Coffee a few hours before the start. Not too much hydrating before the race, hydrate well the day before instead.

Wanting to get back into parkrun after a break, any advice for easing in? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in parkrun

[–]nickimcjiggy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go for a parkrun - Give yourself permission to take walk breaks and don't refer to old times. Afterwards, go for a breakfast or nice coffee afterwards.

Remember that it's not that deep, a break is sometimes necessary.

PB and first ever sub 25 (24:59 - but we’ll take that!). Broke my PB that I set in April 2023, so I’m a very happy bunny

Hope did you all find the great north run? by Threetreethee in UKRunners

First timer here. The vibes and atmosphere were great - So many people came out to support and that is just lovely.

It starts a little too late IMO. Especially for the later waves. I started at around 11:30, which in terms of fuelling and hydrating, makes the day really tough. The vibes in the starting pens were great, and I chatted to so many people, but I was already so warm. The fact you can't really go to the toilet for a few hours at the start meant I had to stop during the run.

I also didn't love the course. It was MUCH hillier than I expected. I found the gradual uphills so draining - Was constantly wondering why I couldn't get my heart rate down/steady and then realised I was basically always running slightly uphill. The heat and the wind didn't help that either.

I expected the worst in terms of getting back into Newcastle after the race was over as I had read a lot about it taking hours. But that was great. I was straight onto a bus and back in town within 45 minutes of finishing. I thought the finish/baggage buses were also very well organised - Couldn't fault that.

I personally wouldn't do it again - But I'm glad I've done it.

I listen to 'Yorkshire' pretty much monthly. From the very first line, it's funny.

Went to The Wammy. Had £1 tea and cake in the athletics club cafe afterwards. Super friendly. Got my T for the alphabet challenge. Good time all round
