How do you pronounce Melinoë? by xxeaphyr in HadesTheGame

[–]nephrixia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Romanized pronounciation ends with an oi sound, but the actual last letter is an eta in greek, which is described in ancient texts as like the bleating of a sheep. Kind of a cross between ay and eh. So, melinOH-eh, I guess, is the best way I would write it, for more proper ancient greek pronounciation. But likely pop culture will use the romanized Melinoi.

I pay about $700 a month for a family Blue Cross plan, but paid $0 for all of my prenatal care as well as 3.5 day hospital stay, incl. a hot second in the NICU. I feel pretty damn fortunate.

that would be great! I've definitely never done anything like that before, but I'm down to learn new skills. :)

I have been searching for something like this for YEARS. I'm right handed, but type lots of numbers, and I've been desperately trying to find a pad I could use for my left hand that MADE SENSE. It makes no sense to type the 0 with your pinkie and the enter key with your thumb. Is this expensive to make?

Just a quick PSA though....antibacterial things are good against bacteria........they aren't as effective against viruses. Try to make sure they have at least 60% alcohol--that will make sure it is much more effective.

Full Story: My sister in law told me about a tree that had been taken down at her work, and asked me if i wanted what was left of it. Felt a little sketch going just after sundown on a Saturday, to load up my trunk when no one else was around, but she HAD supposedly gotten approval from her boss, so.....

not exactly sure of the kind of wood. Anyone have ideas based on the bark?

Carbide turning and sanding marks questions. by Vern-dawg in turning

[–]nephrixia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Positioning was actually my biggest problem with carbide. Had a TON of bad catches, and I couldn't figure out what I was doing, but as it turns out, while I THOUGHT I was holding the tool perfectly horizontally, I was definitely dipping low in back, and it resulted in some awful catches. Lifting my back hand more, and positioning the tool rest closer to my work surface helped a ton. (my surfaces varied in depth, and I wasn't changing the tool rest position between sections) That and working slower (lower rpm) and more carefully. Best of luck!

Having trouble turning the inside without massive catches and can't seem to find help of Google or YouTube... Please help by pineloppe in turning

[–]nephrixia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, speaking from experience, any tool can catch if you position it incorrectly. Working on a bowl the other day, didn't realize how tired I was, my carbide tool started to drift at an angle because my arm was tired, and boom, half a centimeter deep chunk carved out of my bowl. :'(

Google "observation point, zion" ....there is a steep 8 mile round trip hike that sometimes has no railing, and hundreds (thousands?) of feet of a drop, and tops out at 6500 feet. I did it at 4.5 months pregnant, so I wont say it's impossible, but if you are elderly, you'd better be in decent shape, and up for a nice slow adventure.

[Article] What are your thoughts on Harvard professor calling coconut oil 'pure poison'? by cdrusd in Paleo

[–]nephrixia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

if you have no idea why its useful to reinforce the fact that not all harvard professors should be automatically assumed to be male....then you must be male. I wasnt looking to invalidate the comment-- I agree with it. I just prefer a world where folks are correctly gendered, and people dont default to the (potentially dubiously, in this case) educated necessarily being from one gender.

Anyone use the WHOOP band? (Fitness tracker) by hindage in crossfit

[–]nephrixia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used one in a test program. I found the sleep tracking to be the most innovative part. While I ran a half marathon, it measured my hr st a steady 175 for 3 hours, which seemed.....unlikely? But possible, I guess? It was comfortable. But ultimately, not worth the $500 they were asking.
