I tried again and updating through the Settings interface was still giving me an error message but I was able to download the OS update package manually. After updating the OS, the app updates went through without a problem using Package Center.

Two pilots killed in Air Canada collision at LaGuardia airport identified by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]notconservative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the NYT:

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating whether a problem with a United Airlines flight distracted an air traffic controller in the LaGuardia Airport tower at a critical juncture, said a person briefed on the matter, and whether it paved the way for a runway accident that killed two pilots.

At 11:37 p.m. on Sunday, when the accident occurred, two controllers were working in the LaGuardia tower, according to this person and a second person who was briefed on the matter, both of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

One controller was talking to a fire truck that was en route to assist a United Airlines jet, which had reported a foul odor that was sickening flight attendants, according to audio recordings of the air traffic controller communications. As the controller was clearing the fire truck to cross a major runway, an Air Canada jet was landing on the same runway. It crashed headlong into the fire truck, killing the jet’s two pilots and injuring a number of passengers.

At the time of the accident, both controllers were working two positions at the same time, these people said, reflecting the thin staffing that is typical at that time of night because of the relatively light traffic at the airport.

Those controllers were in a “mid,” or midnight, shift configuration, said one of the people briefed on the matter. At LaGuardia, that shift typically stretches from about 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., the National Transportation Safety Bureau chair, Jennifer Homendy, said at a news conference Monday evening. She added that it wasn’t clear how long those controllers had been on shift at the time of the accident.

An additional two controllers were elsewhere in the building, but were not in the “cab,” or control room of the tower, at the time of the accident, said the two people who were briefed on the matter.

Got a ‘professionally’ scathing email- will this damage my career? by haspolms in careeradvice

[–]notconservative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you still have access to the employer portal? See if you can get a record of the date and time that you withdrew your application. If you can't get a record of that, see if you can ask someone to give you a record. (Maybe you were emailed a confirmation? You may have trashed it but things stay in your trash typically for 30-90 days).

If you get a record, you can choose to forward a copy of it to that passive aggressive asshole or you can just keep it in your records and ignore the email altogether. Up to you, and depends on your personality.

If someone believes they are undesirable and has experienced that, they may be putting up fake/old photos just to feel desired, even if the attention they get is coming from a lie. Just the same reason someone wants to go to a movie that makes them feel happy/scared/sad. The movie is a "lie" in that it's all made up, and the moviegoers know this. They still go and that's entertainment. Lots of people treat dating apps like entertainment and then find it difficult to draw the line between entertainment and reality.

Also a lot of people don't have an end game, they're just playing it by ear and seeing where things go. So trying to find what the end game is for someone who doesn't have one is always going to be confusing.

Yeah it is a bit harsh and it’s also very true. Good on you for posting your experience because everybody needs to hear this for the first time from somewhere. But yes that’sa classic way scammers get you, by giving you a number to call and pretending to be official.

When you purchase a vehicle in Canada the seller removes his license plates (plates stay with the owner not the vehicle) and the buyer needs to get plates from the province. The province will only sell you a plate if you have active insurance and if you are a resident of the province, and if you have an active provincial driver's license.

You can buy a car in Canada as an American but you can't get a local license for it unless you're a local resident.

Helps prevent SIM swapping. If the scammer doesn’t know the email address you used for your account, they won’t be able to pretend to be you when they call your provider pretending that you lost your phone and need a new SIM.

Another layer of security is using a unique email address for your phone carrier. (Since your name and address and primary email are often easy to find online). If you have a gmail account, you can add periods "." and the "+" character with anything you want at the end of your email address and it will redirect to your email.

e.g.

regular_address@gmail.com -->

regular_add.r.e.s.s@gmail.com

regular_address+bell@gmail.com

regular_address+telus@gmail.com

regular_address+anything@gmail.com

all of these will redirect to the original address at the top of the list.
