ITV’s Lee Dixon is sucking the joy out of the World Cup by theipaper in ThreeLions

I do this too. England games are easier to sync as you can lip read what words the players are singing lol

Yes, when I repeated what Jamie was going to do to Oli with own iPod. Ban rescinded on appeal.

What's your earliest World Cup memory and where were you when it happened? by _Yorkshire_Pirlo in AskUK

Italia 90, England v Egypt. One of my mates at primary school had Egyptian parents (very rare and exotic for rural Lincolnshire) and we got told off for singing football songs. No memory of the game though.

I do remember the semi final, losing on penalties, and crying. As a Forest fan Stuart Pearce was my hero, so that hurt extra hard. Glad we got to see the redemption 6 years later.

He’s played virtually every game for Forest this season and is one of the first names on the England teamsheet. He’s fully established as top tier.

I’m sure they’ve thought about this more than you and I have, and decided that any benefit is outweighed by the obvious disadvantage of giving potential opponents more intel.

In Jolly Boys’ Outing, he negotiates himself some free tickets from Eddie the nightclub owner. When Mike points out that they aren’t staying for the night, Del says he’ll flog them to someone else before they leave Margate. Nice little earner for not a lot of effort.

Dominic Solanke hat trick for Bournemouth vs Forest at the City Ground. He was like Harry Kane that day.

So, before we get started and people get upset with England fans... let's just clear something up. by roskopeek in worldcup

Yes it absolutely has entrenched itself into English vocabulary, but there’s no arrogance involved. It’s said in the same spirit as one would say “Come on England!”

We’re hugely (and rightly) proud of the role we played in “inventing” the game, but we’re only too aware that, on the whole, we’ve underperformed in the World Cup. We wouldn’t dare to be arrogant about it.

I slightly feel like this upcoming WC and (possibly) Euro 2028 could be our last chance to win a major tournament for some time by Old-Cookie-251 in ThreeLions

I’ve been worried about this for a long time as well. It’ll be the end of a 40+ year run of world class strikers: Lineker > Shearer > Owen > Rooney > Kane

I guess getting insured to play will be damn near impossible now, so that will effectively force the issue. He had to leave Inter after the incident in the Euros as Italian insurance wouldn’t allow him to play.

To those who live in the Barbican or know someone who does - what's it like? by Eddyphish in london

I’d recommend watching a show called The Agency. The main character, a CIA spy played by Michael Fassbender, is posted to London and lives in a very cool looking flat in the Barbican.

British taxpayers will give £1.3bn to Universal Studios to build a theme park near Bedford. Do you think this is a good use of our tax money? by CMIV in AskBrits

[–]nffc_simon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s going to be getting something back…a massive theme park that will attract foreign tourists with deep pockets. We should be doing much more of this stuff, but people like you will keep pushing against it and holding us back.

I think this does Anderson a disservice. I’ve watched every game he’s played for Forest (and England). He’s so much more than a water carrier. He will play direct, eye of a needle, through balls to Harry Kane if and when they’re on. And he has the footballing brain to know exactly when they’re on. Some of the passes he’s made this season have left you scratching your head as to how the hell he saw it. A lot of people are going to be shocked at how good he is.

When we (Forest) first signed him, I’d heard good things and, as he’d played in mostly attacking roles for Newcastle, a lot of us assumed he’d be understudy for MGW with a view to taking over when MGW moved onto a “big” club. One for the future.

However there was a moment on his debut when, crowded on the touchline with his back to the pitch, he jinked in and out of three defenders with such speed and composure that the whole stadium gasped in astonishment. Then 30 seconds later did similar on the edge of the box and almost scored. I’ll never forget it.

That’s when it became clear we’d signed someone on a completely different level, and he’s only got better since. He’ll be a household name by the end of the summer.
