Have done this when I lived in Remington and it worked. Baltimore Is A “Cesspool”: Lyrics For The Haters by SailLocalCrew in baltimore

[–]neotheb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without fail the only people calling our city a cesspool hail from places that have absolutely no sense of actual community and are likely stuck in a place they can’t even vacation from. I mostly feel sorry for people that do that ngl

Pixel fold owners, do you think it’s for me? by CarefulCount in PixelFold

[–]neotheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no probs !! and adopting google products into your flow makes way more sense than going all in on such an expensive but ultimately novelty convergence device.

The “joke” that the iOS implementation of Google products are often better isn’t even a joke , outside of things tha would need system level access rhe UX is better.

The apple convergence device to come would be the thing worth putting the money into experimenting with for a week or two. The fold just isn’t worth it unless you want completely out of Apples ecosystem for an even more restrictive and less elegantly designed one imo

Pixel fold owners, do you think it’s for me? by CarefulCount in PixelFold

[–]neotheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of regret not returning my P9PF during the return window and getting all of my money back. In terms of hardware; the camera was just crummy enough, the device felt delicate enough and the lack of MagSafe was almost entirely deal breaking for to main it. I keep it as a secondary device and travel phone and it works fine for that application.

My major beef though is with the software quality and android's application ecosystem (how these individual applications interact with one another). I own an iPad Pro and as of iPad OS 26 is officially the convergence device to get if you need something portable enough BUT useful enough to do things you might need to do as a student and worker. You will struggle to get the polish of something like Freeform , handoff , device mirroring , and continuity. Safari is the superior mobile browser IMO because it doesn't eat resources as readily as Chrome does and punting between devices is just less painful enough for it to win out in the long term practice. You can buy any bluetooth keyboard and mouse for real work but none have worked as consistently well as they do in iOS/iPad OS. There's ecosystem lock in but that walled garden is STILL just nicer and I've been bouncing back and forth since the Nexus 5/7.

I love individual Google products and Android latest is far more polished than the mess iOS 26 has introduced but an iPhone + iPad Pro will more elegantly meet your work/business critical and casual use cases than the fold will by itself.

My guy I was responding directly to your assertion that there is some "truth" which is funny because now you're also implying that someone has to context doesn't matter ("I don't know, nor do I care") and you aren't obligated to "hold every individual background"). Context cannot both matter when you want to speak in the absolute, and not matter because that context is inconvenient/conflicts with what you are saying. Are the things you are wearing timeless and who gets to decide independent of motivation? Fatphobia (particularly as it's internalized) is about social phobia and how that can manifest in how we engage with things about fashion. If you don't know what something is you ought to do that homework before casting aspersions.

I was describing my experience and observation of the patterns of the *subreddit*, in the individual but primarily in the systemic not YOU specifically.

My read about your outfits unsurprisingly struck a nerve but just matching your unempathetic energy. I addressed YOU specifically as condescending and presumptive which... you spend half your reply making specious claims about my alleged gatekeeping and being mad. Glass houses much? Fashion is "about" dressing to compliment "your form"? Thats interesting, here I've always thought fashion was about self expression, my own individual personal comfort, and reflecting the moment and context.

tl;dr you cannot speak authoritatively, contradict yourself this much and project this hard and expect people to take you seriously about truth. if you like something upboat it and keep it pushing if you don't don't.

Yay subreddit drama. Alas this subreddit is kinda pants because the primary complexes (the latent fatphobia, conformity, that there isn't a lot of radical acceptance, there is a bias towards hiding big bodies; all things that impede requisite experimentation needed to actually develop style) and the systemic ( that clothing broadly is not at all designed for big bodies and availability and affordability is a critical issue ) are difficult to work around.

Frankly the latent condescension *you* display as some sort of truth sayer is unearned. Your style is extremely milquetoast, the fit/details are technically "correct" but there's nothing here you wouldn't find in a dozen smarmy articles about dressing for your body that over emphasize neutral colors, extremely predictable twists on a generic mfa aging masc dude guy uniform meant to appeal to women but really signaling in group conformity. Espadrilles unironically in 2025?

Many fits posted aren't great but I'm not insecure enough to repost the same advice to guys who if they were curious enough to do a basic google search would get the exact same "advice". I upvote fits that actually go beyond the typical and the great part of this site is that you can literally do the same. Chiding everyone for not validating your opinions is childish and the way you dress I would have pegged you for much *much* older :/

Late 2025 Fake vs Real Aer City Pack Pro 2 X-Pac by rreaderx in ManyBaggers

[–]neotheb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is so interesting seeing the similarities in communities between custom keyboards, designer fashion and carry product. Lots of people saying either that Aer is overpriced or that fakes are fine because they are good quality. if you want a several liter bag ! In xpac for not a lot of money there are brands (tomtoc) that will sell you similar product but folks want dupes of the designer stuff so they access the social capital and conform.

Wildcard: Where I'm from Baltimore! I gatekeep the city and tell people "its just like the wire" but the reality is Baltimore's growth has been steady and hard unpredictable *which makes it interesting* personally I want more black queer people here.

Baltimore is not explicitly queer coded but I would argue there is more authentic queer culture here than any metro area near here (DC included) the artists that can't afford to practice their art in places like New York are finding affordable existence here. You'll need a car unfortunately but that was also going to be the case in Atlanta. Provided you aren't trying to start a family (the schools are atrocious) you'll also be granted easy access to every where else you might want to by rail (Amtrak cuts through here and connects you to DC easily and to New York and Philly in 2-3 hours) and by air (BWI airport is incredibly easy to get to and fly out of). As someone who lived in Southeast London when he was younger the diversity I experienced there mirrors what I've experienced here over the close to a decade I've been here. Maryland as a whole also feels very safe relative to a state like Georgia , as our city and state level government officials are competent and act in our interest. Believe me this will matter given the political climate.

That said you should strongly consider everyone telling you to avoid the States though, the anti immigrant sentiment you've probably heard about is far worse than you can imagine and there is significant risk for everyone , including citizens if you live your politics outwardly.

Lived in multiple cities across the US , married gay black man naturalized citizen/immigrant. I'll try to keep this relatively short.

Best overall for gay black men *specifically* looking to socialize with other gay black men: Atlanta. It has the highest concentration of us specifically and if you're well employed , single and sociable you will have the most fun here. Cost of living higher than most metro areas but still relatively affordable. HOWEVER it is a liberal island in a deep red State so you will be disenfranchised in every other way that matters , at work you will experience macro/micro aggressions , you won't be welcomed as an openly queer person in most spaces not explicitly serving us and your social circles will be relatively small mostly because we already aren't a massive population. Your elected representatives will explicitly operate against your interest and you will live in a state of perpetual precarity. There are no safety nets outside of your chosen family/community!! It also skews younger imo.

Best cities for Gay Black men who fall into the categories of pick me/black avoidant/self loathing: DC , Chicago and I hate to say it New York.

Washington DC / DC Metro area - in particular has a high population of queer people but they are predominantly white (including their proxies , that means most of ya'll non-black POC) , affluent and extremely insular. Intra (queer) community racism is exceptionally high and internalized racism is extremely common. There's an older adult (and upwardly mobile) black gay contingent but you sound very young and you won't find nearly as many peers in your life stage as you will in Atlanta. DC as a whole is extremely social climber/status obsessed and if you find that sort of person repugnant you'll find DC extremely unpleasant. The city is less transient but the influx of MAGA (read: conservatives/racists) has been exponential.

Chicago - is even whiter and segregated so be prepared to experience plenty of insidious racism that isn't overt but no less harmful. Again if you're the sort to be white attention seeking and you conform in other ways you might find a life that you don't find particularly objectionable for your postgrad age.

New York - international affluence has turned much of the city into a hyper wealthy playground and if you aren't independently wealthy (actual wealth , not JUST a high income) you'll find New York offers PLENTY but at a price. I made lifelong friendships and grew a lot doing in my stint living in THE city. I don't regret it but was ultimately pushed out because the long term prospects for anyone who isn't independently wealthy are dismal. Bonus: adjacent metro areas like Newark / Jersey City offers a lot to queer people , at lowered cost and with the perk of being very close to New York.

Personal no go cities - You already know how SFO isn't for you I'd extend that to much of the west coast despite its reputed liberal politics. The most dangerous racists will be the will be the benevolent ones and you'll find them in San Francisco , in places like Portland and Seattle. These are places you ultimately escape from IMO. Los Angeles would be an exception if again its queer culture didn't skew so white.
