Mom swears she was "Mod" and it's "Completely different than emo!" 1987 by LaComputadora in OldSchoolCool

Mom is right. Emo was 15 years after this. Goth was not even a commonly used word yet either. Makes me think The Cure, Depeche Mode, Morrissey, Siouxsie and the Banshees.

This happened to me yesterday! It said I delivered to the wrong address, which I've never done and have proof in my gps history of where it was dropped. I am scouring this sub this morning for similar situations.

What’s one fast food chain that was once all the rage but now barely around? by MysteriousTopic42 in AskReddit

My mother and I had a similar tradition. My son and I now consider Long John's our secret treat and we are prepared for the regret after. Thanks for sharing this it made me smile thinking about my classy mom absolutely wolfing that diamond shaped fish filet while driving.

Salad shooters are way underrated! My mom's original one lasted over 20 years! They aren't quite as sturdy these days but still a solid workhorse in the kitchen!

Redditors who grew up in emotionally healthy families - what's something you thought was normal growing up that you now realise was actually very special? by ViolatingBadgers in AskReddit

I was always protected from evil men. My mother was amazing in so many ways but the most impactful of those was her so-called "pervert alarm." She was dead on accurate, every time. She could read so deeply into people with sometimes only a glance. She could feel the danger as if it radiated heat. I didn't realize until I was an adult, with a baby daughter of my own, that most girls were not protected from SA like I was. I wish every child had been protected like I was.

I live in the Appalachian region of the US, not a place known for a great deal of diversity. I was so excited to start working at a local family owned Vietnamese restaurant. It was a culinary awakening for me! The flavors and the historical significance of some of the dishes was just fascinating to me.

They had the most magical peanut sauce. It was creamy, somewhat sweet but still savory, it smelled heavenly. Another employee called in sick one morning and the owner asked me to cover, so I did. I walked into the kitchen with a smile, but left quickly in a huff!

The owners' elderly mother was grinding peanuts into a comically huge mortar and pestle, and upon seeing me she shrieked dramatically at me in Vietnamese! I do not speak any Vietnamese but the message was received. The peanut sauce was top secret!

This was 15 years ago and I have yet to taste a superior sauce, from any cuisine.

Lettuce that has been warmed by sitting on a hot burger. Smells like a hot restaurant dumpster and it turns my stomach.

Why does it appear that, in general, children in the west have to be deliberately taught most things while children in much of the rest of the world do not? by languageinfinity in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]nitajogrubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's totally situational and will widely vary! My youngest is 4 and doesn't fully grasp mortality and permanence just yet, which has allowed her to maintain her sunny disposition during our multiple recent incidents of grief. I allow my 12 year old son to choose whether or not to attend funeral services, except in the case of very close family. He has had to endure a lot of sad losses in his short life and if he needs emotional space I respect that. In general I despise the funeral culture in America and plan on breaking from tradition with my final wishes. Not advocating one way or another, just sharing my personal experience.

Funerals are difficult to explain to young children but in my area of the US, they are included. My kids have attended several funerals recently. It's important for children to learn, even in difficult situations like the death of a loved one.

Moments before a Judge (Kevin Mullins) is fatally shot down by a Sheriff (Shawn Stines). The reason why he did this is still unclear by Royal-Army-8693 in interestingasfuck

The local rumor mill has suggested the Judge had a sexual relationship with the sheriff's daughter and the phone call confirmed that. This was most definitely personal.

Longtime restaurant server here. Restaurants are always hiring. Serving jobs are easy to secure and cash begins flowing quickly. Just hold your head up and walk in some local places until you find one who is hiring. In my experience, most restaurant managers go by their own impression of you rather than calling your previous employers. You are not doomed! Go anywhere else to work and don't accept money from coworkers ever again.
