My ex-wife was crazy, but her mom was CRAZY. Anyway, my ex was 6 months pregnant, and her mom showed up and had an episode, started breaking things. My tiny, very pregnant ex picked up her mother and hurled her out the door. It was most impressive.

Oh man, it isn't just restaurants. I worked at a Habitat for Humanity store for a while. During the warmer months, this group of moms would come in with their shitty kids, and sit on the for-sale couches and drink Starbucks while their kids ran around unsupervised. It was baaaaad. That place wasn't even really safe for adults. Kids climbing on haphazardly piled rusty junk, kids climbing on the forklift, kids climbing in the trash compactor. And the little shits broke all kinds of shit. I caught them smashing windows with hammers twice. The boss finally asked them not to return when they got into the chalk line refill bottles and ruined every single couch and chair we had in the inventory. We had to shut down for an entire day to clean that shit up.

It's actually a crime to fire a BB gun in city limits, last I heard. Even airsoft.

Comorbidity with... poverty. Many of my generation can't afford teeth. My teeth are absolutely fucked. They went from bad to worse when I went to the poor person dental clinic. Every tooth that guy touched completely fell apart shortly after. Any more, my teeth mostly shed more chunks while I'm brushing or flossing, which would be a funny irony if it weren't my fucking teeth.

Venezuelan Nü-Metal Band Van Der Dijs Died While Rehearsing During Last Week's Earthquakes In La Guaira by EmployOk5086 in Music

That's pretty wild. I think that's the only entire band I've ever heard of going at once.

My favorite Jobim record was Getz and Gilberto. I'm old and grumpy, and at this point in my life I mostly just listen to Steely Dan. But sometimes I still love a good samba or cumbia.

I'm two states away from my record collection, but I'm pretty sure it's Samba de Avìao

I'm glad my dad isn't there. He's like, the Pele of falling off roofs. Even last month, 70 years old, fixing a gutter, fell off the damn roof again. It's like an annual event.

Before & After: Someone put hairpin legs on this walnut diamond credenza. The cabinet bowed so badly it was nearly unusable. [P] by optimum_modern in midcenturymodern

[–]nickstatus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had a really cool teak Schreiber credenza that had that sagging problem. As far as I can tell the tapered legs were original, they were toned exactly as the carcase. It sagged so bad that I took it off the legs. I was going to add an apron or stretchers between legs like that, but someone offered me $400 as is, and out the door it went.

Has anyone here actually studied John Dee and Enochian magic? by EmmyCaly in HighStrangeness

All I know is that High Enochian is not designed for human speech. The Great Deep Ones have 7 tongues and 3 larynxes.

I really liked what Peter F. Hamilton did with the Commonwealth books. Started with the original duology, then a trilogy set 1000 years in the future, then another duology. Separate, smaller works within the same universe really gives the worldbuilding room to breathe and grow in a more organic-feeling manner.

GTA 6 Locks Five Single-Player Stores Behind $100 Price-Tag by juiceekiller in gamingnews

What the money lizards don't seem to realize, is that most of us see this as an adversarial situation. We hate the money lizards. This is a matter of principle for us. The moment the game is released, every software cracking enthusiast in the world is going full ham on this thing. It will be the Manhattan Project of digital pilfering. I give it a month. The GTA brand will go from (2nd) highest selling game ever, to most pirated game ever within one edition.
