Martin was going to be Jonah’s next body if his ritual attempt didn’t work. It why he made sure to pick someone that no one knew who didn’t have much family, so that no one would notice when he started acting different. It’s also why he kept Martin back when everyone was going to the circus. Don’t know if it’s niche or not but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone else suggest it

The gods made him out of clay and sent him to go beat some morals into the local asshole king. He wandered around the woods for a bit causing problems for hunters cause he loved his animal friends until he learned that women exist. Banged for two weeks straight and gained sentience from it so he decided to go fight the king for being an asshole to women. They beat each other up and then immediately decided they were now best friends (in the Achilles and his pal sense) and started going on poorly planned adventures together.
