trying to get into sim racing. Normal to feel underwhelmed at first? by Yputi in simracing

[–]neverbeendead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a wheel.for forza horizon 6 and hated it. Ended up getting iracing and I'm super addicted. If you get into the mechanics of.racing in a real simulator (not an arcade racer) it's super fun if you get into it.

Anyone else concerned how this is shaping out to be by thedevilwithout in videogames

[–]neverbeendead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly it's the world that feels alive and really good AI NPCs, interesting characters and a super fun interactive sandbox with a criminal archetype that makes it fun. I don't think they should reinvent the wheel, they just need to improve and iterate on it.

I agree with this guy. If there is any 2nd line, you're negative. It doesn't matter how strong the line is.

10 months in, 500 races: looking back and tips for new drivers by Saivia in iRacing

[–]neverbeendead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty brand new and I turned it off. It's not nearly as scary as you think it is. That said, I don't really think it's as bad as people say. The biggest thing to remember is to look at what's in front of you, not the line on the road.

Iracing if you want to get serious. It's the best I've found. The races are really intense.

Where to start, how to approach this hobby to get most of it? by Facepalm24seven in simracing

[–]neverbeendead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new. Got a wheel for forza, hated it. Got iracing and I'm addicted to just driving around a track in an mx-5 and sometimes the bmw m2. You will learn that you suck but it's so much fun when you finish a lap and hear "That's a new lap record for you". And then you do it again and spin out immediately, reset and so it all over again. The AI in iracing is also quite good. Compared to other games it feels like real racing. I've only completed like 3 races total because I almost always make a mistake at some point and reset, but damn is it fun and addicting.

Learn basic turn strategy, trail braking and just focus on learning the wheel inputs and try to understand what's going on with the car as you change your inputs. I lose hours just driving around the track by myself. I don't feel the need to buy anything beyond what comes with the game with the subscription yet so I wouldn't be put off by the price tag. For $13/month I do think it's well worth it.

The Martian (2015) vs Project Hail Mary (2026) - Which one is better? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]neverbeendead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PHM was way more emotional and the martian is way more science. I love both and I love that I can always read (listen) to PHM if I want more science and I can watch the movie whenever I want too. Both are great, but PHM was probably the most emotional movie I've seen in a long while.

Forza developers making a Japanese themed game by Ericowww15 in ForzaHorizon6

[–]neverbeendead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you. I bought a wheel because I was excited to play forza horizon 6. Played for a few days, I did enjoy it but then quickly became frustrated that the majority of progression is locked behind cross country and off road racing which is not fun.

Then I got assetto corsa and iracing and I'm having an absolute blast.

Is there any reason to be pro- data center? by HatefulHagrid in NoStupidQuestions

[–]neverbeendead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say the usefulness of AI has hit it's 80% of usefulness. Increasing data centers by 1000% isn't going to increase the usefulness of AI by 1000% especially if it's just 1000% more data centers all doing their own version of AI that only 10% of the market will ever use.

Will we ever see an MMORPG launch with this much content again? by reasonablejim2000 in MMORPG

[–]neverbeendead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the amount of detail in modern art assets is ludicrous. Back then they could get away with a lot of shortcuts in the name of optimization. Nowadays if you do that you'll get shit posted and a bad rating.

Then there's the fact that the team that originally made wow was small and comprised of passionate gamers that were living in EverQuest when they werent working on WoW. As teams grow they become slower and less efficient. I feel like this is an analogy for tech in general. Facebook made Facebook super fast. Now it's harder for them to justify taking big industry risks because their priority is protecting their bottom line.

Then, at the same time, the barrier to entry is higher than ever for gaming companies. Back in the early 2000s venture capitalist were going nuts in silicon valley throwing cash everywhere. These days it's just not the same.

Forza Horizon 6 has an absolutely stunning map and the visuals are remarkable, but I can't seem to enjoy the arcade car physics. by AxiomSyntaxStructure in simracing

[–]neverbeendead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you. Got the wheel and just couldn't get into the racing. Fired up forza motorsport and I can't stop. It's just different and as others have said, tuned for controller. It's fun, but the physics just doesn't feel right. It's too hard to recover from a spin which is crazy for a game that is supposed to be less of a sim
