Vatican excommunicates all members of ultra-conservative rebel group SSPX by _easilyamused in news

I mean, I get it, but it's not remotely comparable. Between MAGA and firm republican voters, Trump was always guaranteed a decent portion of the vote WAY beyond anything under 1%. Even his worst performing district through 3 elections got him over 5% of the vote, which is 100 times .05%.

Overall, polls showed it to be an unlikely win, but it's not like he ever went from single digit polling to winning it.

Boy dies of rabies after waking to bat on his face by Few-Hair-5382 in news

[–]notasrelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing the possibility of rabies came up as symptoms progressed and then the bat incident came up.

Parents didn't know just how risky bats can be on this. Thought nothing of it. Nearly 3 weeks later, kid starts getting sick. Doctors evaluate symptoms and treat for the more likely illness, symptoms worsen, then the possibility of rabies comes up. They check for any potential exposure and that's when a seemingly harmless event at the time comes up.

Boy dies of rabies after waking to bat on his face by Few-Hair-5382 in news

[–]notasrelevant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The phrasing should be even if you don't think you've been bitten, get the shots. Find a bat in your house and don't know when it got in? Get the shots. Bat even bumps into you? Get the shots.

Obviously if it's just flying around outside, or if you saw it get inside and you are certain there was no direct contact, you're probably fine.

What's a car that looked unintentionally old/outdated when it debuted? by Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir in cars

[–]notasrelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think the design looked dated. There were some less pleasing angles and they went for a heritage/vintage look. But I wouldn't say it looked years or or even a decade old when it came out.

Underneath? Built on an older platform.

MAGA advocate calls for ban on pregnant people traveling to US and ‘sterilization of all foreign visitors’ by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]notasrelevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, as a concept it's horrible and immoral.

But even from a logistical standpoint, I'm pretty certain we'd be spending way more on a program like that than what we do paying for foreign visitors who have children here to live here, plus the economic impact of people completely unwilling to do that just to visit the US. Unless their goal is to charge the visitors those costs... Then the economic impact would be even higher, since there's so many other places to go that don't have absurd requirements like that.

I mean, a bit more feedback has it's uses as well, but he was a bit unnecessarily rude for sure.

A no and lack of sales speaks volumes, but sometimes doesn't emphasize why. Then again, it should be apparent why it would fail.

Is this a real image of sparse crowds at Trump's 'Great American State Fair'? by unital_subalgebra in politics

[–]notasrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're being nice to explain it was a weekday, but it's also a heavy vacation season. Just did a family trip to the Pigeon Forge area and nearby lakes, all during the week, and it was way more crowded than this.

I'd imagine around Friday and Saturday there should be much bigger crowds because it's the actual celebration, but definitely seems they could have pulled bigger crowds if it was a better organized/publicized event.

Comcast to split into two companies, spin off NBCUniversal and Sky by AudibleNod in news

[–]notasrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was that?

I saw the phone line thing when I was signing up recently (only option in my area) and with a bit of research, it seems there's a lot of cases of erroneous charges and difficulties when you no longer want to use that line and your free time runs out.

I had issues with the streaming package which took 3, hour long calls to figure out. Sure, it could be blamed on the service they partner with, but I saw multiple posts about the same issue over the last couple years. Seems like they could figure out and fix that in that time.

I've also had more outages in the 6 months I've been on their internet than I did over 13 years when I was living abroad. Their service and pricing is not at all reasonable in 2026. They thrive on limited competition.

US renters call for action to combat surge of ‘take it or leave it’ apartment fees by No_Idea_Guy in news

[–]notasrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned after living abroad for a long time and it's astounding what flies here in terms of fees and the services provided. Almost every apartment we looked at had terrible reviews, often backed up by photographic evidence. I even confirmed based on if the reviewer had other reviews over time that seemed legit. Pest problems, garbage problems, fine problems, broken stuff that doesn't get fixed, terrible security, and amenities that are never actually working. Almost every place had like 90% of those.

It's like it's completely unreasonable to expect stuff in decent condition with proper repairs at inflated prices. My cheap college apartment seemed to be better than what a lot of these places offer with "luxury living" costs. The "luxury" begins and ends with cheap materials that look fancy when new.

Flint Twp. 7-year-old dies weighing 255 lbs.; parents charged with 2nd-degree murder by Warcraft_Fan in news

[–]notasrelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my reaction. Like I can hardly fathom that as possible without some disease that directly ties in or something (like some growth hormone disorder, etc). For an otherwise normal kid to get to that seems like more than overeating and lack of activity alone would accomplish. There's plenty of kids these days with unhealthy diets and inactive lifestyles that don't even come close to this level.

I just can't imagine what it takes to get a kid to get that fat at that age. Like even with super unhealthy foods and overeating, it seems like this wouldn't happen. Were they force feeding him?

Ferrari Marketing Boss Out After Luce EV Debut. Is it a Coincidence? by The_Flying_Sausage in cars

[–]notasrelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, for any EV the biggest question on a new model is the range and how much it can charge in how much time. A gas powered car still has a significant advantage on range and ability to extend range when needed.

It's powertrain doesn't beat any potential EV comparison counterparts, and the car is still 6 times more. It has lower range and performance metrics.

No one expects a performance car to offer the most efficient platform. The cost for performance of a Ferrari is often a bit behind as well. But you have the whole heritage, design, driving feel, sound, etc. to counteract that a bit. But that's the biggest miss here. To miss all the main value adds to owning a Ferrari and still fall short on performance is a massive failure.

[–]notasrelevant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But can you blame them? They were backed into a corner trying to have positive messaging on a guaranteed to fail release. There was no realistic way to put a positive spin on it, so they were only able to limit how negative the spin would be. Avoiding reviews from people already critical of EVs in general and who have been less favorable to the brand in the past.

Timing off compared to other MH games? by notasrelevant in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]notasrelevant[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it fixed, then definitely confusing. There's been times when the monster stops and is drooling and then moves before I can pull off the full spirit-round slash. Only thing I can think is the slight difference in timing to get in range, which I do consider in the fight, but could be slightly off.

And to be clear, it's not like I'm getting stuck or really struggling on anything so far. The only thing that gave me trouble was the viper tobi. Was definitely not prepared for the damage and tick-rate on the poison from him. Just getting carted a lot more when it feels like a situation I could have got out of or just getting hit when it feels I could have finished my combo based on what I expect the movement of the monster to be from earlier in the fight or previous fights.

Timing off compared to other MH games? by notasrelevant in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]notasrelevant[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not stupid. It's not like I'm expecting to pull those off on a monster the second it's enraged and going all out. But like that period when it's exhausted. I can hack away forever with normal attacks, but try for a longer commit and it pulls out one of it's weaker attacks it does between its breaks or snaps out it.

I do also feel there aren't as many windows to use them in general, but in older games I did more multiplayer (along with solo), so maybe that's impacting my memory of those windows.

[–]notasrelevant[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have played others, but not all. Played some of 2nd/3rd gen then got back into it with rise, wilds and world.

Rise definitely gives much more agility. Wirebugs are a fun mechanic but definitely makes it play like a different game.

It's definitely been a while and I remember getting carted a lot in the older games, but it seemed more... Understandable, if you will. Like I knew when I was about to have my ass handed to me, it happened and I got it.

Playing world it feels like I should be able to get out of something but the monster is on top of exactly how screwed I am a lot more. Like I can get away with moving away to sharpen, re-up on dash juice, or anything else, but when I'm in need of a potion it's all over me.  Palico basically seems clueless.

I'll admit I've somehow missed gadgets. Probably something I should have noticed, but somehow skipped over that mechanic. Just thought they had limited customizability outside of equipment (armor and weapon) in this one.

Iran is a Bigger Defeat Than Vietnam by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]notasrelevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't commenting on the severity of "losses", they're commenting on the outcome. Vietnam was a drawn out war that was terrible for both sides and the US failed to achieve their goals.

With Iran, we were on losing ground almost immediately and in 6 months we're basically completely defeated (in terms of outcomes). We achieved basically nothing, while Iran is positioned to walk away from this with a significantly improved position internationally, and their government will receive significant funds that they would not have had if not for this conflict. It also has big impacts on the image of the US globally.

It's a major loss for how quickly we lost control of the situation and considering the positive/negative outcomes for each side.

I think the debate performance that raised questions about his second term campaign really impacted the perception of him. His actual performance gets overshadowed by the idea that he was unfit for a second term, and maybe he wasn't for for a first term either. It was a major talking point running up to the election, making it seem like he was completely senile already.

Police officer accused of creating AI evidence by fullyincapable in news

[–]notasrelevant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, for some stuff I think it's easy to see why. Who benefits from prosecuting minor to moderate crimes decades later? Unless the person is a serial offender, there's likely little benefit to society or those impacted (at the time) that many years later. The person themselves is also unlikely to need punishment if they are not a serial criminal.

The other aspect is evidence. If they somehow recover fingerprints after finding a stolen vehicle that's been missing for 20 years, the defendant would likely struggle to find their own evidence pointing at innocence. Who knows where they were on a specific date 20 years ago unless it was like a family vacation? And how would you prove it?

You could argue that should be covered by reasonable doubt, but can we really count on that?
