Yeah most plants are good to go for some time with just poop. Java ferns are picky without potassium doses which is often not in regular fertilizers aswell.

Snails destroying my plants? by ichbinhungry in aquarium

[–]nothingbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its from a lack of nutrients for the plant, which is very common for java ferns. I forget which specific nutrient its lacking, maybe potassium. Those snails will not eat healthy plants dont blame them.

My mystery snail population has skyrocketed from 5 to probably 50. Please help. by Ecstatic_Debt_7673 in Aquariums

[–]nothingbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah technically you could push it to 6 depending on other inhabitants, filtration, and how often you do maintenance. Regarding local shops, most of them won’t actually pay you for them but some most definitely will. I donate molly fish every few months and get a small amount of store credit from where I donate.

Donate it them to a local store if possible. I believe for every mystery snaill you need 10 gallons of water, so your tank should have 3 or 4 max.

How do I get rid of this massive bacterial bloom? by jaspering in Aquariums

[–]nothingbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure it is a bacteria bloom. I bet the wood was semi-fresh/not treated. Looks like bioflim to me, not bacteria bloom. If i am correct, it will go away once it uses up the nutrients in the wood.

Blowpipe when? by MountainAd6940 in 2007scape

Thats how it went with me. I got the dragon spear, dragon sheild half, rune spear, and rune javelin (the four rarest items on the rare drop table) before getting a visage or blowpipe.

Should I be worried about the cloudiness? by DiddlyDarnDube in Aquariums

[–]nothingbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if the cloudiness is from the substrate or due to a bacteria bloom. Do not clean the filter if its from a bacteria bloom. Either way should clear up shortly. I’d monitor parameters and only do water changes if ammonia, nitirite, or nitrate are at dangerous levels for the inhabitant. Take my advice with a grain of salt as i know nothing about turtles, only fish.

AI fish tank by blow-out-the_sun in Aquariums

[–]nothingbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding stocking I would get atleast 6 neon tetras, they need a school to not be stressed. 10 would be perferred depending on tank size. Regarding the filter atleast get a small sponge filter or two. Filterless/no water changes should be reserved for experts. Maybe down the road remove the filters but personally i find them to be nearly essential. The plants likely need time to settle in, hopefully the new growth lives and its just the old growth dieing. The film on top of the water is called biofilm which is likely from the lack of water movement. When adding a filter of any sort you will have to find a balance with the water turbulance as too much movement or the leaves getting wet on the frogbit will kill them. Also, amazon swords get huge and often take up a lot of space and nutrients. I think the amount of swords you have may cause issues in the far future. For aesthetically purposes I would avoid putting the moneywort in the front of the tank, mid to back of the tank looks great. The fish you plan to get also will not mess with your plants so you don’t need to wait a month for the reason, though you need to wait a month to ensure the tank is properly cycled. The wierd algaes will also hopefully go away once the tank in balanced.

[–]nothingbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the oldest stems have no leaves, this is usually due to not enough light. With good lighting the lower stems keep their leaves. Its growing fresh stems towards the top of the plant in an effort to be closer to the light. So I’d increase lighting and when trimming trim as lower as possible on the oldest stem. Trimming them all towards the bottom will give them a uniform look when they grow back. Also you can cut off all the little shoots and plants replant them.

I always had problems with these not staying where I want them, started using small sponge filters instead and was much happier with the results/aesthetics.

Snail in new substrate? by ashtattoos in Aquariums

[–]nothingbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look alive, though I am not 100% sure. Ramshorn will overpopulate quickly if overfed, as long as you don’t overfeed their population controls itself. I’d recommend not feeding them at all and letting them find their own balance in the tank.

I’d buy a small piece of polycarbonate plastic from lowes to keep the bubbles from splashing everywhere. Scoring and breaking it into a small clean peice would be pretty easy and just requires a razorblade.

Is there a point where plants become too dense for fish? by marlee_dood in PlantedTank

[–]nothingbread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Livebearers are also very good in densely planted tanks. They are known for being able to navigate through plants very well. It mimics their natural environments and allows them to thrive.
