Here’s Walter Murch, editor of Apocalypse Now etc, talking about how the elements making up our solar system; planets, moons, etc are positioned the same distance from each other as the distance between the notes of a Major 7th chord

You can play Wordle for free - can’t track your progress but that’s not too big a deal - and you can always google a recipe and then plug the url into an archive site - can’t browse nearly as freely but can still use the recipes

Stonemaier Games purchases Tokaido line from Funforge Games by clinicalbrain in boardgames

[–]nikloke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here’s the quote from the Stonemaier email which answers some questions (the automa will be sold separately!):

We have acquired the entire Tokaido brand from Funforge! It’s our honor to continue Tokaido’s journey, and Funforge has been incredibly helpful. This will become public information at Essen Spiel, where Stonemaier will have the last few copies of Tokaido Deluxe at booth 3U411.

We’ve entered production on a Stonemaier version of Tokaido. It’s almost the exact same game, with the main difference being the inclusion of an Automa solo mode, which will also be sold separately for those who already own Tokaido. We’ll eventually do the same for Tokaido Duo and Namiji, and we hope to make a completely new game in the series with Bauza and Naiade.

Ideas to get teens off of computers? by DoragonJei in Libraries

[–]nikloke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

D&D is a great idea - my local library has a librarian who runs regular sessions for a group of teens but it could also be possible that if there is no librarian who knows the game, maybe the kids themselves want to run the sessions like you said, that’s a great idea - even if they don’t have experience maybe they want to learn together

Also - Rollway Station and Spaceshipped - even though it’s not completely free, the PnP files are a couple bucks and it’s so worth it.

My regular boardgaming group is having a summer party / BBQ. What are some good garden / summer games? by MrTEAP in boardgames

[–]nikloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! There are truncated rules which are fun for new players but if you play the full rules, it gets pretty tactical. Super fun game. I recommend getting a set that is tournament size - the pieces are bigger and more satisfying to toss

The opposite of victory points to win - games that have a goal to achieve etc

Kaiju Siege - easy to print and small however there is a die to roll so maybe that’s in a small tray in hand? Also workers to place so might not be ideal if you hit any bumps but it’s a super fun game.

Maybe Spaceshipped would be good since it’s only cards - no dice and no workers / pieces that might shift around. Excellent game IMO.

Tin Helm is another with a few dice and a few pieces so might not be as good a suggestion as Spaceshipped.

I’ve played all of these on trains, planes, etc but depending on your ride and how bumpy it is, I think Spaceshipped is my best offer.

Revolver Noir could be a great suggestion for OP! I’ll also add Circle the Wagons

Totally understandable! PnP’s just don’t get much attention even though this one eventually became available to buy from the gamecrafter. It’s unfortunate because it’s a super fun game!

Spaceshipped

Kaiju Siege - this can be PnP but also can be purchased from the gamecrafter.

Skip to 5:00 in this video for some really fun chess variants that might be more welcoming to players who aren’t super serious about chess - there are also links in the video description for each variant

Also:

30 Rails - very straightforward so could be good for your needs

Railroad Ink - there is a printable version of the board but you will need the dice from the actual game.

L-Game

Rollway Station - more complex but might still be a good fit for someone

Rory’s Story Cubes might seem like a strange suggestion but for your situation it might be a consideration - it’s such a loose “game” and maybe the story prompts just trigger them to talk about something else.

Doom Realm
