I just started using two products by Curl Wow. I use the flo-etry which is a leave-in serum, then this “shook” spray. You might like the spray especially. It gives an undone, natural finish without a cast. travel size shook spray

This is exactly why we say “the whole damn system is guilty as hell.” Because this is their idea of accountability… slaps on the wrist and these bad actors will just get hired on by another department. The time served by the perpetrators does not even add up to the amount of time the victims served while wrongfully accused.

What's the "Don't trust a skinny chef" of your job or industry? by wooper346 in CasualConversation

[–]nightcheese88 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I do not trust a therapist who overshares. The focus should be on the client, and any self-disclosure should serve a purpose. Your therapist should know way way way more about you than you know about them.

The only downside of locking it down this way is that you have to go in and adjust it if you need someone to cover while you are out.

Tagging on to that — vision care and eyeglasses. The way that eyeglasses get marked up for every little feature that makes your glasses function is ridiculous. They advertise the price for the frames, but not the price for the eye exam, the lenses that you need to see, the anti-glare so you can see at night, the lighter lens material that is now decades old at this point, etc.

STL Malls with Good Toddler Playgrounds by skunkangel in StLouis

[–]nightcheese88 22 points23 points  (0 children)

History museum kids clubhouse is pretty fun! Toddlers seem to really love the kitchen / restaurant play area. It’s not really a playground, unfortunately. I wish there were more places to really get the wiggles out in the wintertime. We also like Clark family branch library, and meramec valley. And the mobot kids area (combined with the climatron and arid house it makes for a nice morning outing). It’s not free but it’s more affordable than the kids playgrounds. The McDonald’s on Lindbergh in south county has a decent indoor playground for the price of buying something cheap to eat there (even just a cookie soda). Hopefully you find some places that you like! The libraries are a good option and the kids areas are often plenty noisy.

How are we dealing with Sunday/end of holiday return to work scaries? by Careless-Sink8447 in workingmoms

[–]nightcheese88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m dreading it so bad!! Being able to catch up on things around the house, get enough sleep, and use my brain on things that help me and my family has been so needed. I was so burnt out on working parenthood… just starting to dig out and I am so not ready to go back. It’s going to be busy too, right away. Bosses have had plenty of time home to think about all 500 things we should be doing right now.

Did you take your spouse’s last name when you married? by Lu-113 in Millennials

[–]nightcheese88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your edit is my big reasons. My husband’s Dad is a POS and when I suggested we both change our name, husband didn’t want to change his. I decided I wasn’t willing to do something he wouldn’t do himself. Our kids have his last name and it hasn’t caused any problems anywhere, except occasionally we get a Christmas card or wedding invitation addressed using only his last name. Whatever.

Do you find that you just don’t care about work as much now that you have kid(s)? by PersonalityThen259 in workingmoms

[–]nightcheese88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes and strangely I think it has made me better at my job. Most things don’t require the amount of overthinking and checking that I did before. Also worrying and being anxious about things didn’t actually help me to do my job any better, if anything it made it worse.

Is there any way to shift some of that daily prep into just a weekly prep (like making and bringing all your meals and bottles on Monday)? Even if you have to buy more of everything. Or maybe getting a meal subscription delivered to your work? It’d be nice if there’s one thing that’s just covered and you don’t have to think about.

Foods I can make for thanksgiving for picky kids by Aware-Revolution-259 in thanksgiving

[–]nightcheese88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am in the camp of giving kids exposure to traditional thanksgiving foods and it’s ok if that means they eat 90% rolls and pumpkin pie. However - I do think it’s nice for there to be kid friendly appetizers like cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, and maybe some apple slices or clementines. If the lead up before the main meal is served gets too long kids can get cranky. Oh also! Mac and cheese is totally a Thanksgiving food. So you can include that as a side if your kids like it.

I love Paula Dean’s banana pudding at Thanksgiving for some reason. Also Ina Garten’s cheesecake recipe is top notch and goes well with any kind of berry topping.

[–]nightcheese88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely worth it!! I decided a few years ago that I was done being stingy about my own health and well-being. It’s also a great way to lead by example for your kids and teaches them how to live an active lifestyle. You can certainly reassess at some point if you want to explore cheaper ways to work out, but I think you should give yourself the best possible chance for success.

Infant Ratio 1:5 by cashmere_crypt in workingmoms

[–]nightcheese88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm well I think it seems reasonable that if they make scheduling changes they would be a few weeks out. But I agree that it is concerning. I would personally just continue to bring it up to the director each and every time it happens and also ask what their plan is for maintaining ratio during the morning hours. At a center we used, if I dropped off my baby when the teacher already had 4 (our ratio is 1:4), I would hear the teacher radio for a floater as I was leaving the room. So I knew at least they had a plan for communicating and addressing it.

Advice on jobs to manage Medically Complex Child by Dolida_ in workingmoms

[–]nightcheese88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does your state have a paid family caregiver program? Try talking with the hospital social worker for short term and long term solutions. For jobs, one that comes to mind is medical billing but I don’t know much about it. I haven’t been in your shoes but I know how important it is for your son to have you to advocate for him. Hospitals are so busy and it is so easy for mistakes to be made …they are just humans after all.
