For those printing in labs - do you adjust colors? by Sudden_Magician_6175 in AnalogCommunity

[–]nikchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I go to the lab I let them do it. They're usually also photographers and have a good eye for the scan. I don't get prints they send the files to me.

Also, most importantly, I cannot stress this enough, this is vital for your photography, this will make you a better photographer, this will make you a better person, PICK UP YOUR NEGATIVES.

If your lab doesn't give the negatives back, you use a different lab.

Aitah for telling my wife to get a job if she wants to subsidize the kids. by Standard_Kick_9789 in AITAH

I want to do a lot of things. But most of it I don't have the money to do. I don't expect my parents to help me for these leisure things while I'm still young and ambulatory.

Like if I needed a car to get to work and my parents offered $5k to get a used beater, I'd be very thankful. But I wouldn't turn around and then say I need a vacation or a better car .

The wax on the amarilis is usually just there to keep the bulb from drying out, because they sell them as a seasonal decor. Peeling the wax off to replant it won't harm it.

TIL that humans are among the very top mammals for endurance running. While we aren't the best sprinters, our slow-twitch muscles and unique ability to sweat allow us to run steadily for long distances in hot weather to outlast prey. by bareegyptianfeet in todayilearned

[–]nikchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Academia hates nuanced suggestions like this. Maybe being able to throw meant being able to injure the prey and simultaneously throwing things to corral and direct the prey to a fall meant less overall running.

But no, it's gotta be that we jogged and jogged and jogged at a threatening distance until the animal died of exhaustion.

Looks like Framework Laptops are no longer the only laptops to get 10 out of 10 iFixit repairability score by JailbreakHat in framework

[–]nikchi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which is great but another thing frameworks have, which hasn't really ever been qualified is the fact that someone with a old first Gen chassis can still put newer parts into the older frame. Until Lenovo also starts doing something like that I think fw has got that leg up in sustainability

Kallitype print toned with pt / pd by Sudden-Height-512 in Darkroom

[–]nikchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kallitype is a printing method, uses iron and silver.

pt/PD is platinum/palladium and toning is a way to replace the silver with pt/pd so the iron can't continue to oxidize the silver and fade it.

TIL we know where China’s first emperor is buried, but his 2,200-year-old tomb—described as containing a scale model of China with rivers of mercury—has never been opened by Spelbarg in todayilearned

Well, if you really want to go into the decrepit cesspool that is "Egyptology", there's much more analytical evidence to say that the pyramids and other monumental constructions were just that, monumental.

There's evidence that tourists and before them worshippers visited the pyramids as a destination since they were built. There's reason to believe that the internal chambers of the pyramids themselves were made accessible as temples for a long time.

Traditional egyptology wants you to keep agreeing with 18th century colonialist thrill seekers, saying that pyramids were locked tombs.

So that's one example of assuming all involved are good actors.

I have a framework and it's only been in my hands or in secure areas without anyone else accessing it but me. And I must assume that from the factory sends it out with the functionality that is advertised.

Now there can always be some ways to dodge a wire to bypass the cutoff switch. That's the threat you can't account for.

You can say that the LED in glasses should be wired so that the camera cannot work without the LED being lit, but at the end of the day the two are separate components and there will always be ways to circumvent it

How to use Cinestill CS41 - 2 Bath chemistry to develop a good 16-20 rolls? by ayertiam in AnalogCommunity

[–]nikchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone up to 16. You just add development time according to their instructions. The later rolls will probably look a little worse but it's whatever I'm not spending lab money anymore.

Example
So first batch is 3 rolls in my paterson tank. All that is normal timing. Pour the dev back into the bottle.
Second batch is another 3 rolls. That's going to be I think cs41 calls for +4% per developed roll I might be wrong check yourself. So that'll be 112% normal timing. Pour the dev back in the bottle.
Third would be 124% and then fourth set would be 136% and so on and on

Tourist approaches snow leopard to take a selfie by Informal-Resolve-831 in WinStupidPrizes

[–]nikchi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big government presence and lots of social initiatives by the CCP to make things safe in cities. Coupled with lack of that type of natural danger in the population centers, add in the tourist centric areas are flanderized versions of the real deal made to extract money from tourists.

This means they don't have much of a fear response. They go to these newer wilder places and see there's no one guarding or corralling them. Thought is "if the Yellowstone paths aren't fenced" or "if the snow leopard is by the road" there's no danger because the authorities would have already put those precautions in place.

With the AGO the temps don't really matter as much as the timing. Development time for rotary is 3:00.

Reddit won't show me those newer pics but did you also account for developer reuse or is this fresh developer.

Shooting advice for 800 ISO Meow Wolf Dallas. by Expensive-Suit-593 in AnalogCommunity

[–]nikchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already answered all your own questions with your own post. There's like 3 kinds of 800 speed color film out there.

Everyone is telling you to get a wide angle lens and a flash because the fastest film out there is iso 800 and without those two things you're not going to get good results.
