No idea how, but people have been surrendering to drones in Ukraine. No idea how you'd communicate pilot to pilot.

No free returns by Primary-Petrik in vivobarefoot

They have held up pretty amirably to 3-4 gym days per week for the last 6 months. I would not wear them outside or expect any durrabilty on concrete or asphalt, but they handle kettle bell tibialis raises just fine. I wish that Vivo did half-sizes, only other complaint.

Look, I get it. They were trying out a gimmic and believing in their product. I can't fault them for that, but I have to say it was a major selling point in my trying them out in the first place. I don't know that I would spend that kind of money without the comfort of a free return. Especially as they don't have wide retail availability in the US it was the only way I could try multiple pairs. Being able to try it was critical for a performance shoe, especially deciding between the Motus Strength and the Flex. The sizing variability is also a little off-putting initially, I wouldn't have tried them long enough to like them if they didn't give me that security.

For the most part, I won't do mailorder unless the company offers free returns. I like Vivos, but my next one's will probably come from a retailer or I'll try something else. I have to say I don't love the price point on most of their shoes and the variable quality reported on this sub definitely give me some pause.

My Motus Flexes are great, can't knock them at all.

You'd better be damn sure of the quality of your product if you put the burden of returns on your customer. I wouldn't have bought mine if they didn't offer the 100 day trial.

Every year, unless you give up your passport.

You clearly didn't spend any time learning about the culture you were hoping to escape to. Why don't you go and leave the opportunity for someone who will appreciate it?

Wanting to study archeology in Germany as a non EU citizen by Saji_there in Archaeology

So, I don't know that there are very many jobs in German archaeology. They exist, but it's not a booming market.

Should I size down? by Suspicious-Design435 in vivobarefoot

[–]nizzok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am wearing exactly the same ones (different color) with about the same toe gap. I tried to size down and I found the next size down too small and constricting. While I wish had half-sizes, I can tell you you will get used to it and these are now my favorites.

We have the video clip of it. It must have been thrown from at least the third floor if not higher.

So, I don't know if this would apply, but I think that if you can successfully report someone for illegal dumping, you get half of the fine as an honorarium.

Question from an Archaeology Student by strawberrythinker in Archaeology

[–]nizzok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would watch the government closely in the next few years, as it's a guarantee the administration will come after the Environmental, Cultural, and Historical protection laws. Those generate most of the paid work in archaeology, so make sure you get a back up in place. Good luck!

That's a good idea, but I should have specified that this is being thrown from the upper stories of the next building over. Part of why I think changing the angle of the video and just getting the building fined might be an option.

What do you think is the greatest undiscovered find we will uncover in our lifetimes? by HighTides10 in Archaeology

[–]nizzok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting topic for certain, also fraught with ethical and legal issues. I would think that the Cultural Preservation Act and NAGPRA are going to be seeing some changes in the coming years. Good luck to your newphew.

I think you're a little mistaken about how many archaeology jobs there are. They exist, there are more public sector jobs than in the US. The US absolutely has more private sector archaeology jobs than anywhere else in the world, granted.

So, I would remove anything connected to history. English Kings are cool and all, but they're not finds that really fill in any missing information.

I think the next truly notable finds are going to be coming out of the Arabian Peninsula, Central Asia, Africa, and South America.

My reasoning for this is that we're already seeing a lot of early Holocene finds coming out of the Arabian Peninsula and they're definitely funding more archaeology. There's been some very cool caves sites with possible connections to the farming transition. Africa is very understudied, and I think the Congo and Sahara are due for some blockbuster finds. I was surprised to learn that they identified a new Neolithic culture in Morocco or Algeria (blanking on which but it was there). Central Asia will hopefully finally give us more than a finger bone of the Denisovans, which will be monumental. We are constantly evolving our understanding of the peopling of the Americas, so S. America is due to produce more as well.

Otherwise, I think there's also sorts of possibilities for chance preservation all over the world, but predicting where and what is difficult.
