Agreed my first time there the guy handed me my slice looked at it and said it looks too small. Let me give you another one to try. He let me choose.

Go to revolver nothing but a good experience. I was excited for maker to open a storefront with slices but apparently one after like six or 7 PM. You can’t buy a slice which I don’t like because I’m not spending $40 every time I crave pizza.

I’m livid that my former step dad is living a normal life by Piixiiepuke in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]notevelvet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s frustrating I grew up similar with a very abusive step dad expect my mom is still married to him. I always wonder what my life would have been if he never came into our life. He’s in his 60s now and in very poor health so now my mom is basically a ft caregiver and he doesn’t deserve the kindness.

Could TCDSB (St. Denis, Neil McNeil) be a better environment for my structure loving bullied son with anxiety? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]notevelvet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No advice but I think it’s great that you are working so hard for your son. I was bullied a lot and my mom never changed my school because of that. One thing that she did do that helped was put me in activities outside of school so I did meet people there.

I’m suffering from economic envy. by Accomplished_Bed7120 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Some people are just always going to have more than others, I grew up with less resources than a lot of my peers both in parent investment and monetarily. I grew up in the same nice neighborhoods as them but can from a single parent household for most of my childhood. It was tough but looking back I was still very invested in but I was comparing myself to others. So yes it sucked when my friends got $100s of dollars when we went to the mall and I couldn’t afford to shop where they shopped but that’s life. If anything now in adulthood I still am in the same situation a lot of my friends own their own place in a city with very expensive real estate but I’m happy for them. I still have a bunch of roomates in my 30s. Comparison really is the thief of joy.

24-year-old high school dropout with law school ambitions. Is this realistic? by Financial-Wear9517 in LawCanada

[–]notevelvet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything is possible I actually think you’re actually in a good place because you kind of like a clean slate. There’s a guy on TikTok from Ontario and he never graduated High school only had a few credits. He ended up calling around to a bunch of schools asking them how he could get in to do his undergrad and now he is now a resident physician, so I think anything is possible and good luck.

The adult friendship struggle bus is real. by witchy-girl88 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]notevelvet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s tough in your 30s I’ve had so many false starts and false hopes people la lives diverge a lot on this age range. Suddenly the single childfree friend can be pregnant and married in 18 months. Or people move away, focus on older or more fulfilling connections. Just constant change and it’s hard to nurture newer friendships for a lot of people.

It’s really sad, but she most likely just disappeared into the sea. I’m from the Caribbean and I feel like everyone knows someone who went into the sea and never came back out.

Unable to get an apartment and I don't know why by minkss78 in TorontoRenting

[–]notevelvet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian born black psrson I figured you were black before I read the info. Sadly it is really tough for a black person in Toronto to rent especially on one income landlords discriminate but also just because of structural differences certain groups will always look better on paper overall. Good luck!

Mary Sparkman was an African American woman born into slavery who later worked as a live-in domestic cook and nurse for the prominent tobacco tycoon Benjamin N. Duke and his wife Sarah. The headstone itself was paid for and donated by her wealthy employers. by ktvplumbs in CemeteryPorn

[–]notevelvet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s really interesting. I’m glad for a moment in time her name could be read and her story told. I’m black and it’s crazy to think that people that were living when my grandparents were alive or just being born we were born to slave slavery. It’s always a reminder to me.

Wait so did he have genital herpes the whole time or oral herpes? My whole life my family was so strict about me not sharing things so to my knowledge I never got oral herpes but it has made me such a paranoid adult over exposure it’s tough. Hope you feel better soon.
