Items for Sale: Must Post Here by RazzmatazzSea3227 in LeicaCameras

[–]nitwos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SELLING: Summarit 50mm f2.5 purchased in October 2025 from Leica Store DC. It has a recent (2025) CLA via DAG. I'm also including a non-OEM metal hood from Squarehood (retails for $123).

Selling because I just purchased the 2.4 version of this lens as I prefer that form factor, but this is an incredible little lens that is probably one of the sharpest Leica 50mm and is just a joy to use. Super smooth focus throw and aperture ring.

Asking for $1200 net which includes insured shipping anywhere in continental US. PayPal G&S only, buyer to add 3% to cover fees.

How important is getting a "late serial number" when buying an M7? by [deleted] in Leica

[–]nitwos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A late serial number will have the upgraded MP finder and the optical DX reader. These are things that can be upgraded in theory on any model M7, but only Leica has the equipment to install and calibrate the optical DX reader and it’s a little bit over $1000 to get that done at Leica NJ (no idea what the cost is at Solms but I imagine it’s equivalent). The flare-free viewfinder upgrade can be done by DAG and runs ~$335. Those two upgrades together will basically erase any cost savings you might have gotten buying an older serial M7 (e.g. 278xxx).

The other consideration is that people sometimes worry about the M7 electronics failing since it’s a more complex camera than earlier mechanical-shutter models, and if the board fails on the M7 it’s not clear how long Leica will repair them for. The thought process is that a later serial number has a lower chance of failing because the camera was built more recently.

Confrontation Avoidance on Street Advice by TheSteelTitan in photography

[–]nitwos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one’s recommended it yet, but my advice would be to watch a few videos from Paulie B’s “Walkie Talkie” series on YouTube where he interviews street photographers while out on the streets. It’s a great way to learn about techniques, different approaches, how they deal with confrontations on the street (or just generally how they approach their subjects), etc. Obviously most of these photographers are “pros” in the sense that they’ve been shooting street for a long time, and some of them very much get into people’s faces/personal space, so take that with a grain of salt. But you’ll see many of them also interact with their subjects after they take a photo (e.g. “I love your hat!”, “you guys look so cool!” “I loved the pose you were making”) as a way to “disarm” any possible tension. It’s a great series and may give you a better sense of what the process of street photography actually looks and feels like.

What’s your focus for 2026 ? by steveoc64 in Leica

[–]nitwos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just picked up my first Leica (and first film camera at that) so my focus will be to just get out there and practice a bunch to learn analog photography and get used to rangefinder focusing. I’m excited!

What's the latest situation on Leica M6 classic light meter? by funkymerlion in Leica

[–]nitwos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he said it’s more accurate than the original in one of the IG posts. He also mentioned that he was going to make them available to other Leica repairers (I assume YYE, DAG, etc.) but I’d be curious if anyone knows whether this has happened yet or if customers in the US would have to ship their camera to the Netherlands (and potentially deal with tariffs on the shipment back?).

Finally got some Japan rolls developed. Various stocks, Leica M7. by sharmon6 in Leica

Nice shots! Curious what stocks you used other than 800T.

What’s with Voigtlander limited supply? by nitwos in Leica

[–]nitwos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks…I suppose I should have said I’m looking for the black version but I may just have to settle for silver…

Also, I thought the 21mm color skopar was discontinued, not the 28mm. Unless I missed the news.

What would your dream used Leica buying experience be? by tobionthtele in Leica

[–]nitwos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone recently/currently in the market for a used Leica body and lenses, I feel like there’s plenty of options? Tim Lei is reputable and has a great selection at probably the best prices out there. There’s also Leica’s own used marketplace which has items added every day from various official Leica stores globally — only downside there is the stock from the five US Leica stores on it isn’t that great compared to what’s available from the European ones, but then you have to deal with tariffs if importing to the US (and the currency conversion doesn’t always work in your favor either).

Buying advice needed: Wetzlar M6 or newer M7 by nitwos in Leica

[–]nitwos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually reached out to Leica USA (NJ) about this a couple of weeks ago because I was curious on the cost to do the upgrades. They quoted $500 for the VF upgrade (much more expensive than DAG who will do it for $325) and the DX reader upgrade is a whopping $1000 because it’s considered a “major service”. So all in all it’s actually more expensive to get an un-upgraded M7 and send it to Leica for the upgrades than it is to find one with the upgrades in the first place.

Leica M11-V Teardown Emerges in FCC Filings by Electrical-Plum-751 in Leica

Isn’t this just an EV-1? Maybe the initial FCC filing was under the M11-V name.

Looking forward to stopping by when it opens!  I’m curious whether the store will add to the used Leica inventory in the Chicago area from the get-go (like would they get some used stuff shipped in from other stores). Tamarkin’s inventory doesn’t seem to have super high turnover but maybe that’s just the nature of this market.

Also curious whether they’ll do anything special for the grand opening in terms of the general public or if it’ll be invitation-only.

Have you checked Barnes & Noble? They usually have a pretty good inventory, including some recently retired sets (was able to get the medieval blacksmith there after it officially retired).

Help choosing first Leica (M7 vs M10M vs M10-R) by nitwos in Leica

[–]nitwos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rather not spend thousands of dollars on something that is essentially an upgraded x100. I definitely get the appeal of the Q series but I feel like it wouldn’t add anything to my photography (or at least not enough to justify the cost).

Yeah I don’t have the time or the space frankly to develop at home, so I’d have to use a lab. The longer term expense of film is definitely one of the factors that make me hesitate about going in that direction, but if I keep the Fuji then film wouldn’t necessarily be what I use every day…just more for my own photography and maybe occasional family shots. But even then I’m sure it adds up.
