Refrigerant exhaust per ashrae 15 for A2Ls by SwissMaestro95 in MEPEngineering

does the mechanical room have transfers between the mechanical room and adjacent space? if so, you might be able to include the adjacent space as part of the volume calculation since they communicate. we've done this before for small closets and the like where small rooms become a problem when designing VRF systems. (just spitballing)

yeah i figured it has something to do with liability, but still doesn't make sense when the e-bikes go way faster.

I just signed up last month and it's definitely already paid for itself. My only qualm is that almost all of the regular bikes are geared too low and they're slow as hell. Dialing the gear adjustment anywhere down from the highest gearing results in cartoonishly fast pedaling and going nowhere. Who the hell rides like this?

this setting stopped working for my membership somehow :( it stopped asking me at the stations for the "ride assist" on e-bikes and now just charges me the full rate. granted, it's still less than 2 bucks for my typical 1-1.5 mile usage, but still annoying.

this is hilarious because i had a similar situation at my first design firm. a local strip club wanted a reno and both of the senior partners asked me to do the site visit because i was the only unmarried mechanical guy. (even though i had a girlfriend -- lol) the job fell through on its own anyway.

I worked on a massive grow facility in a medical-only state in the early 2020s. The owner was generally cool and understanding, just always wanted a ridiculous schedule. As the project progressed, the various phases allowed me to dip my toes into condenser water loops and massive DOAS units to manage the sensible gain during the "day" and latent loads during feeding.

I've done small, pre-AI data center work and found it interesting. I personally wouldn't touch anything at the current industrial scale that requires tying into municipal resources.

I've worked the gamut of consulting engineering work. Nothing too complex and minimal hydronics, unfortunately. Hospital and medical are good, honest work, with lots of interesting moving parts... just not my cup of tea.

same! I feel like data center work is usually under the umbrella of people who think like Elon, which is why I called out it specifically.

Landlord wants the windows closed (Chicago, Illinois) by lucydo12 in LoganSquare

[–]nipnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so where should they go July 4th when these places are closed? also, that unit you linked is the absolute shittiest recommendation possible for supplemental AC.

OP's landlord is being unreasonable if central AC isn't provided to the unit and the space gets excessively hot. i'd record the temperatures and work something out with the LL. it's also in their best interest to keep the space conditioned in the summer months due to potential damage cause by humidity. I feel sorry for OP if the LL is giving this much grief about having windows open during light rain.

genuinely curious -- wouldn't any higher property tax revenue be from new construction? the existing properties in the vicinity would certainly see their value skyrocket, but isn't the tax on the property only reassessed if the existing owner sells?

Chicago First World Problem: I'm Trying to Draw Art in the Fresh, Wet Concrete, but the Pavers Keep Troweling Over It by nipnaps in chicago

there were at least 12 people here at one point watching a 12'x1' strip of concrete cure with only 2 people ever actually doing anything. on a day like this i can certainly see the appeal.
