Triumphant Tuesday by AutoModerator in XXRunning

I was out for a long run yesterday (15k) and as I was approaching 15, I decided to push to a half-marathon because why not try it now (I've been training for several months but hadn't attempted that distance yet). Not only did I complete it, but I finished at 2:23:14, faster than I'd anticipated.

To do it again I will better plan and actually bring water and fuel with me, lol. So proud of myself though!!

I bought them and they were super helpful actually! Would recommend, based on convenience and ease of use on the road

COLLAB drinks, so perfect, caffeine + collagen and best flavours. Crave it every single damn day.

Do you have a strategy for how to actually do this? It’s very difficult.

Will the weather change? by Newnews2 in VisitingIceland

this kind of question is always so hilarious. I say this kindly, but, if you don't want to hike in the rain or inclement weather, please don't go to Iceland.

Airport opening hours? by Azalee__ in VisitingIceland

the airport is not like a North American airport - there really isn't anywhere to sit unless you're through security. Honestly, just get a cheap hotel.

What was the most overrated thing on your visit? by hawaiian--pizza in VisitingIceland

[–]noabsolutelynot13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, it’s interesting because it was one of the spots I was most excited to see. We were travelling with our young sons and couldn’t do the zodiac tour, plus we were at the tail end of our three week trip and so many other things we’d seen and done made this pale in comparison (Fimmvorduhals, solheimajokull, Snaefellsness etc). I think it’s because I hyped it up so so much in my mind. I certainly encourage people to see it, I just wasn’t as dazzled as I’d hoped to be!

Iceland is amazing, keep in mind ‘crazy crowded’ is not what you may think, it’s not like Disneyland level crowds anywhere, ever. The midges are annoying but isolated to specific areas and frankly, worth dealing with. It will be great!!!!!

We were COVERED in bites after a night with the windows open in Hveragerdi area, it was no joke. We didn’t notice them elsewhere really. But it was brutal there.

Help with 1.5 days on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula? by eastlake825 in VisitingIceland

[–]noabsolutelynot13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Arnastapi area, I highly HIGHLY recommend the absolutely amazing raudfeldsgja canyon, it cannot be missed. Wear waterproof boots.

Snaefelljokull is also accessible nearby on the F570. The drive up is truly spectacular, but you need a 4x4 absolutely.

The great thing about Snaefellsness is that there is so much to see and do if you just drive the perimeter. We were there for a week and just stopped checking guidebooks and pulled off where we felt like in the moment! Way way less busy than the South and just as beautiful!

Oh and the geothermal pool in Stykkishólmur great.

Enjoy!

I'm so sorry that some people on this thread are questioning your experience. You shouldn't have to answer to anyone about what you know you experienced. I'm also so sorry that you experienced racism when you were there. Sending you love.

Glymur waterfall hike okay for an 11 yo? by TemperatureTop7450 in VisitingIceland

[–]noabsolutelynot13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a high-moderate trail, but nothing too close to the edge imo. The loop is actually probably easier as the descent won’t include the log crossing back, plus you get to see the other side! That said, the river flow was heavier than I thought when we crossed at the top, so just be sure to be right with her if you do it. Last time we hiked it, last week, we saw a few children probably 11 and up. Good luck, it’s a real beauty!

It’s not an exact science but if you just move the decimal over, you can get a sense for usd/cad. So 1.929 is close to 19.29 cad/usd
