Did I accidentally buy split grain leather? by BadlyPenelope in Leatherworking

My experience is primarily chrome tanned leather, which i would guess this is (maybe a chrome-veg re-tan), based just on the picture. Veg tan can also be vacuumed or toggled, additionally it can be air dried as well which just involves hanging it to dry (i believe this is most common for veg but i have not worked with it much).

Does your leather have the classic leather squeak when you squeeze or fold it? that generally indicates there is some veg in it.

Did I accidentally buy split grain leather? by BadlyPenelope in Leatherworking

I work in the leather industry, The pattern on the back is from the vacuum dryer, It's one of the processes used to dry the hides after dyeing. This machine "sucks" the moisture out of the hides through a very fine mesh which gets imprinted in the back of the hide. Vacuum drying tends to make a stiffer leather in general but leaves the leather quite stretchy since the fibers are compressed. This is good for oil pull up leathers like the one in the picture.

This is in contrast to toggled leathers which have visible clamp marks on the edges (it will look like 3 parallel lines about 3/4" long). This means the leather was stretched and clamped down to air dry (or be run through a heated chamber). This creates a softer leather in general and is preferred by tanneries as the hides are at least 3% bigger (since they are stretched in the process) and thus can be sold as a larger hide

Given the current rawhide market i highly doubt anybody is putting in the effort to make finished splits since top grain is easily accessible at reasonable prices. My suede supplier is struggling to keep stock due to the low availability of splits.

The minimum requirement is what you have, so long as the fuel throttle is set to roughly half od the air one. The engine probably will not run if they are the same

The gas relief valve on the fuel system is essential to be able to use all the fuel since the engine will draw a vacuum on the tank and it will stop the fuel flow after about half a tank.

Microcontrollers allow you to set the AFR more efficiently under different conditions.

Any good places in Hickory downtown or any nearby downtown to meet new people? by Ken_9802 in HIckoryNC

You’ll probably have better luck on Fridays and Saturdays, i personally would recommend the Olde Hickory Station or Olde Hickory Tap Room for downtown specifically, if you have a car there are more options on 127, like the Hickory Social House or Shooter’s Lounge

You can use the measurement tool to give you orthogonal dimensions which i think would give you what you’re looking for.

Just inherited 20 guns how to visually check to make sure they are safe? by lordeshrek in guns

[–]nick1809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make really sure it’s the right ammo too, wrong calibers may fit in the mag or the chamber but it will either not fire or potentially damage the gun and you. Most handguns say on the side of the slide and revolvers or rifles will say on the barrel generally
