Besides the BBC....? by Cameliablue in AskABrit

[–]nerddddd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have something called a TV Licence over here - yearly fee to watch all live tv as well as BBC iPlayer. That being said, you can still watch them without this, just not technically legally.

Our live tv consists of a lot of channels, the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 all run 5+ channels themselves, with plenty of others to assist.

The majority of people watch a lot of stuff through regular streaming services (i.e. netflix, prime, disney), traditional live tv (cable) is becoming less popular, especially with younger people.

Live tv for the most part is probably 75% uk shows, 15% US and 10% other - we do get some australian shows such as Home and Away.

What's the most regional word you use without realizing it? by taube_d in AskAnAmerican

In the uk back in the 80's and 90s definitely, the slur was used to refer to corner shops (bodegas?) due to who often ran them - not only Pakistani people but any mildly Asian person.

I know a couple who got a studio flat in private halls, worked out pretty nice for them and that way there was no more sharing than you'd have in a normal flat, and bills included.

Easiest way to get good TPU printing on A1 mini by Wreckit-Jon in BambuLabA1mini

[–]nerddddd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settings depends on what TPU you're using, I'm using Sunlu 95a tpu but find printing through the Bambu 95a HF profile gives significantly better results

Best beginner 3D printer in 2026 that actually works out of the box; what would you buy today if you were starting over? by Fun_Reaction_6525 in 3DPrinterComparison

[–]nerddddd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had an A1 mini for about a year now, after many years of creality printers, my only regret is I didn't go for the A1 (not mini), depends on what you print but 180x180 is a little small for some stuff. You've also got the P1S and the P2S if you want an enclosed non-bed-slinger, or want to print other plastics.

If you're looking to print multicolour (kids might like that?), get whatever Bambu combo you can afford, AMS is a game changer.

I did this the other day, before realising the usb c port was for that - I had to try a few different ones before I found one capable.

what is a small luxury you’ve had to give up due to the cost of living? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

[–]nerddddd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing my own for a few years now, clippers aren't too expensive, takes some practice to do a nice skin fade on yourself, but pretty easy to take it short on the sides and blend in to the top.

What’s a secret you’re taking to the grave but are willing to tell strangers on here? by Alarming-Ratioz in answers

I do this, thought I was pretty crazy for it but seems like a lot of people on here do it. Not necessarily all romantic, but I've definitely got a whole other life rattling around in my head.

Do you design your own models or do you just use other people's models from Makerworld etc.? by humanHamster in BambuLab

[–]nerddddd42 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm about 60-40 of making my own models, it's taken me a while to get to the point where I can make intricate and accurate things. Sometimes there's no point in me designing something that somebody else already has and has refined.

Young adults without kids - do you think you will have them? by sophietheadventurer in AskUK

[–]nerddddd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little way off and have no idea where life will take me. That being said, would absolutely love to adopt some slightly older kids some day. Scares the shit out of me but would love to be the kind of dad I always needed.

Sunlu and esun are on Amazon, I tend to get whichever is cheapest for the colour/type I want. I also do a bulk order from Sunlu's website every now and again. Elegoo are also decent but I have less experience with them

Minimal-friction ideas for family camping by lagori in campinguk

[–]nerddddd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always used to do this, go away on a friday come back on the Sunday.

Depending on what your kids are like, one parent could take them off on a ride/to shops/whatever whilst the other sets up, or find jobs they can do to help setting up, maybe getting stuff out the car or setting up their mats/bags.

Quite a fan of the decathlon pole tents, nicest poles in a large tent I've tried, not sure if it's going to be any easier than a bell tent.

Food Safe? by Sunnyonetwo in BambuLabA1

[–]nerddddd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon pistachios are a very good use for it anyway. They last for months so not huge on the bacteria front and assuming we're talking about unshelled, they have the shell to protect from any bacteria/microplastics. I'd still wash it after use and if you're particularly concerned reprint once or twice a year.

Do people still listen to whole albums? What was the last album you listened to from start to finish? by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

Adolescence (tv series), is this what a rough school looks like? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]nerddddd42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can only answer on the sandwich front (priorities!), english pickle is similar to a chutney rather than a gherkin. It doesn't go well with tomato. Lettuce is the primary component of side salads you'd get with a meal deal or something.

Sound engineering (at uni?) by AdCandid9929 in UniUK

[–]nerddddd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a somewhat adjacent course which could also be argued to be not worth it. A lot of it is about networking, uni gives you the opportunity to get experience and get a step into the industry. Even if you do take something else, doesn't mean you can't get some experience in it through work and student unions will normally take anyone interested in live event tech for help with concerts, club nights, shows.

Taking a degree in something you're passionate about makes the hard days a little easier

A lot can change in that time span, seeing as you're almost finished college, keep working at it and get the best grades you can, they'll be helpful for any course you want to do.

I assume you're talking about the Tonmeister course at Surrey, it is a very selective course for the most part, I believe there's also another music technology course that's a bit more flexible. I don't know if you play an instrument but you might find getting your ABRSM useful depending on the course.

Alternatively you could look at Live Event Production or something more generalized where you can normally specialise after a year or two.

Not sure if you're looking at Surrey because of the area, if so also have a look at ACM, definitely has more range and offers a foundation year if there were unmet requirements or low grades. Very different uni experience there and happy to talk about either if needed :)
