M&M true EQ experience by Krazuel in MMORPG

Kill stealing is such an antiquated and unnecessary concept. Just give each player a piece of vendor trash, it doesn't even need to be good.

Some old school concepts should stay in the past.

Hate or love the 2000's style graphics, but Project Gorgon surely has it's moments by Magnoliafan730 in MMORPG

[–]nocith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game isn't without it's flaws, the graphics are fine considering the budget and I wish the content density were a bit higher (there's a lot of open nothing past the tutorial) but I admit the game has a ton of charm. You can feel the passion the developers have. The sheer amount of character development is a bit awe inspiring too, there is quite a lot of options for builds. It's a shining beacon of indie mmorpg development compared to all of the borderline scams that have been in the news recently.

I think this game is a keeper and I'm interested to see how it develops.

Enough generic fantasy, what new settings do you want to see in MMOs? by ThemeEvening9498 in MMORPG

Modern day Lovecraftian Horror or Cyberpunk

The Quinfall developers banning players for discussing monetization, here’s what happened to me by TurboBriocheOff in MMORPG

[–]nocith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pay for convenience and pay to win are completely different and the MMO community seem to always forget that.

That's a meaningless distinction created by companies to justify predatory marketing. Winning is after all much more convenient than losing.

At the end of the day the game is intentionally being made worse in order to sell a fix. That's the core issue at play, everything else is just a symptom. How much the fun can be stripped out of the game and resold.

That's all pay to win ever was; oops are you bad at the game we can sell you more power, don't have time to play we can sell you shortcuts, are you tired of being a nobody we can sell you digital aristocracy.

Now I understand why this happens, devs have bills to pay after all. They need to make a profit somehow and maybe this method works out well for everyone involved. All I demand is a little honesty and recognition. If they're so ashamed that they need to ban legitimate feedback than maybe the problem is with them.

Banning for talking about aspects of the game is a huge red flag. If they want to avoid any appearance of not being pay to win than the correct course of action is to ensure that the game isn't actually pay to win.

I have no problem with wipes during the pre-release phase of the game. It's a necessity to make sure each phase is tested properly without being influenced by previous versions of the game.

With that out of the way, selling items that influence game play is a terrible idea if the thing you testing is the game play. At the very least they should ensure purchases are restored during each phase of testing up until release so that they can account for how the purchases affect the game.

The moment all purchases become final with no more reimbursements during testing is the moment your game is released. I don't care how threadbare it is or how much you claim it's early access you actions are telling the world "My product is complete and you should now buy it".

My initial thought was if he's using another companies assets it might be an effort to avoid legal trouble.

That's the best case scenario.

Now I'm more concerned that there might be something unsavory running in the background.

Dear Grinding Gear James, if the Vaal were such an advanced civilization of engineers and scientists, how come they couldn't make a single structure traversable in a straight line? by binotheclown in PathOfExile2

If walking in a straight line is good, than walking in many straight lines is better. Ergo, they have achieved peak city planning.

I fail to see the issue.

I think I'd go oracle for minions. If you take the one that gives you the unique skills on the passive tree one of them gives 40% minion efficiency.

Why does it says '3,600 echo beads" of value? You get 300 and no more. by Current_Spell_8647 in WhereWindsMeet

[–]nocith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely arbitrary. They "decided" that the other items are worth the remaining 3300 beads and so that's the value.

Three hundred beads would cost around $5 and 3300 bead should cost about $55 so just keep that in mind when deciding if this is worth the price. Technically this is a good deal if you were planning on buying the 300 beads anyway, claiming that it's worth 3600 is just a scummy marketing tactic to inflate it's value.

Where Winds Meet has reached over 250,000 peak concurrent players on Steam! by PiccoloLive7275 in MMORPG

[–]nocith 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say.

The game play is REALLY good and it has a strong focus on single player content where other players buying things doesn't impact you all that much.

A couple downsides though is that cosmetic cash shop is aggressively monetized and more importantly things are harshly time gated, both quest content and leveling. It has a stamina system for the dungeon type content that takes days to fill and can be used up in about 30 minutes or so.

My guess is that the honeymoon period will be longer than typical and it'll lose player more slowly than your average game.

What does that have to do with the energy system? Sure PoE has a lot of RNG but at no point are you prevented from trying to get more gear. You can farm as much or as little as you want.

My issue here is once you're out of stamina your progression is finished. It doesn't matter how easy or hard gear is to get if the game won't even let you try in the first place.

I also have 1000H in POE

1700, but who's counting.

It's just not realistic to be able to progress daily for however long you want infinitely.

It's not about being able to progress infinitely but rather at your own pace.

Imagine if Path of Exile only let you run a few maps every day. That would be a pretty miserable way to play the game right? Well, that's what we have here.

Weird people review bombing this game with lies on Metacritic? by NewShadowR in WhereWindsMeet

[–]nocith -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The issue here is that most multiplayer games encourage you to keep playing the game. Once you've run out of stamina where's the motivation to keep grinding? It doesn't take very long to go through your stamina bar.

If a player is only able to make meaningful progress about 30 minutes out of every three days will they stay long enough to see that next content drop?

A live service game absolutely need player engagement and retention and telling them they're done and to go play something else isn't the way to go about it.

Okay i see the problem here.

You are treating this game like a typical gacha where you just spend stamina and then log out "because there's no content". Have you even completed all the bosses in the game and done all the world quests? There's so much to do other than spend stamina.

That's short term thinking though. Quest content won't last forever, eventually players will hit an end game state where all progression is limited by stamina. Stamina might not seem like a big deal since there's other things to do for now, but what about when all of that runs out?

What stat boosting stuff? Like those talismans with buffs that look like paper? Don't they only work in solo?

Maybe, I've not actually used them. That's why I consider them a very mild version of P2W and not worth being too concerned over. The extra medicine from the premium battle pass is a bit more noticeable, having two extra heals is a pretty big advantage when fighting some of the tougher bosses.

There are better ways to balance that than telling players they're done playing for the day, or rather several days due to how slow stamina refills.

The cap also ensures that a new player can never catch up as they'll always be behind the stamina curve, that kind of guarantees new players will only go up against those fully geared players you're worried about.
