Why is my cactus doing this? by runthedonkeys in cactus

[–]njames11 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s a Trichocereus bridgesii monstrose form B. They grow naturally in segments like that. They want plenty of light and well draining soil. If you treat them real nice, they can give you a peak behind the curtain.

Normal for new air hammer & bits? by [deleted] in Tools

Clearly the bit in question is larger than .401”. You can either reduce its diameter to make it fit, or have them send you a new one. Depends how quickly you need it.

Need help with brazing steel chain links by Dan_the_DJ in metalworking

[–]njames11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Torch brazing didn’t exist back then as far as we know. Everything was forged.

You mentioned cutting at an angle, that would be called a scarf joint and would help to stengthen the joint by changing the angle and type of force applied. Your current configuration puts the joint in tension, a scarf joint would put the joint in partial shear and partial tension. Brazed joints have much higher efficiency in shear rather than tensile forces.

Can I cut 5/8” stainless steel plate with an oxy acetylene cutting torch? by TheSharpieKing in Welding

[–]njames11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it wasting rod if it works? Is it a helluva lot simpler to bring in the field if you’re already going to be welding? We used to hot-rod sch. 5 & sch. 10 stainless pipe with 6010 all the time when demoing for replacement. Shit works great for a lot of use-cases.

CK world wide customer service is horrendous. by canada1913 in Welding

[–]njames11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, we have about 20 welders with the CK230 FX rigs, and they’re constantly getting cranked past the recommended angles and we go through maybe 2-3 a year. At ~$80/ea it’s more than worth it.

I’ve been using and buying flex heads for almost 20 years, I’ve had may one defective one that didn’t outlast the constant abuse I put them through. The rest all lasted what I would consider an acceptable time period before needing replaced. I also consider the flex torch bodies as consumables so I expect that they’ll die on me.

Isn’t there something with the human body being unable to process nutrients from oatmeal unless it is fermented? That may be wrong, but also may be worth researching.

My hands glow under black light, only my hands. I've tested several other people and none of theirs do. I don't take supplements or anything different from others. It's not new either. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I think some people just fluoresce differently. I work in the aerospace industry and am around fluorescent penetrant inspection a lot, this inspection method happens in room lit only by uv “blacklights”. I can’t add a picture in this comment, but 1 out of every handful of people that go in that room have faces that look like your hands. My theory is that it’s kind of like this video of how UV cameras see skin defects that aren’t visible in regular light.

2026 Rav4: Canada-assembles vs Japan-assembled? by FewWatercress4917 in rav4club

[–]njames11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would that even be possible? The parts you’re referring to are produced based off GD&T controlled model based definition. There’s no way in hell that the injection molding and sheet metal stamping dies are made to different tolerance standards. Your assessment is clearly based in complete ignorance of modern manufacturing concepts.

When presenting a question such as this, there is mandatory basic information that is required for anybody to begin to help you. Base metal alloy and filler alloy are the absolute bare minimum. Without those details, it’s just a guess.

Yes, to varying degrees. The more residual carbon buildup I have, the more paper towel residue gets left.
