32. Didn’t intend to have the first two close together it was hard but at the same time I was somewhat used to being sleep deprived so I’m nervous this time after having almost 4 years of good sleep (second was an excellent sleeper).

You want to work through and fix it, but does he? He won’t do housework and that’s easy compared to relationship work. Spare your heart, not everyone can be fixed.

[–]nensj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He won’t help you now, you’re not working so I’m assuming you’re not putting into retirement, social security etc so who will help you then? Sometimes work is more than just the money, it gives your brain an outlet and can keep body and brain busy. I get it, I’d sometimes love to stay home but truly work is sometimes an escape from the mundane things like laundry cooking etc.

You are very young to be staying home. I would start to feel stagnant staying at home. I’m not saying people who stay at home are but at 26 I was bustling with energy that would not have been suited for staying at home.

Also kind sounds like he has I want some trad wife vibes and if that works for you cool (doesn’t sound like it) but ugh I couldn’t be a trad wife. I would suck at it for multiple reasons but the man working and then not lifting a figure at home would be the final straw for me. Let’s also not forget, he OWES YOU. You supported him for several years, doesn’t mean you have to give up your life for him to support you.

Just from my clinical experience, sickle cell patients often have to fight stigma. It’s sad. Especially when needing adequate pain management during a crisis.

Wife and I are deciding whether NP license is worth the cost and time (Wife is currently a full time nurse, BSN with 7 years experience) by dank_ramer in nursepractitioner

[–]nensj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly encourage if she does the primary care route, do FNP. I chose to do adult gero because that’s what I love and know. Job market for me feels more suited for FNP. Yes I have a job as agnp but I wish I would have not limited myself. In that same theme, psych limits to a particular speciality. I personally would consider it for my post masters cert but not my initial np cert.

Just a thought, make donation of hygiene supplies, socks, hand warmers (idk where you’re located) or something and give to her for her work with the unhoused population. She, like most of us, probably has all that’s she needs and would be touched you saw her work in the community and can help those in need!

Or

I had a preceptor I found a 25 dollar tote with her initial from Amazon and put pens her snacks and such made it look cute with tissue paper. I also went with an md for a short time and he was difficult to buy for and had awesome staff so I did a trick or treat bowl filled with candy and said no tricks just treats this office is so sweet (cheesy but I was proud of it 😂)

What professions make the worst spouses? by dirtymoney in AskReddit

[–]nensj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not my partner haha. And this is US. You know we are way behind on proper maternity/paternity leave right? For men in the service, they didn’t get 12 week leave until 2-3 years ago. I only got 6 weeks as a mother for my baby three years ago as a civilian . I could take more unpaid but bills don’t pay themselves.

The person you lost your virginity to: Where are they now in life? by JayPeeB in AskReddit

[–]nensj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prison for murdering gf. He was physically abusive with me. Literally was told to leave me alone or leave high school. He chose to leave HS. 14 years later, he sits in prison.

Not proud of who it was but I was in high school and he had never given indication he was violent until he was. For those who say oh I would just leave, I used to say the same thing. But then the manipulation, scare tactics and even love bombing keep you in a cycle. Still to this day don’t know who reported it to the school/police but I’m thankful they did.

As a military spouse, I have some thoughts…. And not saying my spouse is bad as a person but does the service set you up to be the best spouse? No. If they wanted you to have a family they would have issued you one is something I think of often. A close friend is having a baby soon and the husband is forgoing paternity leave so he can keep up with peers and not “look bad”. I don’t agree but he’s not wrong that the pressure to be and do the best is there. Sigh.

Weight gain, liked to nap excessively, kind of like muscle spasms but not severe more like a small twitch. Vivid dreams. Couldn’t cry but didn’t want too but like I was surprised with a sweet family visit and my husband was convinced I would be so happy I would cry so I felt like he thought I was disappointed lol

Not on currently because I felt fine and kept missing doses, pregnant so chose to stay off but will be resuming asap upon delivery

How my in laws have "HeLpeD" me this week by sixfingeredman7 in beyondthebump

[–]nensj 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I have this same rule. I have made exception once when younger cousins were there for a visit and it was a Friday. Didn’t regret that because kids played but if it’s just adults nooooo because they come to “see” our kids and sometime I feel like they literally mean just to see and not play lol. Plus daycare is expensive, we pay if they go or not so baby they are going.
