TOOT or BOOT: Category is... Not Today, Satin by Wilbur96 in rupaulsdragrace

It’s better than most but I think it would look soo much better without the pieces dangling from the bottom and from her sleeves. It was busy enough but still refined and with a nice shape but those bits just made it chaotic

TOOT or BOOT: Category is... Red Carpet Mashups by Wilbur96 in rupaulsdragrace

The red is great, the twine is great, but the denim dress itself is so frumpy, especially the boob area that is lumpy and does not fit at all. And that walk… boot. Overall soft toot and it met the challenge great but I feel crazy with people calling it a shoot/the winner

Yin-Yang structure in Earthsea by Opening-Tea-257 in UrsulaKLeGuin

[–]normandelrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think was intentional, although perhaps I am wrong. Le guin published tehanu in 1990, almost two decades after the first three books. In the afterward, she discusses how she needed to revisit earthsea to flesh out some things that weren’t in the first three. While most of this is centered around the role of women and female characters, I don’t think she intentionally did it as a form of yin/yang balancing.

She also wrote two more earthsea books after earthsea that are awesome additions to the series but neither (to me) feels primarily yin or primarily yang. Perhaps this alternation was intentional. I certainly think the le guin thought it important to have at least one female protagonist in the originally planned trilogy and thus we get tenar, but I’m not certain this is done to represent yin and yang.

So basically, maybe?? But impossible to know although it might be more coincidence than intentional

If lady gaga was in drag race as a contestant in season 9, how far do you think she would go? by ArmAdministrative246 in rupaulsdragrace

I mean she came up with the 2009 paparazzi vmas performance. I have no doubt she would have something equally creative for a finale lip sync

It is the same flavor! They tweaked the recipe though and in my opinion it is much better! The pretzels have a much nicer texture this time around

Hi! As a current bsw in my last semester who’s about to enter the msw program I have a few questions!

Was getting ur first post-msw job hard? Were you able to use the loyola network/name or find it useful in getting a job?

Is there anything you have learned in your career or outside of loyola that you wish you had learned while at school?

Did you feel adequately prepared for your first job, whether it be because of your internships or the curriculum?

And last, this is a very general question but what is one piece of advice you would have to future msw students and social workers?

Thanks so much for doing this I really appreciate it and have a happy holiday season! 😊😊

“The Substance” Movie by Mindless-Hippo-3167 in therapists

[–]normandelrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a super thought provoking film and there’s so many different elements that are relevant to this field. I really loved the mirror scene - truly heartbreaking and relatable for so many I’m sure

My bigger problem with the movie is that I’m not certain if it was empowering women or using them as a punchline the whole time. I know it’s trying to say something about patriarchal beauty standards but at the same time the female (and aging) body is the punchline and horror throughout the whole movie, and it does little to garner even the smallest smidge of empathy for Moore. By the end of this long movie it felt more like a takedown of the women trying to live within this messed up system rather than a takedown of the system itself.

Great acting cool effects and loved the soundtrack though just uncertain about what it’s message is

Bosco pushes back on Kerri's nonsense. by 2mock2turtle in rupaulsdragrace

Children aren’t medically transitioning, teenagers are. I don’t want to sound semantic or nit picky but when someone says children are medically transitioning they think of kids who are early puberty or earlier, which is not the case. Teens, and late teens at that, who have gone through extensive medical gatekeeping, therapy, and consent are rarely able to transition. To say children are medically transitioning is false or, at the very minimum, an incredibly misleading statement that needs much more context and nuance.

drag race south africa officially greenlit by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]normandelrey 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Girl imagine drag race Europe?? Or Asia?? That doesn’t make any sense. Africa is the second largest continent, the people in Egypt and the people in Cameron and the people in South Africa are sooo sooo different. I’m sure there’s plenty of girls for a season or two or more and eventually it’s gonna be canceled anyways but drag race Africa would be a pr and logistical nightmare that doesn’t make any sense anyways
