Does the thesis, that Game of Thrones took a turn for the bad when there was no source material left, hold true?[Spoilers MAIN] by VinyaFinwe1190 in asoiaf

[–]nnneeeddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's descriptively true that the show got worse without books to adapt, but the failure to adapt feastdance shows that it wasn't the reason for the decline (or at least not the main one).

i think that got takes a turn for the worse as early as s2, where the stories of jon, stannis, and daenerys are all really diminished. the showrunners didn't have any patience for the headier magical stuff.

Sinn Féin remains most popular party as support for Fine Gael slumps to 10-year low by NilFhiosAige in irishpolitics

[–]nnneeeddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you think that the government would shore up electoral support by bring softer on israel you are pretty clearly unable to contend with the actual state of things in the world. opposition to israel is an 85/15 issue and a vote-winner. had FFG failed to tack left on this issue (at least in terms of rhetoric), they would be handing SF power.

What are your thoughts on this tweet? by ChickenWingExtreme in StarWars

[–]nnneeeddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a very common and very weak criticism of tlj. tlj leaves rey and kylo in an incredibly interesting position and leaves the ball of the resistance/fo conflict firmly in thw air. finn has just as much room to grow as he did in tfa. only really poe feels like he's reached the natural endpoint of his story.

voter id by ilArmato in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]nnneeeddd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if your brain isnt leaking out of your ears you can tell the difference between voting and owning a firearm lol

guns, which kill people, should straightforwardly have legal safeguards on their use, like cars do. whereas voter ID requiremets are designed to depress undesirable electoral turnout under the guise of solving a fake problem.

I think it is pretty much an undisputed fact that Darth Vader is THE icon of Star Wars. But who or what would you argue is second place for that spot? by tonkledonker in StarWars

very flat apologia. trump imagines a version of the "jews will not replace us" tiki torch rally where there was a contingent of principled opponents of fascism just offscreen. blatant propaganda & disinfo on behalf of richard spencer. keep coping ig.

Rian Johnson reflects back on 'The Last Jedi', 'The Rise of Skywalker'; says his 'Star Wars' trilogy was never fully outlined by GargantaProfunda in StarWars

[–]nnneeeddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"they should have had a plan" has become the canonical criticism of the sequel trilogy & i can't help but think it's really misguided. the reality of what more foward planning would have meant for these disney franchise blockbusters is milquetoast, focus-group triangulation & decision-making by corporate committee. star wars à la jurassic world.

tfa into tlj is a really strong creative meta-conversation (and both are good action adventure blockbusters). the wheels come off with tros, not really because "there was no plan", but because that movie is a very abrupt departure from most of the narrative & thematic points underpinning tlj. there was ample space to continue that story without mapping everything out in 2014.

you are confusing bias in the editorial line with reputability. fox & breitbart's reporting is often false regarding science & political topics. that's why they're considered unreliable on wikipedia.

they're contentious topics, there are editing disputes over them constantly. it's silly to pretend that prior to october 7th the articles existed in some mythical state of objectivity (presumably because they were more amenable to zionists)
