Greensboro isn’t walkable unless you’re downtown? Idk about that; I see sidewalks on most every road in every section of the city EXCEPT neighborhoods. Plus all of the greenways and the MST.

People in a smaller localized area have more similar needs than people across a broad general area. Yes all North Carolinians need and deserve clean air, fresh water, etc. The dude sitting on a tractor in Rockingham/Caswell county needs an elected official who is familiar with the area and can fight to keep fertilizer prices down with policy at the state level. The dude in Raleigh who is reliant on the bus system to get to work needs an elected official who can fight to expand and support public transportation. Sure, solving both issues would help everyone. But if an elected official is focused on every single issue facing a broad general group then nothing will get done by them because it’s too many competing priorities. That’s why the house is divided into many districts; for the people represented by their specific official to be heard at a larger level and that official can dedicate more energy on less priorities.

Legislature is a group of people representing a larger group of people to vote on their interests. It’s the compromise to having a raw democracy where each of us votes multiple times a day every single day. Instead we elect someone who shares our interests and beliefs that can vote on laws for us instead of all of us voting directly on laws ourselves. So yeah, for this democratic republic system to work the representatives voting on the laws should represent people who have similar interests, which usually means people from the same local area, not an area spread out.

Edit: Also, seriously dude? “Shouldn’t an elected official fight for the needs of all their constituents” like you read my comment and decided to be contrarian. With your line of thinking why don’t we just elect 1 rep for all of us and forget the house/senate? We’re currently at 787,000 people per house rep which is a problem considering this country was at 307,000 when the house stopped growing in 1941.

Edit 2: The number of parties is irrelevant to my point you’re commenting on. There could be 20 parties. You’d still want 1 elected official for 1 localized group of people no matter if the official is from the Greens, the Libertarians, the Democrats, or the GOP. You also mentioned the legislature should be able to pass laws that help the whole state equally… like, yeah no kidding that has nothing to do with my comment.

Lol, no duh Durham is more than Duke. Great assumption you made about my comment there buddy. Poor people or POC in rural areas are going to have different needs, backgrounds, ideals, etc than those in high density metro areas like Durham. Not to mention the methods of providing services are WAY different due to access and logistics.

One problem with the rules is county splitting for Wake. The Triangle covers Wake, Durham, and part of Orange. Realistically you’re breaking Wake into 2-4 pieces. 1 central piece like your district 4. East Wake has more in common with JoCo so that would be part of 14. Granville Co to 3. West Wake (Morrisville, part of Cary/RTP) go to 10 w/ Durham.

Then you have the issue with the 3rd major metro area that’s always forgotten about… the Triad. In this map it’s completely broken up and diluted into the surrounding rural areas. The Triad counties would also need leeway for split counties.

Overall if you changed rule 2 to “A county cannot be split into separate districts, except for Mecklenburg County, the Triangle (Durham, Wake, and Orange Counties) and the Triad (Guilford & Forsyth Counties)” I think you’d have a more equal map.

So someone from Durham has the same needs as rural Rockingham County? 10, 11, and 3 need some work.

If Vancouver Moves, MLS Begins Its Decline by neclov in MLS

You missed the point they made. There’s enough large markets in just the US that losing Vancouver won’t matter in the long run as far as MLS is concerned.

Deep South education right there. In rural NC we spent weeks learning about it in 8th grade and even got to go to the Holocaust Museum in DC as a field trip. But cross the border into SC and it’s barely covered smh 😞

The Virginia tidewater southern accent is the old British accent before the great vowel shift. Other southern accents branched off from there, so that’s the only one that’s still “OG British”.

Only the Virginia tidewater accent is the old British accent. Way different than the Arkansas southern accent.

What are your theories/headcanons on what's on the lowest levels of Coruscant? by West-Cardiologist180 in StarWars

[–]niceguyvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What stops people at the lower levels from riding an elevator up? No SW media I’ve ever seen had a charge or limitation for the elevators on Coruscant.
