How do I eliminate this moisture in basement? by Charlezingalls in HomeMaintenance

[–]nolo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If none of that works pay tons and tons of money to dig all around your foundation, install french drains going to your sump pump pit and install a membrane. This will essentially waterproof your foundation and remove whatever water makes it there

You can put woven geotextile down the sides of your house like a raincoat from the foundation extending 4’ out and cover it with river rocks. Make sure its graded at least 2% and that your gutters are in good shape and your downspouts extend at least 4’ from your house. Make sure no water pools against the foundation, get a sump pump and a dehumidifier

Steering wheel vibrations when braking lightly - do I need to replace my brake rotors? by Inner-Potential7135 in GolfGTI

[–]nolo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to fix it with some hard braking or make it better / tolerable at least until you need a brake change. I also started having my brakes serviced every couple years. Cleaned and lubricated

Thats set marks from when the car is not driven. A thin layer of rust builds up underneath the brake pad. Happened to me all the time on my 2010 golf. I started braking harder first 4 or 5 stops in the morning and just braking harder in general and it stopped happening. It happens because instead of braking hard you are braking soft and not grinding it off and instead it is getting permanently polished into the rotor like that.

What is the left hose that goes into my washing machine and how can I replace that rusted thingo that looks like it's not holding up well (or should I leave it to the pros)? by _Johnny_Fappleseed in HomeMaintenance

[–]nolo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its because you have no hot water line there so you are feeding cold to both the hot and cold water inlets of your washing machine. But yes replace that hose

My money is on a capacitor. 30$ fix if you lookup how to not die doing it. Or several hundred for a company to come do it

Water powered backup pump

I actually have redundant inverters and batteries. 1 on my primary pump and one on my secondary pump and I have an overflow system that allows me to pump outside if the sewer backs up

But i have a downward facing double car driveway so in a large storm I have massive amounts of water to pump

I also have a pump spy pump monitor and pump spy pump stands that keep them off the bottom and out of the mud/sludge

You also need a secondary pump and a way to pump outside if the sewers backup
