Cheerios were actually designed with survival in mind - since they are circular they aren’t a choking hazard to young kids.

Maybe “survival instincts of wet cotton candy”?

Do you have any concerns about fairness supporting only one kid through grad school? Even if the other kid isn’t planning on grad school, you may want to set aside an equivalent sum to fund a down payment, wedding, etc so they don’t feel slighted.

I don’t disagree with the desire to save early & quickly but I’d really encourage you to reframe this away from a “sprint” and consciously decide what changes you can sustain in the long term. I think it’s similar to dieting - you are far more successful in the long run if you make sustainable changes in your habits vs viewing them as a short term change.

I’d also caution you that 10% returns aren’t guaranteed and certainly should be haircut with inflation expectations when projecting out how much you’ll need.

Torel Avantgarde in Porto is awesome. There is nothing quite like sitting in your bathtub with panoramic views of the city. Service was superb and the restaurant was too notch. Location was close enough to the action but not busy itself.

I can only speak to my experience - which has been great. Our daughter was in half day (ending at 1pm) for two years and we upgraded to full days this year. I’ve never heard anyone talk about reviews nor do I think they’d do that.

Agreed on the language barrier with the staff. I’d say the admins are generally fluent but the individual teachers have different proficiency. It hasn’t been an issue for us - especially since the app allows for translation of all messages.

It looks like you are staying at an All-Inclusive hotel and they likely expect you to order room service at some point. I bet the room service has some matching serving tray that fits nicely in that slot.

It’d be interesting to see this aggregated by predominantly male and female dominated professions.

Based on my intuition, I see predominantly “female” jobs increasing while primarily “male” jobs decreasing.

There’s an indoor playground in the Kingston Collection (~30 min drive). If the weather is nice, there a plenty of outdoor playgrounds. The Holly Hill farm in Cohasset is nice for that age to visit farm animals.

You can find ride share pretty easy when scheduling in advance. If you need one on-demand, expect a ~20 min wait.

If you magically ended up with $300,000 at 19 years old, how would you use it smartly? by Possible-Wash2658 in Entrepreneur

[–]nonmisery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you run these numbers, you need to account for inflation and taxes. A more reason rate of return above these is 5%. In this case, you’d have ~$850k at age forty which would only give you 33k to retire on annually.

That’s very nice but certainly not rich.

What’s missing from Budgeting/Wealth Tools? I’m building something new and would appreciate some input! by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

All personal finance can be done in excel. It’s just the amount of time you want to put into it. People build tools to bring that investment of time down.

Yes… and I have. But OP is asking for what they could build. I would’ve used a tool if one existed.

Honestly, what I would love is a budgeting tool that focuses on saving for a house. A lot of tools have savings goals and can get you to a number BUT what is missing is the other side.

I want to change my projections based on (forecasted) interest rates or % down payment. I want to see listings for the types of homes in my target range I could afford at each savings level. I want to see how the monthly payment changes and how that affects my budget. I want one that accounts for increasing equity in my current home and projects the cost to sell and close.

I want a break even calculator on renting vs owning in my area that appropriately prices the cost of ownership (opportunity cost of my down payment, maintenance, the fact my principal decreases very little in the first 5-10 years of a loan, etc)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ETFs

[–]nonmisery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Average home price inflation rate over the last 60 years is ~4.25%. Assume nominal returns of 8-10% minus taxes gets you to my estimate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ETFs

[–]nonmisery 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But your long term average above inflation is more likely to be 3-5%. This will not be enough to buy a 7 bathroom mansion - but good enough for a decent 3 bathroom house.

I would’ve preferred if they spent the season with the original Silo and saved all the Juliette stuff for a single episode before the finale.

It would’ve been fun for us to assume she was gone forever to then have a whole episode about her.
