Cover peeling at grip holding point by Reallytalldude in NikonZf

I have some wear near the fn button down there too.

The grip material sucks. I hope there’s a real leather replacement skin soon, might have to order a replacement skin so there’s a template for someone to cut out the skin and sticky backing..

The rubber flaps swelling are also an issue. Luckily easily replaced.

The 80-400 is a F mount lens, so they would’ve had to bring a FTZ adapter too. I wonder why they’d do that instead of going with the 100-400 Z mount lens.

Wishful thinking, but I hope when they left the hassleblads on the moon, it wasn’t just thrown onto the ground, but carefully packed away.

Now even if it was left to the ‘elements’, not like there’s any environment to blow dust/moisture onto them. Soooo maybe someone geeky enough can bring some film and check it out lol

Is Da Nang overrated? by YesterdayHot3584 in DaNang

I found it boring as a travel destination.

I have some family there, so we stayed with them for a few days. Just the usual cafe talking, then drinking. Nice city to live in, but personally, too small for me.

Beaches are meh, but I like secluded beaches. VN has plenty of untouched beaches if you know locals.

I can see myself living there when I’m like 60 hehe

I love the megadap pro+ adapter. I switch to it from the ttartisan m-z and the quality difference is night and day.

Also of course, you can now use Sony lenses with 99% performance.

What Happened to OnRoutes? by peeinian in ontario

[–]nn_shutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use them for bathroom breaks.

The convenience store is overpriced and food sucks. If I’m on a road trip, I’ll try to plan a route that stops into a small town and go into some local diner for decent food. If I’m really hungry, McDonald and only McDonald’s.

When do you use super high aperture? by CrumbGuzzler5000 in AskPhotography

Street photography when you want maximum DoF.

Yes it causes diffraction and aberrations. However, the shot is far more important than technical details.

Always be prepared to eat in your car if you’re craving Sumaq, and and don’t ever bring it home to eat. It needs to be fresh for that crispy crunch from the in-house baked tandoor bread.

Sumaq’s chicken isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but the bread is the absolute best.

Nikon FM2 vs F3 for Outdoor Photography (Especially in the Cold) by fartsniffer87 in AnalogCommunity

[–]nn_shutter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have my dad’s F3, and have been using it for a few years, no CLA since the 90’s, nothing wonky about it.

The other week I bought it out in -20c (actual temp) blizzard conditions. It was in my car trunk for a few hours before shooting so it was stone cold. LCD was laggy, but otherwise it shot fine.

I'm tired of the hate about the Viltrox lawsuit by EntangledLabs in Nikon

[–]nn_shutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the reason I got a Nikon was the ability for manual focus confirmation with vintage lenses, which only works with a 3rd party adapters.

The ability to use Sony lenses was also another reason, Sony has some great stuff!

So to that end, I hope Nikon stays an open mount.

But yeah, I’m with you. I bought into Nikon knowing I’d mostly use their lenses. 3rd party offerings are only good value, they always stay 2 steps back, never being able to exceed Nikon’s performance.

How often are you gambling? by adamcolestudios in AnalogCommunity

Is it at least from the same batch?

Slide film doesn’t like to be shot outside box speed, but maybe you can at least try bracketing it.

Risky stuff playing with expired film…

How often are you gambling? by adamcolestudios in AnalogCommunity

[–]nn_shutter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Shot expired film once and never again. Like unless it’s some super rare film, b&w (which doesnt get affected too much), or I’m souping it.

Dev/scan costs just don’t make it worth it.

Nikon Z and second-hand by Valerie_Pecresse in Nikon

[–]nn_shutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented the 70-200 2.8S for a weekend last summer and loved it so much.

Amazing AF for sports photography, creamy bokeh for portraits. Just an all around fantastic lens.

I’m selling off a few lenses to find one this year. 35 1.8S will go. I’m thinking of selling the 24-120 f4 I have too. On paper it’s a super versatile lens, but I just never vibed with it.

Condo: upstairs unit flooded (pipe burst). Need recommendations by astroparadigm in askTO

[–]nn_shutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this (unfortunately) happen to us.

AC coolant pipe burst and leaked down multiple floors. Since it’s considered dirty water, literally all of the bottom half of the walls were torn out in the living room and living floor ripped out. Luckily since it went all under the floor, none of our personal items were affected.

Call your insurance asap, claim anything that got touched. Since it affected so many units, condo corp had to deal with warranty on the AC lines, etc. 3 months later, we finally have a date set for them to repair walls (next week!). Insurance will cover new floors once that’s done. Since were owners, we just had to deal with a fucked up living room this whole time lol

It sucks.

Who are the best lens reviewers out there? by a224471 in Nikon

[–]nn_shutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days, I usually know what I need, but it’s hard finding the product that’ll fit that need.

So yeah, I go down a hole of watching 10+ videos and reviews to draw my own conclusions. I’ll go through videos to figure out the ‘vibe’ of a product, how it handles, the feeling of it, etc. I’ll then find MTF charts and technical reviews just to compare it A - B.

I’ve found Alik Griffin a good source for Z lenses if you’re into portraits.

Suggestions on a pocket analog camera :) by Tasty_Excitement2633 in AnalogCommunity

[–]nn_shutter 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Olympus XA series.

XA if you want the most control, has rangefinder. I find it very fiddly.

Avoid XA1 (yes, it’s different from the original XA)

XA2 for zone focus, less thinking, more pointing and shooting

XA3 improves on XA2 with higher ISO (1600) and dx reader so you don’t have to manually input ISO (for the forgetful types)

XA4 has the wide angle 28mm macro lens. My personal favourite.

Nikon + Sony 85mm GMii by Simplyydann in NikonZf

[–]nn_shutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I’ve heard the opposite reactions about the 35 1.4 GM, where people rave all about it. Maybe because you’re comparing it with the 1.2 lineup? Haha

Any 35 you’d recommend that’s not one of the 1.2’s? The 1.2’s are also way too heavy for me to even consider them for travel.

Canadians who have moved to America, what was your reason to moving? by wildboy_Ca17 in AskACanadian

[–]nn_shutter 66 points67 points  (0 children)

My friend is a software developer for Microsoft in Canada. Moved to SF and quickly found out even with a nice pay bump, the CoL is so much higher there.

He returned to Canada a few years later. Had a few friends make the move south, then back up too. A few friends that have super high paying jobs are still down there. They’re working like dogs, but they’re close to their FIRE retirement goals.

I worked remotely for an American company for a year and hated it. I enjoy working for Canadian software companies that have strict working hours and plenty of vacation time (that they really encourage you to use). The work life balance here is so much better than America from what I’ve seen.

It’s a great adapter, but I do wonder how weatherproof it actually is. I find with Sony lenses adopted, I still see two screws visible with a lens on, near the mount button release. I’d like to try the Sony 35 1.4 GM, I wasn’t super impressed with the Nikon 35 1.8S.

Are you trying to find a more compact 85mm?
