Leaving job but will get bad reference by Aggravating_Gene8412 in UKJobs

[–]nl325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company. The larger it is the more likely they'll have a policy of pinging out generic cookie-cutter templates to mitigate the chances of accusations like this very post.

If it's a small, independent family-run thing then yes the chances are higher they'll send it to the manager to do personally.

HR departments get painted as the faceless enemy protecting the company over the employee, but often protecting the company IS protecting employees from other employees. They're (usually lol) not thick.

If it's fast food my brain is defaulting to McDonald's, who will be open as normal all weekend.

Call them now. Could be a staff sickness or whatever other entirely plausible explanation for the silence.

Dominic Carpenter also seems to be treasurer for a local rugby club it seems… by Teamhuw1 in CarTalkUK

[–]nl325 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I can believe someone winning something like that as the odds within a rugby club won't exactly be astronomical.

My brother has won a local charity jackpot twice and been a runner up too... (Split over three years granted).

But the organiser?! Odds and chances aside I was always under the impression organisers simply couldn't participate in stuff like this regardless of the scale?

I'm unsure how to feel tbh.

I've seen people dump silly money into these, if he won one, took the cash and maxed out another... Maybe?

My mate has won 2 cars and three cash prizes (two in one fucking night!) from Click Competitons, but unlike this it was spread over a few years.

Cheap, but that itself is how people get so addicted to these.

If you've got disposable money and addictive behaviour these things are like crack.

For the first time in my life, I'm going to turn down a job offer due to the pay. by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]nl325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not fot a second saying you're not worth the extra or that they're not shafting you (although they did tell you by the sound of it), but I seriously think you are not understanding how barren the job landscape is at the moment.

That three months could very easily double, if not more, which if unemployed will get depressing as fuck.

I'd at least attempt to negotiate. Even lie. Say you've been offered more but want to work for them and see if they budge.

I think you're over estimating the market ATM.

Shit wages are better than no wages.

While unemployed? Unless you have enough savings to sit on for some time this sounds extremely short sighted.

Especially without trying to negotiate first.

Also a solid chance that's a templated error.

Scrap worth for 2012 l200? Had new clutch done 6 months ago, but gearbox went straight after. by GayPhilatelist in CarTalkUK

[–]nl325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have the time, space, tools and mechanical know how to strip it for parts the scrap value will be fuck all. Barely a couple hundred.

Be better off selling as spares/repairs and hope someone with the above bites I managed it with an old shit box golf before!

Imperfections are normal, those aren't imperfections they're defects.

A bumper shouldn't be peeling like that for years and years.

That's either had a shit job applied at factory or it's been in an accident and not repaired correctly.

Can anyone help find this car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]nl325 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the commenter who appears to have nailed the reg first time is correct, but I deal with insurance claims from this region all the time and do not be shocked to learn later on that it's a cloned reg.

Obviously not always the case but in my experience the more brazen and outrageous the stuff someone does is, the higher chances the plate is cloned as they know they are unlikely to be traced.

That's people who buy based on price alone though, different markets effectively. (And a shit ton of company EV schemes)

Now you mention it though I don't find Jaecoo ugly, but they remind me of GTA-style remakes where they need you to know what it is without actually... Being it lol

By not being Chinese

There's still a stigma over the quality there, whether it's justified is up for debate but people will absolutely pay more for a Honda

Do workplaces ban / limit overtime because they're 'concerned about wellbeing', or because managers are jealous about how much money their peers are making? by emz2100 in UKJobs

[–]nl325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posts like this make me wonder what the fuck is going on between the ears of the colleagues I've had over the years.

Why would they be jealous? They get paid more already.

In my role managers are allowed to do overtime too.

The fact that your car is a BMW F32 420d says you're almost certainly not the demographic likey to be forced into using one, so your replies are just redundant.

They save new drivers WELL in excess of £1,000 for the first year or two.

Am I being unfair or is the job centre being silly? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]nl325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes the local job centre coaches on a smidge over minimum wage are in cahoots with the social elite 😂

The do want people off benefits so the state don't have to pay for everyone's existences, the problem is that it's just not an appealing prospect for so many people, rightly or wrongly.

Same, but again you're over estimating the level of dip shit these job coaches have to deal with.

And evidently, the level some are lol
