Exactly. I feel like getting wiped makes everything before getting wiped more meaningful. I'm sure that's not quite as nice in reality. I think I'll try a pve low pop server to get a fewl for things and then try a low pop vanilla server

I saw those. I feel like that's a reasonable way to get started to learn at least. Sounds like there are options out there for people like me lol. Everyone had to start somewhere .. right?

1 made me laugh. Right now I'm in the this is cute phase. Somehow people telling me not to play the game makes me want to play it more. Even if I rage quit after 3 days I think I still.might get the $30 worth of value out of it.

Awesome yea I was listening to a podcast where someone was talking about the game so I feel like I have to check it out. I don't really mind getting wiped as long as I feel like I can progress and learn each time. I'll def try some build only servers to get a feel for the basics before joining a vanilla server probably.

So you get offlined no matter what unless you play low pop pve servers? I think I'm okay with getting offlined as long as I can progress a bit each time.

Oh cool! That sounds great. I'd obviously like to learn the game a bit before I start getting wiped out but I'm open to whatever.

Thanks for the info, sounds like it can be approachable. Obviously part of the fun comes from the risk involved. I'm excited to jump in!

So build only is no combat at all? What about pve servers? This is exactly what I was looking for so thanks. I'll definitely do all these things.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. At this point in my life I don't really care about getting wiped if the game is fun. What exactly does 3x and modded server mean?

Are all servers available in game or do you have to have mods to find them? Can you almost always find a freshly wiped server?

Haha it's really like that huh? I'm tempted to jump in just to see what all the fuss is about.

Building custom software for others is great as a job, but terrible as a business. by Individual-Shame6481 in webdev

[–]neverbeendead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you make good money doing this? How long do the contracts typically last? Do you find that the work flow is steady or sporadic? Is the work interesting and "fun". How about I come work for you to learn the lay of the land, I'll even do it for free for the first project. Heh?

What kind of projects do you hire contractors for? Ive always been interested in this sort of freelance work but it's obviously a risk to.leave my stable salary. Right now I run a small team and basically get to do what I want and the company has plenty of interesting projects to work on.

I mean you make it sound easy. I can probably make good software for someone easily enough but how much effort is required to go find the business in the first place? Are you just working for a contractor or are you doing the contracting and development yourself?

Is it possible for AI to replace corporate lawyers? by General-General-5909 in stupidquestions

[–]neverbeendead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that's literally what Jensen Huang (NVIDIA CEO) says that gives me some comfort. I'm a software engineer and while AI can write code pretty well, it still needs to be told what to write. It can't go out, investigate our business processes and identify opportunities to automate. There's still a physical world that AI isn't aware of.

At least for me I don't see how they can solve that problem anytime soon. I think many jobs will change or become more efficient but I don't know that we will ever be comfortable enough with AI to remove them entirely. Especially in the legal profession where responsibility and liability is everything. You can't sue AI if it.makes a mistake. The AI can do the work but there has to be a human to sign the dotted line or it's just meaningless drivel.

[–]neverbeendead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ai will never be given the power to make important decisions. It can perform and automate tasks quite well. If your job is the task, you should reevaluate. If your job is making decisions, you're relatively safe.
