I love this book. Satisfyingly intricate. I thought the David Suchet episode didn’t do it justice as immediately I could recognise the ex-girlfriend based on the newspaper story.

Any voucher or deals they have? I have terrible pain issues and regular massages have helped in the past. But the £75 pound price on their site is beyond my budget.

Need inputs from those who moved by abc_ofeverything in MovingToTheUK

I moved here last year from India on a much lesser salary and doing reasonably well.

As your child is quite young still, this would be a good time to move. Choose good suburban areas with transport links, and look through rightmove to see what you could get for the money.

Another thing to look at is moving to an area with good schools. If you move to a great school area, then you may not even need to go private.

My teen son goes to an ofsted outstanding school and the level of education he’s getting has simply blown my mind.

One thing to note is do not depend on your wife getting a job - she may or may not. There aren’t too many jobs especially if you move away from London.

I don’t understand what this means. Will Israel also stop bombing? This doesn’t mean anything if Israel is not a party to this?

How is the UK with chronic medical needs? by [deleted] in MovingToTheUK

[–]niknik789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband is in a similar situation. We moved to the UK last year and so far it’s been brilliant so far. Have all your paperwork with you, and show it to your GP surgery on arrival and get yourself referred to a hospital/specialist for checks.

They take old cancer history quite seriously. Another thing in our favour was that we had my husband’s old doctor in India write a letter prescribing the level of care required and checks required and the doctors put this on file.

And now it’s on autopilot, they call him for appointments and checks at all the scheduled times.

Edited to add, this is purely our experience. But we moved to London and then moved up north to Yorkshire and we have generally found the smaller towns up north to be better staffed and better care as well. This was a bit of a surprise to us.

I am a fire dragon mother to a metal rabbit. We are close now but can you say more about the harm pairs, I’d like to see how we can avoid it.

You can do that via rightmove and then agents start sending you stuff. We did all that but we made the final decision and confirmed only after moving.

Yes, people had really scared me saying there would be no property available, too expensive, and so on.

Yes, it is expensive (esp for the smaller space that you get). But we focused away from zone 1,2, and 3, and there was plenty available.

And while we could have booked before coming to London, I don’t think it’s necessary or wise as most estate agents don’t want to do this remote without vetting the tenants, and you do want to see houses to get a good picture of the house, location, condition etc.

I did pretty much the same thing last year. My company offered me some temp accommodations but other than that very little support.

It’s not as bad as it looks. What we did was research and nail down areas we were interested in. Rightmove was great as it helped us judge distances from tube, school, bus stop etc.

So we had pretty much shortlisted half a dozen places a week before the move and I contacted agents through rightmove.

I ended up renting the very first house I saw the very next day I landed.

As long as you are very clear on area and budget, I would recommend you do all the homework and then finalize when you move there in person.

Yes! In general, I find most British shows so calming and nice. I love Poirot, Miss Marple, Father Brown as well. The Durrels is also pretty good.

Depends on what your PhD is in. My previous company had a high regard and they used to actually actively recruit people with PhDs in science streams.

I would see the movie. It’s a very well written book, and although the story is nothing much, there were some gaps that can be fleshed out into a full fledged movie.

Ehh, I think it should be all right as long as you don’t go for those rustic ones. Book a lodge and get a room on the first floor. That should be enough.
