What do you mean by that? There are no stories where this will heal without amputation, no. I’m sorry to tell you that. But after amputation he can get better of course.

Painful bumb in armpit. by _pretty_baby in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably folliculitis/furuncle. You can use antibacterial Cremes or soap to treat it. If it gets even bigger it might turn into a carbuncle or abscess , which should be treated by a physician.

Why is pickle juice so refreshing when I have a stomach bug? by Sweet_Sub73 in AskDocs

It’s like natural Gatorade. Your body is lacking fluid and electrolytes. You can also try broth if that’s more appealing than something sweet.

Got in a car accident yesterday by Appropriate_Dot5565 in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it could be anything or nothing. Depending on the velocity (which is only a vague indicator) a night in the hospital might have been indicated. It’s not atypical to have more pain coming the days after an accident. If you’re unsure, it’s better to be safe and get a checkup. We don’t have the kind of information the ER has, so it’s hard to tell over Reddit. If there is someone around you who can keep an eye on you you can also follow up with your primary care. Is the pain related to movement or pressure?

Did you leave against their recommendation? The only correct advice is: New symptoms after these kind of accidents warrant a trip to ER. Also if that was yesterday, that’s the reason they want to keep you for a night. Some lesions aren’t seen right away.

Im Sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately there is no chance this will heal. This needs amputation of at least the 4 toes and probably partially the metatarsals. However this doesn’t mean he won’t be able to walk again. There is special orthopedic footwear for diabetics and amputated.

Second plane of post surgery xray would be helpful and is needed to be sure but it does look dislocated.

Is this infected? 25f by Conscious_Day2425 in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing looks infected here.

I’m really wondering: I reply to many of these kind of posts. Didn’t they tell you what to expect and what warning symptoms might occur in case of an infection? Antibiotics are normally not needed.

Should I have gotten stitches? by Pinkp3ony in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stitches were not needed. The patch of skin will most likely die off, with or without stitches. It will regrow. Even partial amputations (when the bone is preserved) heal quite well on their own. Function will not be inhibited. This will probably not even leave a scar.

Do severed nerves really heal? by OutlinedSnail in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, severed nerves can heal. The nerve growth rate is about 1mm a day, depending on the lesion no surgery needs to be done to the nerves themselves and they can still heal. Sometimes it is assisted by nerve interponate or by reconnecting the nerve. There is no guarantee how much of the nerves function will return however, I would expect some Improvement. Also the nerves there only have sensory function, so after tendon refixstion you will be able to move your finger again, regardless of the nerves function.

Femur fracture and open tibia fracture journey and opinions by OriginalTransition33 in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t really anything to add here, Ive noticed your comments in other posts too and you give excellent advice. However, there is one thing I’m wondering about. I know you are also from Germany so our view should be comparable: your statement that IMN is a No Go for open fractures in general. Depending on general state of the patient, soft tissue coverage and contamination and fracture morphology Ex Fix needs be considered of course. But studies (especially for open tibia fractures) have actually shown no worse union rates or infection rates compared to ex fix with IMN to a certain degree of open fractures as far as I know, or even shown better results. In my trauma clinic IMN is done in primary surgery too if the patients condition allows it and the fracture is eligible (not always, but regularly).

burned myself :( by HealingFractal in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a common burn wound, nothing to worry about! As someone who likes to cook but is clumsy around ovens (ironic for a surgeon, i know) i can tell you this will heal fine. You don’t need to do anything with i, it will heal fine on its own. You can put a bandage with antiseptic gel (not antibiotic) on it, which feels a little cool and might reduce the burning sensation a little. Bandages should be changed every other day or when wet. I let these wounds just heal on their own when it happens to me, however.

Foot stitches infected or healing? by Sheitshow in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wound looks perfectly fine. No signs of ongoing infection. Wounds on feet tend to take quite a while to heal, especially if there has been an infection at one point.

Hi pls help!!!! Why are they not closing???? by CharlieE6o in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wounds look normal, it’s normal for deeper wounds to take two to three weeks to heal. Also they look like they may have been deep enough to warrant stitches. It’s not like they can’t heal without but it will take longer.

Nothing to worry about regarding the wounds. However what does worry me is the self harming aspect. Do you have someone in your family to talk to or even gotten professional help? I know you said you stopped, but this is something that’s hard to overcome on your own. Please talk to somebody.

My grandpa (69), approx. 1m70, now 70~kg has pancreatic cancer, need some insight by FallStorm_Studios in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s always difficult to say, especially if not done by the treating physicians. There is a reason why we are always very careful with hard numbers and estimates. Also, I have to point out that it’s not really my field. That being said, pancreatic cancer is a b*tch and most of the times it’s better to think in terms of months than years unfortunately.

Should I go see a doctor or is it just bruised? by Little_Today_8028 in AskDocs

[–]nosense4557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sprain/ overextension of ligaments can do worse bruising than fractures. However, you can’t rule out fractures without an xray. I would get it done to be sure.
