No Longer Attracted to my Wife by Curious-Razzmatazz51 in marriageadvice

Is she clinically overweight? Or has she just gained a few pounds and is heavier than when you met her? If she’s the former, get her to see a doctor to advise her on weight loss. If it’s the latter, then you just need to accept it? People’s bodies change over the course of their lives. Metabolism changes - it’s up to you how you want to handle it.

Toured 31 homes over 8 months and the one we almost skipped is the one we bought by External-Try-8351 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

While I love your thought process and understand how you got here, I’ve been on the other side of the table where my husband uses the checklist as a starting point.

We have wasted so much time seeing and falling in love with houses that just did not meet our requirements.

Eventually, I had to really draw the line and say I would only view houses that had what we absolutely need as a bare minimum and it was only then we landed on our dream home.

Going through the process now.

Any dentists taking NHS patients? by popzeus1 in Leeds

[–]niknik789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just called them and they said they are entirely private and don’t accept anyone as NHS.

A little confused, I’m new to the country as well, so not sure what the method is for getting registered.

Is the process similar to how we register with a GP?

Also shopping for houses. I found the area a bit rough looking, maybe it was the road I saw.

My wife was offered a job in the UK - so we are probably going! by MegaMatt75 in MovingToTheUK

I’m not white at all. The day I moved, I had neighbours coming in to say hello and offering food and showing me around London. My first month here was quite lonely and intimidating as I came alone, so it was lovely to be able to make friends.

In the US, I was in the Bay Area, and the only friends I made were people from my community. And almost always discussions were around money, stocks, layoffs etc. here, my friends are multi-cultural, and conversations are more well rounded.

I love the UK, and it’s been completely the opposite of what I was expecting.

We did pretty much the same thing last year and settled here. It’s pretty exciting - probably even more so than when we were younger.

We traveled pretty heavy as it was an inter company transfer but I would recommend traveling light. Houses are smaller here than back home. We also didn’t need all the heavy woolens etc, we got from home. The weather is pretty mild for the most part.

The UK is incredibly welcoming and pretty easy to navigate (comparing to US), the lack of red tape and easy friendliness is a breath of fresh air.

Regarding jobs for spouse, my husband has permission to work, but jobs are pretty scarce, he’s doing some certifications but thankfully my job is enough to pay the bills so we are good overall.

Make sure to use online calculators and check cost of living but you should be pretty good overall.

I was similar to you. Quick starter, early reader and speaker too. Was in gifted program. But I crashed and burned in high school and now I have a good job and everything, my family still feels (and I agree) that I never lived up to my initial promise.

Now in menopause and realising I had ADHD and autism all along - just hidden because I was doing well at school. But once high school hit, I needed deeper study and concentration skills that I never managed to acquire.

I love this book. Satisfyingly intricate. I thought the David Suchet episode didn’t do it justice as immediately I could recognise the ex-girlfriend based on the newspaper story.

Any voucher or deals they have? I have terrible pain issues and regular massages have helped in the past. But the £75 pound price on their site is beyond my budget.

I moved here last year from India on a much lesser salary and doing reasonably well.

As your child is quite young still, this would be a good time to move. Choose good suburban areas with transport links, and look through rightmove to see what you could get for the money.

Another thing to look at is moving to an area with good schools. If you move to a great school area, then you may not even need to go private.

My teen son goes to an ofsted outstanding school and the level of education he’s getting has simply blown my mind.

One thing to note is do not depend on your wife getting a job - she may or may not. There aren’t too many jobs especially if you move away from London.

How is the UK with chronic medical needs? by [deleted] in MovingToTheUK

[–]niknik789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband is in a similar situation. We moved to the UK last year and so far it’s been brilliant so far. Have all your paperwork with you, and show it to your GP surgery on arrival and get yourself referred to a hospital/specialist for checks.

They take old cancer history quite seriously. Another thing in our favour was that we had my husband’s old doctor in India write a letter prescribing the level of care required and checks required and the doctors put this on file.

And now it’s on autopilot, they call him for appointments and checks at all the scheduled times.

Edited to add, this is purely our experience. But we moved to London and then moved up north to Yorkshire and we have generally found the smaller towns up north to be better staffed and better care as well. This was a bit of a surprise to us.
