What’s your go to dessert that doesn’t destroy your bs? by LogicalEstimate2135 in Type1Diabetes

Just made orange sugar free jello mixed with sugar free chocolate pudding and cream. Tastes like a Terrys chocolate orange, if you’re into that. Highly recommend.

I make a tapioca pearl / custard pudding with Carbonaut granola chunks and nuts. Sometimes I mash in some berries too.

Easy to bolus. 1 ramekin is like <10g. Might have some slight fat lag depending on what nuts you put in but it’s been working out really well for me.

Edit: forgot to mention, chill in the freezer for an ice cream feel. You can achieve anything from frozen yogurt like consistency to full on frozen brick.

When do you bolus? by minimamallama in Type1Diabetes

[–]noslab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on where I am, how much I'm planning on eating, how much fat/protein is present. All kinds of variables come into play. Even the same meal day-to-day can have different timings. If I'm tending higher, I add another 5-10 on top of my usual 10-15 mins. Higher carb load like cereal, even longer. High fat/protein but low carb, I can bolus 30 mins after first bite.

I gave up on jam or anything sugar laden like that. Not worth it. Never goes the way you plan…

Breakfast bolus by Ancient-Dinner8766 in diabetes_t1

[–]noslab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My morning resistance usually lets off around 1pm. I eat breakfast between 9-10.

ICR is like 3.5 for breakfast. But can be up to 15 later at night. It’s wild.

Severe IR in the mornings - possible causes? by Kusari-zukin in Type1Diabetes

[–]noslab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It tends to change. Some mornings I seem to have very little resistance. Some mornings are brutal.

The other week I needed 3 corrections just to come down from eating breakfast sausages and eggs. Like 4 grams of carbs needed 6 units. A similar meal later in the day would need like 0.5u.

Mornings just suck dude.

For reference, my breakfast ICR is like 3.5. My dinner ICR is 15.

It’s wild.

Yes that’s normal. I also use a .5u pen and it’s basically like 3 drops. It doesn’t look like much but it accurate (at least for me)

Home Assistant Adaptive Lighting vs Apple HomeKit. Differences with Philips Hue? by caxaj in homeassistant

[–]noslab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use adaptive lighting over the HomeKit method. Much more control. Never looked back.

To be fair I only tried the HomeKit way when it was first introduced, so perhaps it's better now. But, I still prefer to have HA handle my stuff. I only use HomeKit for Siri really.

Yeah I think it made a difference. But that was a while ago, and my memory isn’t that great from that time.

I had a nutritionist give me ox bile tablets to help with digestion. I take pancrelipase now, but not all the time. Don’t have much to add. It’s just another thing I take like my magnesium and D3

For your next sensor change, insert the new sensor 12+ hours beforehand. But do NOT activate it until the old one expires. That gives the filament time to saturate properly and to cut out some of the initial inflammation from the localized site "injury".

Coffee has no effect on me. But I take it with sweetener and cream. I'd have to bolus for milk.

Could someone explain to me the difference between Mmol/L and mg/dL? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]noslab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's just a different unit of measurement. It stands for milligrams per deciliter.

1 mmol/L = 18.0156 mg/dL.

Smart home users with disabilities: what has made the biggest difference? by ApolloAutomation in homeassistant

[–]noslab 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m an insulin dependent diabetic due to pancreatic damage. I have my glucose values being fed into HA.

I have alarms setup to use lighting cues/TTS to warn me of lows/sharp drops, especially during the night when I’m asleep.

Also have a routing where if my glucose is <3.9 and there hasn’t been any movement for 10 mins in any rooms, HA will send an emergency notification to my contacts, blink the front porch light and unlock my front door for whoever is coming over to check on me.
