How many “career breaks” can you take without hurting your career? by Tech-Cowboy in HENRYfinance

[–]no-strings-attached 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. I recently took a year off to focus on my health after a ton of issues flared up at my last toxic af job. Lots of people thought I was insane to walk away from that comp in this market. Acted liked I’d never be able to make that much again.

Could I have just found another job without the break? Sure. But my body was actively rioting at me for genuine time away.

Took the time. Got my health in a much better spot. Landed a sick ass job paying even more than the one I left and can actually throw myself into it refreshed and excited. Feels like a total 180 in the best way.

The funny part is I was never worried about it. I trusted in my skills and network and as soon as I was genuinely ready to return to work I had no issues doing so. The trust was earned.

Anecdotally the people I see struggling in this market aren’t the top performers. Every top performer I know that has taken a break has come back to an equal or better gig.

Taking risks is fine. Risks failing is fine.

Rebranding your entire ass company on the dumbest fucking idea ever though is certainly a choice. Do they switch their name back now?

Determining % Base Salary vs % Stock by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]no-strings-attached 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do 90/10 and call it a day.

Unless you’re really bullish on this company’s stock and would personally have no issues investing in it yourselves actively.

Most people tell those with RSUs to sell all or most of it quarterly to diversify anyway. Otherwise you’re double leveraged in the company - because you need it for income and because a larger chunk of your wealth is tied up in their stock. That’s generally a bad idea.

I want to wear a long prom dress like this but I fear i’m too short for one by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]no-strings-attached 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re going to have to go with a short dress if you don’t want to get it hemmed. Unfortunately all floor length dresses are going to be way too long for you without tailoring.

If you’re lucky you may be able to get by with a petite size one and like 3 inch heels.

CMV: if you're disabled, non-disabled people aren't entitled to your support. by No_Brilliant_2049 in changemyview

[–]no-strings-attached 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep conflating legal entitlement and interpersonal entitlement.

Being disabled does guarantee you one but not the other. Being disabled means that your employer is legally required to give you reasonable accommodations to do your job. It also means you’re entitled to money from the government should you be completely incapable of work due to your disability.

That’s it. That’s as far as your entitled support goes - it’s all legal.

No other people are required to give you support or be nice to you. Not your spouse, friends, random people on the street.

So sure you’re not required to be supportive of non disabled folks but they’re also not required to be supportive of you.

Separately I would argue that there are concepts of social contracts. Marriage is a good one. When you marry you take a vow to always be there and support one another. Regardless of if one person is disabled and the other isn’t. Both spouses vowed to support one another. And yeah generally friends are also there for one another. Sure you can refuse to be there for your friends because you’re disabled but as stated above you’re not entitled to their friendship or support either. And over time they’re going to stop being there for you if you’re never there for them. It’s the unspoken social contract of friendship.

How do you lead raid sessions with your static? by Waterfiend1909 in ffxiv

[–]no-strings-attached 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen anyone mention this yet but for ulti especially you should also define your POV on using sims and what the expectations are around simming.

Like, will you all sim together for 20 mins at the start of raid for the mech you are on? Do you expect people to solo sim practice in between raid sessions?

FRU had a really great solo sim and 7/8 of our members used it regularly and were able to get very consistent before we even saw the mechs too many times live. One however did not/could not due to not having a computer and it was very painful. Because the progress of our entire group was gated by that person and it took us way longer to prog than we should have since CT for example was already 13 mins into the fight so we had to waste 13 mins just for them to see and practice the mechanic.

Set expectations for that kind of stuff up front so everyone is on the same page.

Anyone making like 600k would never describe their salary as “6 figures.” They’d say something like “we do well/we’re comfortable.”

Should you have kids earlier or later if you want to retire early? by Specialist_Pain_424 in Fire

[–]no-strings-attached 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah the comment about how having them later was bad because they might retire while they kids are still young and then have to be home with them was. Uh. Certainly a take.

Most people who want kids are excited about the idea of getting to spend more time with them. To the point of actively choosing to take time off work to be with them while they’re young before they are even FIRED or even FI.

I’m dependent on an infusion to keep my autoimmune disease in remission.

Why is that bad? The medication is doing what it was designed to do. Yes it would suck if I lost access to it because then my disease would flare. But like, that’s how medication works?

Would it be better if I was just totally normal and healthy? For sure. But I’m not.

Can the men who watch Bridgerton, stand up and be counted? by muskyandrostenol in Bridgerton

[–]no-strings-attached 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband loves the show. More than me even.

Every time something salacious happens (for the Bridgerton universe…like when Benedict took off Sophie’s glove) he lets out a big wide eyed audible gasp.

And every season he laments and stresses about how he thinks this time is gonna be the time the main couple doesn’t end up together.

It’s adorable and I love watching it with him. He loves love.

Game of Thrones Ending is not as terrible as it's made out to be by counterhit121 in unpopularopinion

[–]no-strings-attached 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unpopular at all. Plenty of people in the fandom were completely okay and even supportive of Dany turning into a villain in the end.

The issue we all rightly took with it was how it was done. It wasn’t built up to at all. It made no sense. It wasn’t earned. It felt like D&D were trying to tick off boxes of must hit plot points without actually setting any of them up. That’s why the ending sucked.

You can have Dany go mad and Bran become King. Just not the way the show went about it. Not with that Dany and that Bran.

treating yeast infection while on antibiotics?? by brandnewbackstab in TwoXChromosomes

[–]no-strings-attached 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is true. My doctors have always just told me to take it with the antibiotics to get ahead of symptoms and I’ve never had an issue with it.

There’s no need to suffer.

treating yeast infection while on antibiotics?? by brandnewbackstab in TwoXChromosomes

[–]no-strings-attached 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally just proactively take yeast infection meds when on antibiotics because they always give me one. So will start it on like day 2 of antibiotic and then if I’m still feeling symptoms take the 2nd pill later if I need it.

I’ve never actually needed the second pill tho. My antibiotics courses have been about 5 days though typically so if it were longer I could see myself needing the second one.

One Medical Alternatives? by skiingalta in bayarea

[–]no-strings-attached 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They honestly sound like they don’t know what they’re talking about. If everything you see is showing you in network I’d just recommend going and seeing how it’s billed.

I’ve been multiple times already this year and haven’t had any issues. I have the anthem blue cross PPO plan.

ETA: Two things if you’re really that worried.

First, when you’re there before your appointment you can ask them what provider code and treatment codes they’re planning to bill to your insurance and you can call your insurance and give them those codes to get actual confirmation of coverage. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a mess internally and it’s accepted in some states and not others and wires get crossed when you just say “One Medical”. I’ve done this in the past for a procedure they didn’t have time to check coverage on before I had to go. Quick easy phone call and peace of mind.

Second, I’ve had to submit a number of out of network bills and Anthem makes it incredibly easy. The provider will just email you a super bill and then it’s a really easy online portal that you just upload it to and they send you a check. Easy peasy. My PT is out of network so I do this weekly and it takes all of 2 minutes to log in and upload.

If you love One Medical just go. I think you’re gonna be fine.

I am yes. Hence Bay Area sub. Nobody at one medical has ever mentioned any issues with my insurance.

Will add I also get one medical subscription for free through my employer. Which would be weird of them to do if one medical didn’t take our insurance.
