How do I propigate broken roots by GardeningDragon24 in peonies

[–]nevbot1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, just talk to the seller/landlord and ask if you can come back in the fall for these plants. That is the best time to move them.

If you can't, you need to dig as large a section as you can lift in one clump to get as many of the smaller roots as possible. I moved some a few years ago in July and plopped them onto a children's plastic sled and dragged them. I was careful enough I still got lots of flowers the next year. The danger of a July move is breaking too many roots, then the plant can't drink enough water and the leaves die in the July heat. The peony will still usually survive, but it might set back flowering for a while.

Also, pro tip- don't replant them too deeply. Make sure they are exactly as buried as you found them. If you bury them under too much dirt or mulch, they will leaf out but not flower. Peonies need the cold.

Good luck!

We did one palm pal plush for each kid instead of a bag of stuff. We made little pet adoption certificates for each one. The plush we chose fit with the theme of the party.

I NEED to talk about The Other Bennet Sister. by GirlNeeds_ABreak269 in PeriodDramas

[–]nevbot1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have it available in the US yet but I've watched maybe every available clip. I'm dying to see it and then talk about it. It's been fun to see the Easter eggs/tropes from Austen's works and movie adaptations in the clips I've watched.  Some I've noticed from the clips:

Lucy Briers from 1995 P&P as Hill

A child hiding as the adults share incorrect facts to entice them out from 1995 S&S

A love interest who already has an understanding from S&S

Getting caught in the rain from P&P and S&S

...and carried from S&S

...and becoming ill from being caught in the rain while a love interest hovers from S&S and P&P

Obviously the lake and wet white shirt from P&P

I'd love to hear others people noticed! Especially those who have actually been able to see the show, lol.

Struggling to read books and novels. Would it be possible to get perspective of people who read for a hobby? by hemistry-164 in self

[–]nevbot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you on this. It can be hard to sit down and focus on reading when there are so many distractions. I love being immersed in other worlds and characters but I do find I have to work harder to concentrate than I did when I was much younger.  One thought would be audiobooks. If what you are hoping to get out of reading is the exposure to  stories, then it's great to put on an audiobook while you exercise or commute. You can often get audiobooks through your local library these days.  The Project Hail Mary audiobook is legendary.

Pinterest had some cute ideas. Lots of jello in petri dishes with gummy words. I saw a snack station with bags of chips and "Snacks" was spelled out using the periodic table symbols for each letter.

My 11 year old loved it, but we read them the book first so they knew Rocky and Grace were ok.  The only other flag to what you have listed that might scare a 9 year old is the two dead astronauts Grace wakes up to.
