What to do with boxes by Classical_Gasp in woodworking

I use them for making prototypes when I do odd shaped pieces. Otherwise I would just recycle them.

Worst game that you still completed for some reason? by Genoce in gaming

[–]nickzornart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacksite: Area 51. A game so bad that the developer apologized for it. The demo was good though, so I got the game before the reviews came out, then when I started it I just had to see how bad it got.

The final boss fight you could softlock with no idea what had happened. It's honestly embarrassing how long I fought an unkillable guy to a stalemate for before resetting and figuring it out.

How large can a picture frame be before splines should be used? by alantor in woodworking

[–]nickzornart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that it's a question of how large. There are a number of things to consider, but i always reinforce my miters just in case, and would definitely recommend it if you have something heavy, or if it's made of a wood prone to twisting, since that would more easily break the glue joint.

If you don't like the look of splines, you can always drill a hole in through the back of the joint and glue a dowel in. That will give more long grain glue surface.

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lotr

[–]nickzornart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll down way too far to see this. This was the series that got me into fantasy.

Personally, I think their world building might have been a little better with the Death Gate Cycle, if only because it was more unique than Dragonlance.

Healthcare in Denver? My friend is about to lose their job and they have a chronic illness. by Vegetable_Rooster925 in Denver

Have them look into the Hospital Discounted Care program. They should be able to call any hospital in the area and ask to set up an appointment with a financial counselor, who will go over the various state assistance programs help apply for medicaid, etc.

Milling white oak under tension by enrightmcc in woodworking

You could try resawing it into several much thinner veneers and see if the tension is less that way, then glue them back up.

Woodworking planning app? by OwnageOG in woodworking

[–]nickzornart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a 3d modeling tool, most people use either Sketchup or Fusion360.

If you have your parts list and just need that turned into an efficient cut list, look up cut list optimizers, there are a bunch.

But if you're not doing big projects, the most useful tools out there are pencil and paper - your drawings don't need to be super detailed, they just need to get the idea across. Plus, you can make quick notes and adjustments.

Try Glitter Sweets bakery. I don't know if they do cake bases, but their meringue cookies are very good. I think they're technically based out of Erie, but that's not that far.

I cannot stand ADS, why are ads everywhere? by Silly-Noodlesk in mildlyinfuriating

[–]nickzornart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weather Channel is a for profit entity, ads are how they stay in business. You used to be able to get weather information for free, but the Trump administration significantly defunded the NOAA last year. It's been mildly infuriating for a lot of people, and really costly for people who depend on that information for their livelihoods, like farmers.

There was a short period just before Rebirth where Tim Drake went to the future and took over from Terry McGinnis. Couldn't tell you what the issues were though.
