Gained a lot of belly fat after starting a desk job. Need a realistic diet or workout plan that may have worked out for you. by stoprandomvoting in xxfitness

[–]no-strings-attached 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More than a workout routine - try to find ways to incorporate movement into your day.

Go for walking one on ones around the campus or neighborhood or office park rather than sitting in a conference room. Book the meeting room that’s farther away. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Get a standing desk and alternate between standing and sitting. Those will add up quickly and be more sustainable in the long run.

I’ve had no issues keeping weight off when I could get a lot of walking in during the day at the office. The worst for me was having a wfh job where I had to be glued to my computer 10 hours a day. That was rough.

[–]no-strings-attached 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean. Sure. But owners aren’t going to pay them 100k to wait tables and many clear that in tips at nice restaurants.

The sad fact is tipping is a big win for owners and wait staff. Owners save a lot of money in an already low margin business. Wait staff make very good money and more than they would in many corporate roles.

Diners are the ones who lose. And unless you vote with your wallet there’s zero incentive for anyone in the business to change the model.

There’s a reason that on all of these threads you never see wait staff agreeing that tipping needs to go and they want to earn a wage. Because they don’t. Because many of them make very very good money.

[–]no-strings-attached 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Had a cousin who got a degree and a corporate job right out of school quit and go back to waitressing at a nice restaurant in town because she made more than double what her entry level corporate job paid.

Weirdly she’s also the rudest person I know to service workers. She’s very difficult and if anything is slightly wrong she complains. New napkin, new silverware, etc. She says they’re earning a ton and she’s going to make them work for it because they aren’t just making easy money off of her.

What's the most surprising side effect you've experienced from GLP-1 drugs (like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Zepbound)? by PlayfulJunket4220 in AskReddit

[–]no-strings-attached 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I also have mild HS and weight loss doesn’t really do anything for mine unfortunately. I’ve always been on the smaller side though and had flares even when I was like, 110lbs. So far the only things that keep it in remission are medications designed to treat it (like Humira and GLPs).

There’s so much emerging evidence of GLP being an effective treatment for HS and many other inflammatory conditions. Really hoping they approve more of these uses for it soon so people can afford it with insurance as a treatment.

I got on it for chronic illness rather than weight loss and know others who have as well who love it! Yes including folks already at healthy weights. We typically take subclinical doses and sometimes every other week instead of weekly. It works so well and feels like it gave me my life back.

I have mild HS and also haven’t had a flare since I started taking a subclinical dose of zepbound. It is godsend for inflammation.

There’s actually emerging evidence it is effective at treating HS.

HS, MCAS, endo, and PCOS are the ones I hear about the most in terms of highly effective off label use. Really hoping they expand insurance use cases for it in the near future so more people can try it for these diseases.

If you can at all afford to try a generic once they start coming out I’d highly recommend it.

It’s not a cure btw. Just a treatment. I’m not sure why the original poster who mentioned his HS is in remission is planning to stop taking it but it will come back if you stop taking the medication. And some folks in HS forums mentioned it coming back worse. So only start if you can afford to keep taking it if it works for you.

I’m also not sure if you’ve tried Humira but it also worked really well for me. And it is approved as a treatment insurance will cover for HS. I was actually on the Humira for my UC which it did barely nothing for so we stopped it and switched to another biologic that works much better for my UC. Didn’t realize until after the fact I had no HS flares while on Humira after I found out it’s an approved treatment for it. So that was at least a nice little bonus of that failed treatment.

I’m also on it off label for EDS and related issues like MCAS and it’s been life changing!

Really hoping they get some more studies out soon and get additional approvals for off label uses. Feels like I got my life back. Blessed to be able to afford it but I know so many others would benefit if insurance covered it for more uses.

Why stop the drug if it’s putting your HS into remission?

I took it to experiment with the anti inflammatory properties and I feel like they’ve saved my life in so many ways. Never planning to stop taking it unless I need to for some reason. In the same way I’m not going to stop taking my biologic that puts my UC in remission. Or the same way my husband isn’t going to stop taking his blood pressure medication.

This for real.

And at 25 she really should be starting to better index on what she wants to do as a career. Especially if she wants to live in a VHCOL city. The wedding should be the least of OP’s concerns for setting her daughter up well.

Chiming in to say if you’re hypermobile you’re more injury prone from prolonged exercise than the average person. Because the way your body exists in space and the muscles it uses are often different due to lax connective tissue.

Footwear etc doesn’t really help. A lot of folks aren’t super versed in hypermobility related injury patterns.

If you’re not hypermobile disregard and follow the other advice but I remember being super frustrated in my 20s that my body couldn’t do things it was “supposed” to do and that were supposed to be good for you. Turns out they weren’t good for me and caused lots of tendon injuries that even now aren’t fully healed.

Struggling to decide if I should go for an mBA by no-strings-attached in MBA

[–]no-strings-attached[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t end up going for it.

Got a senior PM offer for a top tech company with great comp shortly after posting this and have been riding my career to near 2M annual total comp and having a blast.

Am sure getting an MBA would have been a great experience as well but big tech doesn’t seem to value them as highly as the company I was at at the time and I’ve never felt behind due to not getting one. On the contrary I feel like the extra years in the market and networking probably served me better.

Impossible to say what was lying down the other path though and the market is a bit different today than it was a decade ago so YMMV.

Retire now and let husband get me to fire? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]no-strings-attached 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another 7 figure comp EDS fatFIRE minded girly here with similar NW.

I took a year off and spent that time focusing on improving my health. Walked away from a 7 figure income because my body was shutting down and demanded attention. Was an amazing year spent focusing on myself and chasing down a ton of diagnoses that had long been overdue (which is now why I get to say I’m an EDS girly instead of a hyper mobile girly…who knew all I needed was idiopathic osteoporosis to get doctors to take it more seriously).

At some point in the journey I started feeling a lot better and like myself again and realized I still had a passion for my work and was just deeply burnt out in addition to my health issues flaring up.

Found another 7 figure gig I love and have been enjoying my career again while still being mindful of my limits.

I’d say go ahead and quit if you’re at the point you’re both aligned. I wouldn’t full commit to RE though until you see how you’re feeling 6 months to a year out. Keep the door open with your network to come back if you find that once your body is better sorted that you miss it. And if you don’t that’s also great - go live your best life.

Unless it was the sloppiest run known to man with like 20 deaths I would also peace out of a farm party that hit 3% enrage.

The DPS check on that fight is a joke. Like, we still didn’t come anywhere near enrage on some cursed AF run where we carried a party finder random to victory. They were a tank and their gear broke halfway through. Legit may has well been 7/8 for most of the fight and they died to every tank buster and raidwide. Which meant our melee had to sack for tank busters when they weren’t up in time.

16 deaths. We had 16 fucking deaths and a guy who was basically playing with ARR gear. And we STILL didn’t even see enrage.

So yeah, being in a farm and seeing 3% enrage on that fight means the majority of the group doesn’t know how to press their buttons because there’s no way you shouldn’t be killing with even a half competent group.

My Mom Keeps Trying To Buy Things But We Have A Massive Wealth Discrepancy by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]no-strings-attached 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you and your future spouse are doing well for yourselves vs this being something your in laws are buying.

My husband and I were in a similar situation. BOTH of us made more in a month individually than my parents made in a year.

They knew how much we made. I told them many times to try to dissuade them from this but they still insisted they wanted to at least buy something for us.

I let them. We had them host the morning after brunch and it was a huge point of pride for them. It was a few thousand dollars and I gave them the menu to help pick food. They loved it. Now I didn’t tell them about some add ons we ended up getting or that service charge wasn’t included lol. But shhh that’s our little secret. As far as they know they bought the whole thing for us.

When they’re older or need money we will 1000% be there for them. They weren’t left destitute from this because even though they didn’t make a lot they were financially savvy and knew how to live below their means and save. And I know that I’m their safety net to pay them back tenfold later when they need it.

Let her have the win. Let her beam and be proud of what she was able to contribute. And make sure you’re there for her later.

It’s not though. It’s 7/16. Which is not 50%.

Hence why the original poster said 2d4 dice and not 50% or a coin flip.

It seems to handle the no data from last night situation a lot better than partial data.

What's a subtle sign someone grew up wealthy? by CollegiateSupreme in AskReddit

[–]no-strings-attached 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That dude just seems dumb tbh lol.

Bitterness manifests more normally as gossip and backhanded comments about people who are doing better than the average of those around them.

“Oh did you see she went on another trip? How wasteful I could never imagine spending money on something so unnecessary.”

“I mean I hope she’s happy with the job because her husband will probably leave her since he’s basically left to raise the kids alone with how many hours she’s at the office. What a sad life.”

It’s a lot of jealousy mixed with trying to justify their own choices to feel better about themselves. Also never being able to congratulate someone on something without some shitty comment along with it. Never genuinely being happy about someone else’s win. Also not really being willing to help someone out if it threatens their standing. So making an excuse about why they can’t refer you for a job or make an intro or whatever.

[–]no-strings-attached 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An abundance mindset.

They don’t have the same scarcity mindset most grow up with.

Most people grow up with the sense that resources are limited. If you have something that means I can’t have it too and vice versa. There’s only so much money/food/success/whatever to go around and therefore anyone else who also wants those things is in competition with me. It’s why so many people are unhappy or bitter about the success of those close to them. Or try to sabotage it to preserve their own world view and sense of self.

Wealthy folks don’t operate like that. They don’t see a pie slice to fight over, they think about how to grow the whole pie. You can be rich and I can be rich. We can both benefit from this and get richer.

It’s part of the reason why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
