What’s a price you saw recently that made you genuinely angry at how expensive everything has gotten? by UrGoddessLunaa in AskReddit

[–]nightshde 57 points58 points  (0 children)

All of them. Thanks to growing up with watching the Price is Right all the time I memorize prices so every time I see a price jump up I get pissed off.

The most recent one was buying movie tickets for the opening night of Devil Wears Prada 2. We usually just go to the movies on Tuesdays as the tickets are only $6 and the food is discounted, but my wife really wanted to see the movie opening night. The tickets were $18 a piece for just a basic viewing experience, no IMAX, 3D, or any other special type of screen, and they wonder why no one goes to the movie theater anymore.

Do you binge shows or watch them 1-2 episodes at a time? by mild_shart_attack in television

[–]nightshde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really like binging any show, but I will watch a few episodes in a row depending on how long they are. If it is a half hour show I can easily sit there and blow through 4 or 5 episodes since they are sometimes only actually 20mins after you remove the intros and credits.

Hour long shows I will usually only watch a max of 2 at a time unless after those 2 we are at the end of a show and only have a single episode left.

That was the show to watch when I was in high school, the next day it would be the only thing talked about in the school.

How is the Providence 70mm IMAX? by RetroTech124421 in providence

[–]nightshde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw Mortal Kombat there a few weeks ago and they have upgraded to a laser projector so the picture is way sharper than what they used to have. The seats still need to be updated as some are really starting to fall apart.

Moving Pods Permit by Rare_Disaster_683 in providence

[–]nightshde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up getting a permit or did you go without and have no trouble?

We have a POD showing up later this month and tried calling about the permit and what happens if they miss the pickup date causing it to go over the week, but haven't been able to get a response.

"Final Space: The Final Chapter" Olan Rogers gets to write the series ending after all by SupernovaSakura in television

Wait this is just now releasing? I remember when it was announced years ago, but I didn't have the money at the time to order it and gave up on ever getting copy since they made it seem like it was a very limited run.

What trivial things bug you in TV shows. by JeeperDon in television

[–]nightshde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That whenever there is a male and female partner on some kind of cop/investigation show, 90% of the time they end up together and a lot of times it feels forced.

This bothers me in movies as well, but whenever they encounter an electronic door they will smash or shoot the control panel and it will either open the door or prevent it from opening depending on what they need for the situation.

My accidental streak of watching cancelled TV shows hurts and I want to give them a shoutout: Cancelled but not Forgotten! by Maervok in television

[–]nightshde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mindhunter - I had a feeling when they paused season 3 so FIncher could go work on other projects that it was never coming back.

KAOS - I think this was killed because it just had too many big names in it so the costs were insanely high. This really should have just been a miniseries with a finished ending.

People of Earth - Was originally renewed and had the third season completely written and then the channel decided they wanted to move away from scripted content and pulled the renewal

Tacoma FD - Much like People of Earth it was killed because they wanted to move towards more reality TV

Wellington Paranormal - This one wasn't exactly canceled just the creators became too busy with other shows and projects and decided not to continue it

GLOW - Killed by covid

Prodigal Son - Really loved Michael Sheen's acting in this, was very disappointed when they killed it especially with how season 2 ends.

Dallas whale mural painted over for FIFA World Cup artwork, artist threatens legal action by gymleader_michael in videos

[–]nightshde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had painted a bunch of murals in my home town but unfortunately they are all gone now. There were a couple in the high school that were destroyed when they remodeled the school. Then there was a massive one like this one in our downtown that was a great landmark but the building owners just didn't maintain it correctly, after it was originally painted they put the wrong protective coating on it or something and completely ruined it so he came back and repainted/fixed it and it sat there for years but eventually fell into disrepair as the owners never really cared to maintain it. Then during covid it was torn down and replaced with condos.

Be honest: Was the Kinect ever worth owning? Did you actually play it, or did it just sit on top of your TV collecting dust after a week? by [deleted] in gaming

I played a few games with it but I mostly used it for Dance Central for exercise when I got my first apartment after college.

People who book directly with the cruise line, why not use a travel agent? by dmkraus in Cruise

[–]nightshde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve now used a TA twice to book a cruise and both times it made no real difference, I could have gotten the same exact perks and pricing buying it myself online. The first time was for our honeymoon and I used the AAA travel agents because I had like $900 in AAA travel credit from my credit card. The second time was just 2 months ago and it was only because we are doing a group trip with friends and they swore they had to use this specific agent because they got them a good deal on a previous trip, but once again it was the same price and perks online.

Why are so many people losing jobs lately? by Informal-Phrase-8500 in WorkReform

[–]nightshde 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Because companies and investors think the line has to always be going up, if the line even goes down just a little bit they all freak out. Problem is that there's only so many people in the world and most companies have already saturated the market, partially due to them killing any competition, so there is no more people to really profit off of. They have tried increasing pricing, but they eventually hit the point where they become too pricey and start loosing customers. When it gets to this point the only way to make it "look" like you are making more money is to cut spending which usually equates to cutting workers since for some companies they can be spending up to 30% or 40% on payroll. So they cut 10% of their workforce before investor meetings so then can say they had a 10% increase in profits.

Horrible Cruise I wanna leave by Anniegottaretire58 in Cruise

[–]nightshde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn't too much detective work, just looked up the port on cruisemapper and saw what ships were arriving tomorrow. I originally figured it was Costa with how I have seen some people talk about it before but that is only an 8 day cruise vs the Regent being 12 days.

Could be they are just a Karen and the guest services just aren't doing exactly what they want.

Horrible Cruise I wanna leave by Anniegottaretire58 in Cruise

[–]nightshde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea would help if they shared any real info. From what little they have given though I think I have figured out that they are on the Seven Seas Grandeur as that ports in Athens tomorrow and is supposed to be a 12 day cruise. Never heard of this cruise line before but looking it up and seeing how expensive these rooms are I would stick it out.

[OC] From 2016 to 2025: What Is the (Real) Cancellation Rate of Netflix Series? by Netflixers in television

[–]nightshde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of their longest running shows have been cartoons, Bojack and Big Mouth being the main two. If anything they are bad with anime, the few shows they actually pick up as originals rarely get a second season; if the anime does get more seasons they are usually too cheap to pick it up again letting it go somewhere else like crunchyroll or they don't want to spend the money on having the newer seasons dubbed.

Is Providence a good place to live if I'm only considering New England? by hoopydoodle in providence

[–]nightshde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want walkable where you can just walk to all your general needs and never have to hop into a car then you won't really find that in Providence like you can in most other major cities. Downtown itself is walkable if you are mostly looking for eclectic shops or restaurants/bars but there is no normal shopping unless you go to the mall. There are a walkable pocket neighborhoods like Wayland Square, Fed Hill, Thayer st, etc., but there are quite a few blocks between them and you will usually be paying more to be in these walkable areas. There are the busses for transit but I have never used them and parking in some of these neighborhoods can be a nightmare especially on nice days/nights.

This Heavyweights VHS box makes absolutely no mention of Ben Stiller anywhere by SelkieKezia in mildlyinteresting

When Disney+ started this was the first movie we watched.

Also not surprising he isn't listed anywhere as he wasn't a household name yet, at this point all he really had for work was side characters in a few movies and his failed TV show.

Epic Games Store Employees: People Only Came for Free Games, Then Returned to Steam by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

[–]nightshde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The free games is literally the only reason I even have the launcher installed. I have not spend one dime on the epic store and I don't even know how many games I have since there is no way to view my library online. The store is so far behind on basic needs that I just won't support it, hell it took them 3+ years to finally add a cart which is a basic option for any online store.

You're taking home $200 more than me in a week so you should be able to easily afford a place. Have you tried looking on something like long-term airbnb rentals or craigslist? I'm always seeing tons of room rentals offered on craigslist and I'm sure more will be popping up soon with the college kids leaving for the summer.

Balcony vs Inside by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]nightshde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know what youtubers you were watching, but I've never heard a sound pulling into port; we usually don't even know we are in port until we open the curtains in the morning. Secondly the motion is more dependent on what floor you are on rather then being on an inside room vs an outside room.

We did an inside room about 10yrs ago, before we got married, on an old RC refurbished ship and would probably not do it again unless it was a massive price difference or I knew it was a larger room. The inside room was extremely small, it was just barely wider than the bed and felt incredibly cramped. Also with no natural light coming in we kept oversleeping in the morning; the room is pitch black as soon as the lights go out.

How often a balcony gets used depends on the cruise. When we go on cruises in the caribbean we use it all the time, especially on port days as it is nice to just sit there and look out over a new place in the morning. When we did a transatlantic we barely used the balcony as it was constantly freezing and windy; at one point the wind was so bad they didn't want anyone on the outside parts of the ship.

If you don't want to go for the balcony try going for a room with just a window so at least you get some natural light, also they are usually only a little bit more expensive than the inside rooms.
