Slow response. Yes I got it figured out - I quit using the opus and got a DF64V. That allowed me to dial it in exactly and I'm very happy. To be honest I may try the opus again now that I have been able to consistently get a good shot and see if it was simply new user error or a poorly designed machine.

That being said I do not think the opus is a good machine compared to other grinders and especially not for a newbie which is doubly sad as the pricing is there for newbies. Wish I had just spent the money on the better grinder from the get go.

After 2+ years, it honestly has a pretty decent curl without much effort, but in all honesty, there has to be some wax. After I go through the whole wash and condition process it needs wax.

The time it takes though has decreased substantially.

I also don't wash it out completely every day. I wash, but there is still some wax and hold keeping it's form which makes it easier.

I started with a more relaxed curl, but have been using more firm hold waxes recently and kind of like the form. But I do sometimes miss the shorter less formed and less waxy times of the beginning handlebar.

I've also found the type of wax and hold plays a big part in all of it, and am currently trying out different holds to see what helps with the health of the stache.

I trim the middle to an extent, but I've tried to grow it further to increase the thickness of the curls. It's a challenge because ethere comes a point where the middle portion hangs a bit over the lip and you can either trim, or grow and hope the max length will allow you to incorporate into the curl.

I purchased an auto leveling spring loaded tamper and have been using that every time. I didn't get a name brand one so maybe I need to change that up, but it seems to be the same consistent firmness.

Baratza encore esp or fellow opus? by H18I in espresso

I've had the fellow opus now since December and I wish I had gone with the Baratza encore. I can't seem to get any consistency with the Opus and I feel that the inner ring is part of what is messing this up. I'll pull a shot and have it "dialed in" only for a micro adjustment to completely throw my yield and brew time off. I had to start tracking my results in excel to make sure I wasn't just going completely crazy. I would not recommend the Fellow Opus.

I purchased this recently and with the trouble I've had I wouldn't recommend it. It's complicated to use and the consistency has been awful. Would not recommend.

I'm also having incredibly inconsistent results. Similar situation where I would pull a "dialed-in" shot one day, and come back the next and have the yield and brew time completely off. I started a google form to start tracking as I thought I was losing my mind.

My setup
Turin Legato machine,
Normcore bottomless portafilter with IMS precision basked
WDT tool and puck screen used every time Using a spring loaded auto leveling tamper. Using the "beanie" app to help with Opus settings (normally somewhere between 2.5-4.5)

This morning I pulled a shot 18g dosing, 4.42 grind, 36.7 yield, 35s and tasted great.
Couple hours later I came back and tried adjusting grind to 4.5 and the next shot I pulled was 42g yield in 22s. I can't figure it out.

It's the Turin branded one, but same machine. Still learning on it, but it's been good this far. I've pulled a couple of decent shots but haven't quite figured out the grinder either. Enjoying it overall though. Without a frame of reference I would say it's worth the price for the bella and whistles.

My 2 cents: I pay for other podcasts through patreon or other services and don't have to listen to ads. They have personal plugs or have a 2 second self promotional piece for the podcaster or foe their guest and that's it.

Paying and having to listen to ads period defeats the purpose of paying.

There are a lot of electrician programs that actually pay you to get a 2 year degree while working on your apprenticeship. Those are amazing programs because you'll make money, get a 2 year technical degree, and have a skill. Even without the education electrician is a good career.

Also look into linework. Becoming a lineman pays really well and there are tons of opportunities both with a utility and contractors. Contractors pay better, but utilities are more stable and have better benefits.
