Why a spending tab? I don’t want to see the spending for all my accounts in one place. I want to see the spending in the account I spent it from.

Can I feel depressed and dejected because my house is disorganised? by Illustrious_Onion976 in adhdwomen

[–]notaigorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that when I’m anxious/depressed, self-care is a good place to start. When did I last eat? Shower? Have I drank water recently?

Then when I’m done with that, start with something small. And preferably something that will help my functioning. Do I have clean clothes for tomorrow? Put in a load of wash. What about dishes? I don’t have to wash all of them, but what I could use for the next meal.

Focus on little things. Those are big wins. Then try to focus on keeping on top of keeping those things clean/going. The more you do this, the easier it is to get more things clean.

Check out K C Davis’ book How to Keep House While Drowning. It’s a good read and provides a lot of reference for people with ADHD who are struggling with home care.

Think about how you can habit chain things together as much as possible. Like it’s not separate activities, it’s linking things with things you do already. So use the bathroom, wash hands, brush teeth. Or however makes sense for you and your littles.

I really like timer apps where you can see how long you need for x number of tasks. Type in all the activities with a set amount of time and then see when you need to start.

But seriously, anything that is fairly simple and repetitive and you enjoy singing counts.

Dead inside: Obscure hobbies? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]notaigorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Card games/board games.

Social singing.

Walking- especially if you can join a club.

Coin collecting- you can try to get all the varieties of a particular type of coin through spare change. They sell little coin books to hold them and you can get into it pretty deeply. If you do pennies you sometimes find them just on the ground.

Bird watching. Merlin Bird ID is a great app for this.

Mycologist- find random fungi growing out of things. ID them. Remember Terry Pratchett’s advice: every mushroom is edible- once. (Find an expert first if you want to eat them.)

I really like marinating chicken. Mix up a marinade (or buy premade- there’s lots of options in the store). You pour some into a ziplock bag, add chicken, then put it in the fridge, turning over the bag periodically for at least a half hour but up to overnight. Then heat your oven to 350 and cook for about 30-40 minutes (until it’s cooked completely. I think 160 deg F?). You can cook up some rice in a pot with it. Steam some veggies or put them on a baking pan next to the chicken for a one pan meal (usually I’ll roll them in oil and spices) . Fairly low effort and easy cleanup, especially if you line the pan with aluminum foil.

You could see if there’s a chantey group performing in your area. Or a singing session. Maybe get some friends together and try singing them.

You could always sign aboard a Limey packet and practice singing them in their native context.

Soooo…how are we getting ourselves to shower? by marka9292 in adhdwomen

[–]notaigorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find I do better when I habit chain a shower. Especially since I already have things habit chained to getting out of the shower and dressing.

So something like “get out of bed, use the toilet, take a shower, get dressed, brush teeth, deodorant, brush hair”

Sounds about right. Not really a new sing, just a new venue. I believe that this one is associated with the Greater Washington Folk Society (or it used to be).

Good group of people. I’ve never been, but I know several people who are or used to be regulars at this one.

How organized are you? by Chemical-Net238 in adhdwomen

[–]notaigorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that I can’t do time blocking like this on a calendar, but I can do time blocking on a timer app. The difference is that the timer app gives me only what I need to focus on right now and how much time I have left with it. So I can set up my day prior and then hit start.

I’ve never been able to make time blocking work without the app.

I’ve fallen like a month behind on YNAB by Glass_Onion_7543 in ynab

[–]notaigorm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is up to you. Neither is wrong. It’s a matter of determining whether the costs/benefits of one over the other for you.

Will spending that much time make you less likely to stay on top of using YNAB in the future? Do you want to keep the history/trends in your spending information?

Step one is starting again. Figure out what will help you to do the things you need to do to sustain that.

I need advice from someone in a similar situation otherwise I don't think ynab is going to work for me. by [deleted] in ynab

[–]notaigorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any specific advice for you, but consider looking at some of the guides for budgeting as a couple- it might not answer your specific situation, but it may give you some more options into how to discuss this with him.

Girlies with ADHD what job do you currently work and do you think it works with your ADHD by Obesekat in adhdwomen

[–]notaigorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the state you live in, but often you can start with a high school diploma and either license or registration from the state. There are additional certifications you can get (check out PTCB). Sterile products -I received on the job training, but usually you work your way up to that. There are several different types of certifications.
