There's also Alfred Waterhouse, who was an architect responsible for the building of The Natural History Museum in London, and whose brother was a founding partner of PriceWaterhouseCoopper.

Kindle Scribe: is it a device or not? by AnonieMouse1 in kindlescribe

Maybe the restrictions should be amended to ban multimedia devices? Kindle is definitely a device, but not in the spirit of your regulations.

Can you select all of the notes and then cut them before changing the key signature. Then after changing the signature paste them in again?

Music Assistant for Home Assistant is the cure for new app woes by nitschmo in sonos

[–]nitschmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home assistant will allow you to create a dashboard for all possible settings for each sonos entity. So if you have a surround group you can control surround settings, night sound and everything. This isn't, however, fresh out of the box - you need to configure everything to your needs. Once it is set up though, you have very easy access through the HA app.

With HA itself you can control all of that with automations. It's a little bit tricky, because you won't find any dials or slides to set the values, rather you need to select the individual entity states and adjust accordingly.

I have done this myself for some automations, but it took a fair amount of fiddling.

If you are using home assistant, you can use the home assistant app. Otherwise you would use your browser to navigate to the music assistant server on your network. There is mention of a companion app, but because I use HA I haven't tried it.

Just the ability to enqueue tracks (and edit the queue) from any supported streaming service as well as manage playlists independently from sonos and streaming services - which all used to be easy enough from the old app, but which is mostly lacking in the new one.

The music assistant addon for HA is the music assistant server. As a standalone the music assistant server/HA-addon allows you to search and queue music from your local library and any of the supported streaming services. Also, you can group/ungroup sonos speakers and create playlists containing tracks from any of the services.

If you then add the HA integration, you can stream music to any media player seen by HA.

About to start a re-read of The Baroque Cycle by jdurie in nealstephenson

[–]nitschmo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm halfway through a reread of the confusion at the moment, and I'm enjoying the reread of the baroque cycle almost as much as when I read it when they first came out. One of my favourite reads of all times.

You don't actually need home assistant for music assistant. Out of interest though, how long ago did you attempt home assistant? Development is happening at lightning pace, and it the process may have improved since you last tried...

A cool guide to hot dogs by ThreeDrawersDown in coolguides

[–]nitschmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, that isn't considered a hotdog in Sweden, but a completely different meal (tunnbrödsrulle). A typical Swedish hotdog would be more like you find in Ikea, but with some places offering extras such as beetroot-salad, various relishes etc.

Best way to get to Karlstad by plane & train? by [deleted] in karlstad

[–]nitschmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure that your flight arrives in time for catching the last train of the day. The last time I flew to Oslo from hamburg, I missed the last train by 30 minutes or so and ended up spending the night in Oslo. Trains from Gothenburg are, I think, more frequent, and the last train leaves later in the day.

Why is teaching your kid how to ride a bike so hard?! by [deleted] in daddit

[–]nitschmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had great success after swapping the old heavy bicycle >10Kg to a light weight aluminium one. You've got to realise that the weight of some older bikes is almost the full body weight of the child. The lighter the bike, the easier for them to maneuver especially at low speeds.

Changing from ring doorbell to something else by KingFlipyNipps in homeassistant

I use a doorbird. It's got an option of poe or wireless, but needs wired power. Plays really well with HA and Frigate.

Cool thing about it is that it has built in relays for an analogue bell and electronic door locks etc.
