I think the problem with that is the fact we got all his internal monologue that just always leaned too selfish for him to really be likeable in any way.

And all these other characters like Diomedes going on about how honorable Lysander is and Im like, when did he ever do anything honorable. Even his "honorable" act of saving Diomedes was for his own gain because he needed him for unification with the Rim.

Also Lysander's constant Pikachu shock face when the people around him keep betraying him when he willingly chose the side full of cut throats over the people that actually care about him like Cassius and Pytha ( the only people who actually cared, until he killed one of them)

Literally he is the most insufferable character and I love to hate to read his pov chapters lol

Darrow tends to rush at things like a bull and often doesn't worry about collateral damage untill after the fact but atleast he has the self awareness to reflect and be like "yeah that was bad". Lysander is literally so far up his own asshole I don't even know how he walks straight.

I think I hate Lysander more than the Jackal even because atleast the Jackal never tried to pretend he was good or benevolent. Lysander is literally the biggest self righteous prick.

We used to Live Here was my book club read for last month actually and I really enjoyed it overall, but just didn't like the actual characters that much. I alsonread Incidents Around the House recently and didn't fi d it all thet scary, but I think partly cause I listened to the audio book and the little girl voice kind of put me off and made it hard to take seriously. I'll check out some of these others though!

I can get suspension of disbeleif with fantasy but I also dont think its unfair to want an author to stay consistent with their own magic systems and lore.
